ETERNALS: Another Of The Movie's Heroes Rumored To Make MCU Return This Year - Possible SPOILERS

We've already heard some pretty big rumours about future plans for some of Eternals' immortals, but a new report suggests at least one of them will return to the MCU this summer to shoot a mystery role...

Eternals added a lot of new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (some would say too many), but it sounds like we'll be seeing some of them again sooner rather than later. There have already been rumblings that Richard Madden's Ikaris will return, but he's not the only deceased Eternal who's supposedly going to show up in scenes presumably set in this shared world's past.

There's a rumour doing the rounds (that seemingly originated on a website called Allkpop) alleging that Don Lee will return to the U.S. this summer to shoot scenes as Gilgamesh.

It's unclear what project this would be for, and Marvel Studios has so many TV shows and movies in various stages of development right now that it's impossible to even hazard a guess. In Eternals, we saw Gilgamesh die at the hands of a Deviant to protect Thena; he'd spent thousands of years watching over her after she started feeling the effects of Mahd Wy'ry, so we're betting this will be a flashback.

While Eternals ended on a major cliffhanger setting the stage for a sequel, Marvel Studios now has the opportunity to revisit these characters by expanding on their respective roles in the MCU's history. That's a compelling prospect, and one that definitely has a lot of future storytelling potential.

Gilgamesh was a lot of fun to spend time with and many fans were understandably disappointed when he died. Hopefully, this rumoured mystery role will give Lee another chance to shine.

Maybe for a cosmic history lesson in The Marvels, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 or maybe even Secret Invasion? Doubt we'll see them again so soon in the present

@Fogs - And the Black Knight, he was more the second half of the 80s but I still think he was on the team in the 90s.

Gilgamesh was a beast in this movie. Rewatched it the other day and I appreciate it a little more now than when I watched it in theaters. Plan to rewatch when I get the uhd home release

I liked Don Lee's Gilgamesh character, also liked him in the Korean zombie horror flick "The Train to Busan". A very good actor and would certainly welcome him back in any MCU project.

@marvel72 - For real. He honestly looks like he could be Wong's brother.

I kept calling him "Swole Wong" in my mind lol

I was bummed they killed him. It would’ve been cool to see him & Hercules as buddies if they ever get around to making Herc. Definitely was my favorite eternal in the movie. Ikaris was cool too but wasn’t crazy about his heel turn

@Tpo81 - They are robots so he can easily come back. Could make for an interesting interaction with Thena

Does anyone know if Thena was written like this in the comics? I didn't follow the ETERNALS when it was out so I don't know.

I ask because they really leaned into her mental health issues in the movie. In fact, that was a HUGE plot point with her. And honestly, because it seemed she was one trigger away from losing it at any time (and she did a few times in the movie) I felt like that gave away part of her agency. Like she couldn't just be a badass warrior. She had to be a badass warrior with mental health issues. Which is fine. It gave her character some depth. But again, I feel like it may have taken away some of her agency.

I too wish they had fleshed out more of Giglamesh's and Thena's love story. In fact, in the movie they really didn't go there at all. It was just HEAVILY implied there was something going on with those two characters. But a movie can only be so long so some things have to be inferred. I get it.

Giglamesh was by FAR my favorite character in the movie. Hated to see him die. It would be nice to see him in a flashback situation in another movie. But if we never saw him again I'd respect that decision too. Sometimes it's better to leave dead characters dead.
