Earlier this week, it was revealed that Wonder Woman 1984 will arrive in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day. It could be a one-off or a sign of things to come, but the release window between when movies arrive on the big screen and PVOD has already been shortened for some studios, so it seems clear that there will be some big changes post-pandemic.
While it was reported yesterday that there are currently no plans for blockbusters like Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to head straight to Disney+, it appears the studio is considering making the streaming service a home for its upcoming live-action Disney adaptations.
Deadline reports that the studio is currently mulling over whether to send the likes of Cruella, Pinocchio, and Peter Pan and Wendy straight to Disney+. The original plan was for them to receive theatrical releases, but given how things have changed, they could become streaming service exclusives; that's where the money is now, after all.
It's not specified whether these movies would be included in the subscription fee or on "Premier Access."
Many theaters have been forced to close their doors, and while business may eventually get back to normal, a greater focus will likely be placed on streaming moving forward (especially as Disney+ subscriptions have gone through the roof since the pandemic started earlier this year).
