Variety reported late last week that Jenn Murray has joined the cast of Disney's upcoming Maleficent sequel. Details on her role remain under wraps for now.

Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie (Kung Fu Panda 3) and Elle Fanning (Mary Shelley) return to star as the titular character and Aurora, respectively, with an all-new supporting cast that recently added Michelle Pfeiffer (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).

Production is expected to begin later this summer. Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is directing with a script from Jez Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow) and Linda Woolverton (The Lion King). Micah Fitzerman-Blue (Transparent) and Noah Harpster (Transparent) penned the most recent draft.

Murray is best known for her role as Chastity Barebone in Warner Bros.' Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and her recent credits also include Love & Friendship and Brooklyn.

Not really looking forward to this sequel, unfortunately. IMO, The Jungle Book has been the only good live-action Disney remake so far.

Alice in Wonderland (2010) - Okay, I guess
Maleficent (2014) - Mediocre
Cinderella (2015) - Mediocre
The Jungle Book (2016) - Pretty Good
Beauty & the Beast (2016) - Just Good

In production, still to be released:
Christopher Robin - 8/3/2018
Mary Poppins Returns - 12/25/2018
Dumbo - 3/29/2019
Aladdin - 5/24/2019
The Lion King - 7/19/2019
Mulan - 3/27/2020

Announced, but still in early stages of production (if at all):
The Jungle Book Sequel - No release date
The Sword in the Stone - No release date
Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs - No release date
Prince Charming (Snow White) - No release date
Cruella (101 Dalmatians) - No release date (Emma Stone attached to star)
Peter Pan - No release date
Pinocchio - No release date
Little Mermaid - No release date (Lin-Manuel Miranda writing)
Lady & the Tramp - No release date
James and the Giant Peach - No release date
Chip n' Dale - No release date
Chernabog (from Fantasia) - No release date

That's a lot of f.ucking films - and I bet I missed at least one.

@L0RDbuckethead - Can Alice in Wonderland and Dumbo even be considered "remakes"? They have barely anything in common with the animated films, AiW felt like and Dumbo sounds like alternative versions of the books just made by the same studio. Maleficent and Cruella aren't really remakes either.

When it comes to other films, I'm really excited about Little Mermaid. I would love to see Henry Cavill as Prince Eric.

@Pantherpool - I guess they're not remakes per se, but they're all apart of these string of live-action films that Disney is doing based on their old animated classics.

Calling them 'alternative takes on the classic story' would be appropriate.

@L0RDbuckethead - Damn, and people get after Warner Bros. for greenlighting with no plan. I mean Warner/DC had a plan and then fired the one who made it, so yeah. They continue to be the more incompetent studio, but still. How many of these modern fairy tale re-imaginings are actually going to get made?

@L0RDbuckethead - Maleficent was flat out terrible. I actually really like Cinderella. While I had a problem with Lady Tremaine being too sympathetic, I thought the relationship between Cinderella and Prince Kit was far more thought out than it was in the original film adaptation.

@Pantherpool - Everything Tim Burton adapts becomes strictly his. I can't really think of an exception. I'm wondering if he'll focus the Dumbo movie on the Pink Elephants, or if he can make that scene even more disturbing. Lol.

@SisterSunday52 - "or if he can make that scene even more disturbing"

I'm sure he can... No doubt about that.

@marvel72 - Wouldn't surprise me, honestly.

@SisterSunday52 - Well, I actually have faith pretty much all of these will be made, except Chip n Dale, Chernabog and (maybe) Lady & the Tramp. Prince Charming will obviously be a no-go if Snow White is received poorly too. These are all quite a few years out from being made though - it'll be awhile.

Warner Bros / DC on the other hand:

Teen Titans GO! to the Movies - 7/27/18
Aquaman - 12/21/18
Shazam - 4/5/19
Wonder Woman 2 - 11/1/19
Suicide Squad 2 - sometime in 2019
The Flash[point] (Daley/Goldstein) - sometime in 2020*

The Batman (Reeves) - no release date
Justice League Sequel - no release date
Cyborg - no release date
Green Lantern Corps. (Goyer/Rhodes) - no release date
Man of Steel 2 - no release date
Batgirl (Hodson) - no release date
Gotham City Sirens (Ayer?) - no release date
Birds of Prey (Cathy Yan) - no release date
Harley Quinn & the Joker (Ficarra/Requa) - no release date
Alt. Joker Origin (Phillips/Scorsese) - no release date
Justice League Dark - no release date
Nightwing (Chris McKay) - no release date
Black Adam (Adam Sztykiel) - no release date
New Gods (Ava DuVernay) - no release date
Blackhawk (Spielberg rumored) - no release date
Deathstroke (Gareth Evans rumored) - no release date
Lobo (Michael Bay rumored) - no release date
Booster Gold / Blue Beetle (Berlanti) - no release date

And most of these films above are just hypothetical at this point.

Why is this a thing?
SisterSunday52
SisterSunday52 - 5/20/2018, 12:37 PM
@kRAVENklaw - I have no clue. They ruined Maleficent with the first one, and suckered a bunch of people into thinking they hadn't with the trailer. We're wise to their scheme now. This film is going to bomb hardcore.

Aren't they doing the same thing to Cruella?
L0RDbuckethead
L0RDbuckethead - 5/20/2018, 3:33 PM
@kRAVENklaw - Yes, and as of a few months ago, Emma Stone was still attached to star. In fact, it's rumored to be a period-piece set in the late 70s.

Okay, so... Lemme get this straight...
They want us to relate and sympathize with a psychotic woman that wants to kill puppies and make a coat from their fur?
L0RDbuckethead
L0RDbuckethead - 5/20/2018, 5:48 PM
@kRAVENklaw - That's the Disney way.

kRAVENklaw

@L0RDbuckethead -
I can see it now.
Like how the king was the villain in Maleficent, Roger will be an abusie pet owner, and now, Cruella doesn't want to skin the puppies, she simply wants to protect them from Roger.

As great as the cast is, I'll probably pass on this. The first one was meh and it doesn't feel like the story can go anywhere worth exploring. I'm more excited for another POTC than this to be honest (if they do make one, I think Will should be the main character and basically I would like the Turner family to be the focus; unless they come up with something really interesting for Jack).
NatchiosElektra

Disney will NEVER top what they did with Enchanted, and this friends, it's a FACT! lol. Maleficent was horrible, Cinderella was meh (minus the dress... THAT was heaven made) and B&TB was good.
