DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Writer Says A Deadpool Cameo Was "Talked About"

Though it doesn't sound like the idea made it very far, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has now confirmed that a Deadpool cameo was indeed discussed...

During the buildup to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' release, multiple rumors relating to various cameos did the rounds. Some were believable (and proved to be accurate), others not so much, but one of the more outlandish theories actually gained traction thanks to the movie's first teaser poster.

Fans became convinced that they spotted Deadpool in one of the glass shards, and this gave way to some of the usual suspects claiming that The Merc With a Mouth was indeed set to make his MCU debut in Sam Raimi's sequel.

Of course, ol' Wade never showed his ugly mug in the movie, but writer Michael Waldron has now confirmed that the idea was discussed.

"Yeah, we talked about it," Waldron admitted when asked about the rumor during an interview with ComicBook.com "I think we talked about everything in this movie. So, [it] would've been crazy to not raise that, but it ultimately didn't feel like... It just didn't feel the right place. But yeah, of course we talked about it."

In The Multiverse of Madness did feature a few surprise cameos, but didn't turn out to be the full-on exploration of alternate MCU realities many fans were expecting, so, in hindsight, an appearance from Deadpool probably would have felt a little forced.

Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth will be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool 3, but we still have no idea how that's going to be accomplished.

Definitely a missed opportunity. They could have done a version of GOTG2's The Watchers scene, where they have different cameos such as Deadpool as Strange and Chavez moved through the multiverse.

@HeavyMetal4Life - that's what I thought was going to happen tbh

Just a quick shot doing what he does with his unicorn would have killed. Marvel holds themselves back so much a lot of times.

I really believed that was gonna be the last post credits scene lol but Bruce Campbell was great, at least that scene and Wanda looking at the audience after taking over of her other self body is giving us hints that MCU is warming up to the whole breaking the 4th wall deal, and knowing that She Hulk is coming i'm looking to more 4th wall breaking from the MCU.

oddly enough I don't think i would've fit considering how dark the movie was.

@Spidey91 - The suppoused cameo with him looking at the camera joking about how "they killed Patrick Stewart three times" sounded funny, but...nope.

Remember when everybody saw the edge of a blurry Deadpool eye in one of the broken shards on a poster and automatically said he was in it… even after Ryan Reynolds said “No. I’m not in it”. Ahhhh the good ole days. Lol

Further reinforcing the idea that Multiverse of Madness is a Doctor Strange story “above all else,” Waldron said he watched the first episode in the franchise multiple times.

LMAO.
