Does Latino Review’s Scoop set the stage for a Civil War Movie?

Phase 2 hasn't even begun, but Latino-Review's recent scoop may set the stage for an even bigger event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Latino Review recently announced that (SPOILER WARNING) the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of the Illuminati will be sending Hulk into space leading into a Planet Hulk solo movie and a World War Hulk styled Avengers 3. For those who don’t know the Illuminati is a superhero think tank representing the different types of heroes that exist within the Marvel Universe.

Many have already dismissed this theory, stating that the MCU simply doesn't have the depth of characters to pull off the Illuminati. Those fans may have a point, up until now the only Illuminati characters that have been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are Iron Man and Captain America.

If we are to believe that the Illuminati will be created in the MCU then a few new characters will have to be introduced in order to fill in the rest of the roster. Marvel doesn't own the rights to original group members Mr. Fantastic and Professor X. That leaves us with Namor, Black Bolt, Dr. Strange, and Black Panther as possible Illuminati members, but none of them have been confirmed for the MCU.

Even if you did add all these new characters. The Marvel Cinematic Universe still wouldn't have a deep enough roster of heroes to make the Illuminati work in their current comic book form. Each Illuminati member is meant to be a representative for a broader group of heroes. Iron Man represents the Avengers, Professor X represents the Mutants, Mr. Fantastic represents the Scientists, and so on. The Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't have the hundreds of characters that the comic book universe has so the Illuminati won’t work as a representative group. The only character that would be left out are Thor, Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, War Machine and possibly Captain America. All of which have one thing in common (except Thor) they have ties to the government and SHIELD.

Phase 2 Speculation:

Captain America could become distrustful of SHIELD after the events of Captain America: the Winter Soldier (perhaps SHIELD had something to do with Bucky becoming the Winter Soldier).

The Avengers 2 will feature a massive battle, towards the end of that battle either Loki or Thanos cause the Hulk go berserk and take away his ability to transform back into Bruce Banner. Unbeknownst to the other Avengers, Iron Man has developed technology to stop the Hulk this leads Captain America to distrust Iron Man.

After these events Captain America will bring together Ant-Man (as a substitute for Mr. Fantastic), Thor (as a representative for the Cosmic universe), and Dr. Strange (rumored to appear in Thor 2 and Phase 3) to form the Illuminati. The Illuminati sends the Hulk into space without the advice of Iron Man, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon, War Machine, and the rest of SHIELD.

This event could shake up New York so badly that Nick Fury will have no choice but to force the remaining heroes to register with SHIELD and become full-fledged agents.

Captain America’s decision to send Hulk into Space without Iron Man’s involvement along with Iron Man’s support for SHIELD’s registration efforts sets up enough tension to pull off a Civil War movie for Phase 3.

Phase 3 Speculation:

Avengers 3 will be borrow elements from both World War Hulk and Civil War. In the end the opposing heroes will come together in the films climax in order to stop a vengeful Hulk. In the end Iron Man will become the new director of SHIELD and Thor will become King of Asgard. Captain America will be killed (either by the Hulk or Crossbones) and Bucky will become the new Captain America.

The first Avengers movie began with Captain America being brought to life after being frozen for almost 70 years. Captain America's death would be the perfect way to bookend the first trilogy in the Avengers series.

This is all speculation of course and trying to adapt both PH/WWH and Civil War might be a little too ambitious for Marvel but it's fun to speculate. Share your thoughts below.

This idea is ok. If you flip the sides of who sent Hulk to space and who the Illuminati is then it might work better

Captain America sending Hulk to space would go against everything we know (so far) of his character in the MCU.

@thefirstavenger97 I agree with your statement. It would be an out of character move for Captain America to send the Hulk into space at this point but I could easily see that changing with the release of Captain America: the Winter Soldier

I imagine that SHEILD was somehow behind Bucky becoming the Winter Soldier. This would make Cap completely distrust SHEILD and he would be petrified that they would turn the Hulk into a mindless killing machine like what they did to Bucky.

@MrSteiners and @acorsi11

There are a few ways combining these two stories could work.

I originally had Iron Man as the founder of the Illuminati and put Cap with SHIELD. Iron Man was seriously skeptical of SHIELD in the first Avengers movie. But to me that idea ultimately ended with Iron Man being against SHIELD registration and Captain America being pro-registration which I thought would be to out of character.

I guess the story could work with SHIELD being the ones to send the Hulk to space but would make the creation of the Illuminati unnecessary. What made World War Hulk such a good story was that the Hulk was fighting those heroes that he felt betrayed him, it was done on a personal level and I think you need something like the Illuminati to make that work.

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't sure I liked the idea of killing off Cap and having a civil war and PH/WWH but now I'm okay with it.

It's all too convoluted. The Hulk will sell better being heroic.

Maybe the next hulk movie will have the leader which leads into this scoop

I would absolutely love a Civil War movie, but the problem is that Registration isn't an issue in the MCU. Like at all.

Iron Man: public identity as a super hero
Hulk: SHIELD already knows who he is, and he's on the run anyway
Thor: doesn't have a secret identity, he's a Norse god
Captain America: a SHIELD agent already
Black Widow: a SHIELD agent already
Hawkeye: a SHIELD agent already
Guardians of the Galaxy: not involved in the Civil War, they're busy in space

No one has anything to lose by Registration. Most of the Avenger ARE registered. There are no street level superheroes who would be wary of turning over their identities. I really want to see Iron Man and Cap duke it out, but Registration being the catalyst for the conflict doesn't really work in the MCU, does it? I would love to hear any ideas.

Now, I do think that the Avengers will get in trouble for property damage like the douchey Senator insinuated at the end of The Avengers. Maybe that has something to with it.

I think World War Hulk stopping a massive internal Avengers conflict is a great idea. I also think Hulk might stop fighting everyone if Ultron showed up. Just some thoughts.

I think we'd have Secret War long before Civil War.

agree tainted87 think we are going into the Thanos story maybe send hulk on his Plant Hulk ride. that way explains where he is during phase 3 and still have a movie for him. have him return in phase 4 or something that way more time to est other heroes (street level guys and gals) that have a care about their identities. Also could see marvel getting some of the other studios to work together for a team up movie with the Illuminati original cast it will only improve the popularity of their own members.

Dr. Strange is confirmed, jussaying.

Also, I think they could easily replace the Illuminati with the World Council and Nick Fury.

just thought about this, ant man has been in dev for years (think since early days of iron man 1) dr strange has been kicked around for along time only now being confirmed, black panther rumored but no confirmation. So, this info about world war hulk and Illuminati doesn't have to be anytime soon.
