Awhile back, Deadline had confirmed that Sam Raimi would be the director for the Wizard of OZ prequel.

Speaking with Collider on the red carpet of the Saturn Awards, Raimi was quoted saying, "I’m not really committed to ‘Oz’. We’re gonna wait and see how that all goes. I did read it, I love the script, it’s a great project. It’s something I’d like to become involved with."

Well, there's still a chance he will direct.

seriously why are we making sequels or prequels based off of classic novels. Peter Pan= Hook, Alice in Wonderland= Burton Version, And now this...Do we really need a film that shows his origin...its never supposed to be explained, he was a man who traveled to Oz from our world too, we don't need to know how he became the wizard....this is as bad as bad remakes. Let sleeping dogs lay as they say. Just stick with the classic version, its timeless and a wonder to see no matter what age

@BlackAirsAki87--There were numeroous OZ books. The Wizard of Oz was not the first in the series. And the Judy Garland version of the Wizard of OZ film was not the first, just the most popular. And it was a terrible adaptation of the book.

They should get Del Toro to direct this. Raimi couldn't do this justice.

@CBA....I do know that the OZ series was based off a bunch of books and silent film adaptations long before the Garland version. Also, its not a terrible adaptation...you have to realize for its TIME, they had huge limitations on effects and resources. They fused a few of the stories into one enjoyable film. Remaking it would be a crime
