Fans were surprised and saddened to hear that Tim Miller had decided not to helm the sequel to Deadpool after doing such a great job on the first movie. We've been led to believe that the main reason for the departure had to do with creative differences between Miller and star/producer Ryan Reynolds, and in a new interview the actor offers his first comments on the matter. “All I can really add is that I’m sad to see him off the film,” Reynolds addmitted to GQ. “Tim’s brilliant and nobody worked harder on Deadpool than he did.”

It's a very diplomatic response, but some of Reynolds' comments elsewhere in the interview definitely suggest that the pair clashed over what they felt was the right way to handle the character.

I know when I need to exert control, and I know when I need to let go of it. I’m not gonna go and sit with Tim Miller and say, ‘The visual effects of Deadpool need to be done this way.’ The man is a visual-effects wizard. But there are character and tone things that I know really well. And I’ve also been with this thing the longest out of anybody, aside from the guys that wrote the comics. Eleven years I’ve been trying to get this Sisyphus rock up the hill, and it kept rolling back on top of me. So I’m gonna be all the [frick] over it from the moment it starts to the moment it finishes.

Reynolds also reveals that he clashed with Fox over their treatment of The Merc with a Mouth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and obviously they won out on that occasion - so it's not surprising that he's now sticking to his guns. Let's just hope a suitable replacement for Miller comes on board.

Ryan Reynolds interviewed by his "twin" Gordon Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds, all round good guy. Also gave us an awesome Deadpool, and was the best character in blade 3.

I think the internet would explode, well, at least this site would, if Tim Miller announced that he was set to direct a standalone Deathstroke film for the DCEU.

Deadpool could totally comment on this whole thing in the movie. Though that might be too much of a dick move.
