Before Angelina Jolie officially joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sersi is The Eternals, the Academy Award-winning actress will return as Maleficent in Disney's upcoming sequel, Mistress of Evil.

The first teaser trailer that hit back in May wasn't particularly plot-focused, but Disney has now released a full trailer which gives is a much better idea of what to expect from the sequel, as Jolie's titular sorceresses wages a war in an effort to stop Aurora (Elle Fanning) marrying the prince (Harris Dickinson).

The footage also provides our first glimpse of Chiwetel Ejiofor's character, and it looks like the Doctor Strange actor is playing another fairy.

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after “Maleficent,” in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora. The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within

Along with Jolie and Fanning, returning cast members include Sam Riley as Diaval, Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass, Juno Temple as Thistlewit, and Lesley Manville as Flittle. They'll be joined by new additions Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay and Harrison Dickinson.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is set to hit theaters on October 18, 2019.

Was Maleficent remembered enough to justify a sequel almost 6 years later? Also, Chiwetel Ejiofor looks so damn goofy in this haha

@tmp3 - $760mil worldwide on a $180mil budget, and it's Jolie's pet project. So.... yes.

This seems like a story that could really stand to be simplified some.

@batman001 - TBH, she became a villain in the original Disney movie because she didn't get invited to a christening.

(But then again that was a big no-no back then.)

@Vanillain - yeah but it's not that big of a deal now tho and it still doesn't take away from the fact that she was scary as well here tho she just seems petty

Really can't stand Disney's treatment of these characters and this story. It wasn't enough you raped them five years ago, you've gotta rape em again.

Is Disney contracted to make at least one garbage movie per year?

@Battabing - Not sure if you're agreeing with me or not. Dumbo and Aladdin are critical failures, but Toy Story got excellent reviews.
