USA Today has shared a bunch of new stills from upcoming releases as part of their must-see movies of 2022 preview, and among them is a new promo image for Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The official still finds Wong (Benedict Wong) in a precarious situation, as the MCU's new Sorcerer Supreme appears to be restrained by some unknown force. A slightly different version of this shot could be glimpsed in the recently released trailer, but this zoomed-out angle might just reveal an intriguing new detail.
Wong's wrists are being held in place by some sort of magical energy bands, and they look quite similar to the powers manifested by The Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). This could be a coincidence, of course, but if Wanda is indeed responsible, it would seem to confirm that the character will take on a villainous role in the Doctor Strange sequel.
The trailer showed the Master of the Mystic Arts (Benedict Cumberbatch) paying a visit to Wanda to ask for her help in dealing with the repercussions of tampering with the Multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and while she seemed to be on board, there are rumors that the Scarlet Witch will ultimately succumb to the corruption of the Darkhold and betray her fellow Avenger.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also stars Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer (and possibly Clea), Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, and Xochitl Gomez as the debuting America Chavezis, and is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
