The first reactions to Eternals arrived a little earlier today, and critics have been raving about the next Marvel Studios movie. The world premiere took place yesterday evening in Hollywood, and Kumail Nanjiani and Angelina Jolie were on hand to hype up what fans can expect from Chloé Zhao's first blockbuster.
However, something that's grabbed the attention of fans online is the mention of a sequel. "Could you tell, we both are obsessed with each other's characters?" the actress said on the red carpet. "So we're hoping in the sequel, our characters are very good sparring partners, because we're almost polar opposites. But yet they're both a little out there, so they'd be a good time."
We're not necessarily taking this as confirmation that a sequel is in the works, but Jolie is clearly interested and it feels a lot like there might have been talks about the direction a follow-up will ultimately head in.
Variety also spoke to the actress and asked whether directing a Marvel Studios would be of interest given her filmmaking background. "Maybe I'll talk to Kevin [Feige] tonight, see if there's a job for me," she teased, by no means dismissing the possibility of that one day becoming a reality.
As an accomplished director and a performer who is no stranger to blockbuster action, we'd definitely love to see what Jolie could bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind the camera. Time will tell on that front, but you can hear more from the Eternals star in the player below:
