ETERNALS Sequel Rumored To Be In The Works At Marvel Studios; Will Feature Return Of [SPOILER]

An Eternals sequel is once again rumoured to be in the works at Marvel Studios, and at least one key cast member is expected to return despite the door seemingly being closed on that back in 2021...

2021's Eternals was Marvel Studios' first critical failure and, after it was released in the final months of the pandemic, the movie also struggled to make an impact financially.

While there's no denying it was a little overstuffed (and that it boasted an abysmal villain in Kro), there was a lot about Eternals which worked well. The movie arguably has something of an undeserved bad rap, particularly as it showed a different side of the MCU and set the stage for some exciting future stories.

Unfortunately, Marvel Studios hasn't announced plans to release a follow-up to that big cliffhanger and it's unclear when we'll learn what became of the Eternals taken from Earth by Arishem for judgement after their role in stopping Tiamut's emergence.

The Celestial's remains are expected to factor into Captain America: Brave New World as the source of Adamantium in the MCU, though Kit Harington's Dane Whitman/Black Knight was reportedly dropped from Blade several drafts ago.

Well, we may have some long-overdue good news today because scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Eternals 2 is currently in development at Marvel Studios.

Here's the biggest talking point, though: he claims Richard Madden will return as Ikaris! As you'll likely recall, the group's leader was revealed as Eternals' true villain before coming to the realisation he couldn't kill more of his fellow immortals. Instead, Ikaris left Earth and appeared to end his life by flying into the sun (though we were never able to say for sure whether he died or not).

The fact he's returning raises a lot of big questions. Remember, the Eternals were revealed as robot-like beings created by the Celestials to watch over the planets they emerge from; with that in mind, there may be countless versions of "Ikaris" being stored in Arishem's home!

Shortly before last year's San Diego Comic-Con, several trademark filings by Marvel Studios leaked online (with most announced to be on the way during the event). Among them was Celestials: End of Time, suggesting it could be tied to the wider Multiverse Saga and time travel.

If an Eternals sequel materialises, we're expecting some big changes to have been made and for it to boast a potentially much smaller cast. After all, Marvel Studios will know a follow-up is far from a guaranteed box office hit, so reigning in the budget will likely be their first move.

What are you hoping to see from Ikaris in a possible Eternals sequel?

Yeah, it's not even a quality thing at this point. They simply cannot rely on the idea that people are invested in Eternals as a brand because they don't have the data to prove it. They'd either need to effectively reintroduce them in a sequel or recap people on a film they haven't seen.

It'd be an absolute disaster to have the Eternals show up in Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars.

Its marketing was.

@AmazingFILMporg - The thing that I disliked most is all this gender swapping when it's not necessary. There is plenty of female Eternals to choose from.

@AmazingFILMporg - Because a bunch of mouth breathers like saying "woke" for no reason these days.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 11/12/2023, 12:59 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - Because it didn’t have an all white cast. Now they’ll say “I don’t like race/gender swaps” but that’s just a dog whistling tactic they hide behind because they know full well without any race/gender swaps, the cast would’ve remained white and male.

@AmazingFILMporg - I'm still waiting for you to respond to the many times I've defined woke to you when you ask. But instead you just keep pretending we can't define woke.

So how can we believe you will actually hear the reasoning we give if you're just gonna ignore it like always?

In short, woke is communism.
DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 11/12/2023, 1:10 PM
@Slotherin -

Not so much the online material, as much as the interviews instead. Stuff like heavily leaning on representation with Makkari being genderswapped and Phastos being gay had already triggered the usual crowd, but Jolie and Zhao actually saying that this film helped so many people be seen and heard gave those idiots all the material thay needed to ridicule it and review-bomb it to death.

That, and certain other crowds also felt frustrated that the MCU chose to go grand scale theological for a change. Felt bad to no longer have the complaint of formulaic, you know? Baseless as it might have always been.

