We recently learned that an earlier version of Eternals would have included twelve lead heroes instead of ten. During a recent interview with Deadline's Hero Nation Podcast, screenwriters Ryan and Kaz Firpo named at least one of the characters we could have seen alongside Ikaris and company.
"There were two Eternals that we loved dearly. They made it to the cutting room floor," Kaz explained. "We were given a binder when we first started this process. Ryan and I just sat down and flipped through the pages and picked the ones who we thought could best reflect the world, whose powers were the most interesting and compelling, and that really was our journey."
"[A dozen is] a nice number, and so they were kind of pushing that," the writer continued. "And we were saying 'That's quite a lot of people that we've never met before.' They were like, 'Let's try it,' and so we did it for one draft, and the very first thing they were like 'Okay, let's only have ten.' One of them was Vampiro, who was a favourite of producer Nate Moore."
Vampiro is a relatively obscure character from the comic books who ended up becoming a pro wrestler after parting ways with his fellow Eternals. As well as superhuman strength, he has the ability to fly. However, while he does have fangs like a vampire, it's unclear whether he actually acts like one!
With the direction the MCU appears to be heading in, Vampiro is definitely a character we could meet in another form down the line. It's possible that Dracula could even be tied to the Eternals somehow, especially as their existence is clearly a lot more complex than most of us ever imagined.
"A powerful, sweeping exploration of love, life, and the MCU’s history, Eternals occasionally stumbles, but when it soars, this is Marvel Studios at its magnificent best," we said in our review.
Eternals is now playing in theaters.
