After Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced us to the concept of the Multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now looks set to explore it in a truly mind-bending manner. We're anticipating seeing a lot of Variants in the sequel, and a new promo poster highlights some of Stephen Strange's doppelgängers.
The first Strange, however, does appear to be the MCU's (former) Sorcerer Supreme. Where things get really interesting is with the other two; in yellow, we see what appears to be What If...?'s Doctor Strange Supreme. Then, in green, there's a character we know to be "Defender Strange."
What role they'll play in the sequel remains to be seen, but Strange meeting both his villainous counterpart and one who is potentially better than him (possibly the leader of the Defenders in his reality) could open his eyes to how different his life would be with just a few alternate choices.
We're anticipating a new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer being released during the Super Bowl this weekend, so fingers crossed we get to see more Variants in action.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.
The movie's cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.
