Box office projections for Dumbo this weekend are relatively modest but not every live-action adaptation of Disney's classic cartoons is going to be a hit. After all, while The Lion King will almost certainly be a hit, what about Aladdin? There's no reason to think it can't be something special but Guy Ritchie being at the helm obviously has a lot of people fairly worried.

Throw in the controversy surrounding Will Smith's CGI Genie and it's hard to escape the feeling that the movie is either going to be a lot of fun or a complete disappointment for longtime fans.

Time will tell on that front but Disney has today released a series of character posters putting the spotlight on Aladdin (Mena Massoud), Jasmine (Naomi Scott), Genie (Will Smith), and Jafar (Marwan Kenzari). They're pretty cool and the best thing about them may be the fact we get our best look yet at CGI creations Abu, Iagu, and Rajah.

I'm really hoping Mulan doesn't look like this movie, because that's one I'm actually looking forward too (besides The Lion King).

When I look at clips and pics of this movie, it doesn't feel transportive. I know it's a fantasy tale, but I don't feel as if I'm experiencing it. Everything feels so fake, like people don't actually live there. The overly styled and pristine costuming and the perfect looking sets don't feel immersive at all.

@DnA - Out of all the already released and upcoming remakes Mulan and The Lion King are the ones I'm actually somewhat invested in. I was curious about Aladdin, but those first and second impressions didn't particularly impress me.

Jafar really strikes me like a proper good fellow. That's not supposed to happen right?

This looks really terrible. I’ll probably just watch it on whatever streaming platform it launches on.
