If you’ve seen any of my fan casts before you will know I’m not one for sifting through old articles and using the same actors others have mentioned in order to gain brownie points. A lot of these may seem unusual but please look past the pictures and read. If you still don’t like it then there is something at the end to at least give you a giggle!
Without further ado....
Superman (Kal-El/Clark Kent) - Joe Manganiello
Superman - We all know who he is. In the Justice League he is their unofficial leader. When one of the other members is in trouble, he is their first call of help. When all else fails Superman doesn’t.
Joe Manganiello - Probably my most obvious casting. For a hero described above you need an actor not only with acting chops but a formidable physique and chin. Joe has all this. At 6’5” he will tower over almost any other actor and his muscles look like they could actually repel bullets! There have been many arguments for him in this role and many against. The biggest issue most people seem to have is “he doesn’t look like a farm boy from Kansas”. Guess what? Clark ISN’T from Kansas! His genes are Kryptonian. Having him look slightly different can only add to his feeling out of place thus adding to the character and adding to the story. Don’t buy that? OK, what’s the issue? His tan. Well, Superman does travel a lot. Still don’t want it? Hollywood can make a man bright blue so it is easily taken care of these days. Which ever way you look at it, the pros out-weigh the cons. And in most cases, the cons are expelled as nothing more than fan boy nitpicking.
Martian Manhunter (J’onn J’onzz) - Laurence Fishburne
Martian Manhunter - He is the last of his kind. This super strong, flying, shape shifting telepath is a formidable warrior and feared by his allies just as much as his enemies. Finding it difficult to connect with humans he lives in an almost self imposed exile. He rarely uses his physical abilities to their fullest and acts as a kind of “overseer” to the Justice League.
Laurence Fishburne - I chose him for his voice more than anything. Manhunter’s physicality is so complex it would take a blend of make up, prosthetics and/or cgi to make this character work. Laurence has the ideal voice for this job. It is intelligent, calm and yet distant with a hint of sorrow.
Flash (Wally West) - Jake Abel
Flash - Wally West is (in my opinion) the best Flash there is. Not only is he more experienced than Barry as he gained his powers at a much younger age, he is also more powerful, having broken the light barrier along with venturing into the speed force and coming back out (granting him new powers such as phasing). But that’s not why I like him so much. While Barry was rightly described as being “like a gay virgin” by my mate the other day, Wally has fun with his power and he is a wisecracking cocky character. But all this simply covers his insecurity. He never truly realises how powerful he is or how important he is to the Justice League. He is always looking up to others rather than allowing himself to become self-righteous. He is the conscience that keeps the rest of the team grounded.
Jake Abel - I have seen Jake on Supernatural playing one character in three different ways and it was a joy to see. As “Adam” the illegitimate brother of the Winchesters, the first time we see him he is actually as a ghoul in Adam’s form. The second time he is the brother resurrected. And the final time we see him is as the Angel Michael using his body as a host. Each incarnation of this character is played completely differently and this speaks volumes for his acting talents. Physically he is tall with broad shoulders and slim build, perfect for a runner!
Wonder Woman (Diana) - Linda Cardellini
Wonder Woman - The Amazonian princes is a born warrior. Her enhanced strength and durability go hand in hand with flight, lightning reflexes and expertise to make one fierce opponent. She is one of the most respected members of the League and can turn the tide of any battle with her presence.
Linda Cardellini - She is simply a beautiful woman! Not a girl, a woman! She can act and is into martial arts too so should handle any fighting nicely. If she can make Scooby Doo’s “Velma” this sexy, just imagine what she could do for Wonder Woman!
Green Lantern (John Stewart) - Rick Worthy
Green Lantern - John Stewart is a military man through and through. He took over duties of being Hal Jordan’s replacement after Guy Gardner was taken out of action. His attitude didn’t sit well with Hal at first but he soon proved his worth. In the Justice League he uses his military training just as much as his power ring and can asses a situation before allowing the team to rush in.
Rick Worthy - Another actor I saw on Supernatural. I didn’t have a clue who to cast in this role but then Rick’s recent turn as the “Alpha Vampire” on Supernatural made the decision clear. His voice is what really got me, perfect for that military background.
Hawkgirl (Shiera Hall) - Thora Birch
Hawkgirl - Shiera Hall or Shayera Hol (pronounced the same) joins the Justice League as a double agent only to be betrayed by both her native leaders and her growing emotions for the Human Race. She is a headstrong brawler with very strong values of loyalty. It is when her loyalties are challenged that she turns her back on her own people in order to stand with the Justice League.
Thora Birch - She is a great actress with a great rack! She does suffer a little with “baby face syndrome” but I think this could help with portraying the characters naivety and conflict of loyalties.
Batman (Bruce Wayne) - Timothy Olyphant
Batman - The only founding member with no superpowers. Despite this, or more probably because of this, he is the most respected member of the League. His detective skills, fearlessness and training make him a valuable member of the team. While Wally West keeps the powerful members grounded and humble, Batman reminds them of what they fight for. He is human, and as such he gives the group a much needed (non powered) human factor.
Timothy Olyphant - This was the hardest role for me to cast. I toyed with several actors, all were too young, too short or just too nice. I think Timothy has the height, the talent and a good chin for the role so that’s why I went for him.
There it is. I hope you liked it. I tried to keep it as original as possible. If you loved it or hated it here’s a little something for your time