Batmangina
Batmangina - 11/12/2023, 1:13 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - A force fed diverse casting/gender swapping/chick director who doesn't know [frick] all about comics put into a blender for a long, boring shitshow of a [frick]ing lousy film with shit CGI that everyone who ever read an Eternals comic said 'WTF is this?' which then gets shielded from being a [frick]ing lousy film by the standard 'racist/misogynist' bitchfest that stands in for being able to defend shitty choices that lose money.
marvel72
marvel72 - 11/12/2023, 1:13 PM
@FireandBlood - If you are talking about Ms.Marvel and Ironheart, well I agree they are comic book accurate for the most part.

But I'm not interested in these characters when there is plenty of diverse characters which are better from years ago that they haven't even tapped into.

What is force fed? Simply casting a woman is force fed?
FireandBlood

@marvel72 - Not interested in race swaps, not interested in original characters. Thank you for proving my point.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 11/12/2023, 1:18 PM
@marvel72 - Btw it’s okay you don’t give af about the minority characters, just like it’s okay Brie Larson doesn’t care about the opinions of white boys. Only difference is, she’s got the balls to actually say it.

@Origame - For context, Could you please also define your understanding of communism?
McMurdo
McMurdo - 11/12/2023, 1:22 PM
@Blergh - I mean by the way Bill Maher and current media pundits utilize the term, it’s pretty clear it’s a label used for virtue signaling by means of championing a cause that an individual or an institution doesn’t actually contribute to by any means, especially monetarily, other than for purposes of social currency, and that said cause is championed under the guise of righteousness through an actuality that is truly a thinly veiled self righteousness rooted in narcissism, and a desire for self adoration/glorification. I think a lot of people think having multi ethnic groups alone is what people on the right claim is woke, which IMO is a bad faith argument utilized to devalue the term that they feel is a threat to whatever they believe and hold dear. I get there are idiots who don’t understand the term and do see it as a multi ethnic catch all…but those people don’t get it IMO. Were the X Men woke for having multi cultural characters? No. Everyone loved the X Men from pretty much day one and especially once Uncanny became the focal point. Could a Feige led X Men film become woke? Welcome to the year 2023. Anything is possible.

I'll just copy and paste my OG response anytime I see this I guess.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 11/12/2023, 1:23 PM
@FireandBlood - Pretty sure I read @marvel72 state an interest in a well of original diverse characters they feel hasn't been tapped into out of a preference over characters who rehash already used legacies... But go on...
Batmangina
Batmangina - 11/12/2023, 1:25 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - Have you read the Eternals? Again, the issue is taking an existing property and rearranging it for whatever reason - YES casting a woman as a male character is force fed. Not sure why that is so difficult.

These movies [frick]ing fail horribly and everyone plays dumb - the merchandising is even more of a giant fail. How many Sersi action figures do you have?
marvel72
marvel72 - 11/12/2023, 1:26 PM
@FireandBlood - You play the race or incel card.

I would kick up a fuss if the race swapped Storm, Bishop, Blade, Luke Cage, Spawn, John Stewart and do on.

So yeah not interested in minority characters that are not as good as the ones mentioned above.

Nice try though.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 11/12/2023, 1:27 PM
@AmazingFILMporg - it's because of Meijer's Law (yeah, I made it up myself): fans in fandom grow angrh when the thing they liked doesn't resemble the thing anymore when they joined the fandom, so instead of accepting not everything is made for them they start throwing around terms like "go woke, go broke" to demonize the new thing.

This is ofcourse not applicable to every single fan. What @marvel72 is a valid argument.

Origame
Origame - 11/12/2023, 1:36 PM
@Patient2670 - Jesus christ. Ok, the basic premise of communism is that everyone gets the same regardless of what they actually do.

In terms of woke, it's the idea that races and genders should be given a place in media regardless of the context of the story or any actual talent simply because certain groups are "underrepresented".

Batmangina - 11/12/2023, 1:37 PM
