DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Director Sam Raimi Reveals Whether He's Game For SPIDER-MAN 4

Tobey Maguire returned as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi has revealed whether he's opening to returning to helm Spider-Man 4...

Spider-Man: No Way Home did the impossible by bringing Tobey Maguire back as Peter Parker. The actor has had nothing but good things to say about his brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while many fans have campaigned to #MakeTASM3 happen, there are plenty of people out there who would prefer to pick up with Maguire's web-slinger in Spider-Man 4

With original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi at the helm of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the hope is that the hero could swing into the sequel for a surprise cameo.

Talking to Fandango, the filmmaker didn't comment on that, but was asked if there's a chance he and Maguire could team up for more Spider-Man movies. "I've come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don't really have a story or a plan."

"I don't know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don't know what their thoughts are about that. I haven't really pursued that," he continued. "But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn't a Spider-Man movie, I'd love to work with Tobey again, in a different role."

As for whether he'd be open to telling more stories in the MCU, Raimi responded, "Absolutely. It's like the world's best toy box to be able to play at Marvel. I'd love to come back and tell another tale, especially with the great management they've got there." Clearly, he enjoyed his Marvel Studios experience...and probably quite a bit more than his time working with Sony on Spider-Man 3!

Spider-Man 4 does seem unlikely, but if Maguire doesn't show up as Spider-Man in the Doctor Strange sequel, it would be a real missed opportunity. Ultimately, it could boil down to whether Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures were able to come to an agreement that would allow a cameo like that to happen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on May 6.

I think i'd prefer we stick with Holland's spidey. Tobey got a great send off and got "the closure" he needed in NWH. I wouldnt mind a Tobey cameo in Dr Strange MoM but i prefer we keep the Holland SPidey train rolling

I would like to see Spider-Man 4, with him being older, married, maybe a kid. But, I don’t think it would be a Marvel Studios movie. I think it would be more likely that Sony would make it, and then he’d have to work with Sony again…

@Waddles - Combine that with the Clone Saga. MayDay Parker may suspect that his father is an impostor and also Raimi can create a great Kaine.

@Waddles - That would be a really awesome Spider-Man 4! And even though it’d be a SPUMC movie, if Raime were attached and they actually get a good writer, I’d have more condition it. Hell, bring back David Koepp to write it! Who would you want to see as a villain(s)?

@Waddles - Hobgoblin would be cool, as it would bookend Green Goblin from SM1. Combine that with @repian idea for Kaine and being an imposter Peter, and I think we have a winner!

@HeavyMetal4Life - I remember a select couple of individuals who claimed Raimi would never work with Marvel Studios because of lack of freedom. Seems just like majority of the other MCU directors (even Derrickson) Marvel Studios is a well oiled machine and a pleasure to work with.

I’d love to see Spider-Man 4 if for nothing else but to see all Raimi’s seeds from the earlier movies pay off like Dr Connors and the Theatre usher.

Sony has zero reason to allow Disney to let Tobey cameo as spidey... They're saving him for themselves at some point

If it happens I want him to maintain full creative control including getting the decision on the final cut. Tobey should have the same stipulations that Raimi keeps these right to avoid the blatant studio involvement we see in Spider-Man 3, Morbius, ASM2 and the Venoms

"if Maguire doesn't show up as Spider-Man in the Doctor Strange sequel, it would be a real missed opportunity"

I really don't get people pushing for this. He was just in No Way Home where it made sense, having him show up in a Doctor Strange movie which already seems pretty packed just because Raimi is directing would just lessen the impact he had in NHW. It's like people prefer an endless parade of cameos over a movie with a cohesive story and developed characters.

Nah, his story was over 15 years ago, and NWH was pretty careful on not saying much, he managed to work things out with MJ, that's it.
Also, Disney needs Sony's permision to put Spiderman (any version of Spiderman) in the movie...however, the last deal they made was for one solo movie (NWH) and one team-up movie...could it be this one?

If this movie works (which I have absolute no idea if it will), Sam could stick around for more Dr Strange movies.

@AzorAhai - That was in one story that is not even canon, as far as I know.

I want a Raimi-verse resurrection.

I wonder if a Spiderman (or Ben Reily, Mayday, 2099) type series would ever be in the cards. I'd really love to see Spiderman as a series interacting with the street level heroes and lower tier villains.
