For those who've missed it, here's the first part of the cast: http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Contemplations/news/?a=20020

And now for the characters of the second half of Death Note...

The SPK (Near's Group)

Near: Logan Lerman. He's got both the youthful look and the energy for this character. I will add that Lerman is also my second choice for Light. But he'd still make an awesome Near.

Anthony Rester: Johann Urb. He's been in a few movies, but isn't a big star. Plus Urb is a spitting image of Rester.

Halle Lidner: Alice Eve. She looks just like the character, and actually is a rather good actress. And her fairly recent casting as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class certainly must mean something.

Stephen Gevanni: James Marsden. I'd personally love to see him take a crack at an investigative/detective role. My main worry is that Marsden may be too big an actor for a fairly minor role.

Mello's Group/Mafia

Mello: Jamie Campbell Bower. You might recognize him best as one of the Volturi vampires in the Twilight movies, but don't judge him based on that. Bower definitely can play a fairly creepy role, and still be likeable in his own strange way, plus his penchant for somewhat quirky roles would make him not only own the part of Mello, but bring something new to the table too.

Matt: Trent Ford

ETA: I had to remove the image after finding out it contained a fanart instead of an official image. I hope people understand that it was an honest mistake on my part, and I apologize for any inconvienences as well as to the original artist for the accidental stealing. I never meant any harm.

The other members can be played by moderately talented extras since they're such small characters that they don't really need much in the way of big budget stars.

The Yotsuba Group

Kyosuke Higuchi: TJ Thyne

Takeshi Ooi: Stanley Tucci

Reiji Namikawa: Justin Bruening

Eiichi Takahashi: Mark Valley

Arayoshi Hatori: Kevin McKidd

Shingo Mido: Sean Maher

Masahiko Kida: Linus Roache

Other Major Characters

Teru Mikami: Jared Leto. Despite being 38, Leto still doesn't look a day older than his mid-20s, so age won't be much of an issue. I do hope Leto hasn't fully abandoned acting, because he's very talented and yet underrated, since these days he's focused on his band 30 Seconds to Mars (my favorite band ever, on top of that). And Leto can play very dark, emotionally intense characters, as evidenced by many of his previous roles in Fight Club, Alexander (a crappy movie, but he was actually one of the better parts), and Chapter 27. Mikami should be a snap for him.

(For those wondering where the image is, look at the part under Matt, which had the same problem.)

Kiyomi Takada: Ashley Greene. Yeah, another Twilight actress. Get over it and grow up people; give some actors/actresses a chance.

interesting casting Lerman is my first choice for Light actually with Joseph Gordon Levitt as L. There is something anime/mangaish about Lerman which makes me think he would fit in Death Note and he also doesn't come across as vapid/vacant

@kizuna, in your last death note cast i said i couldnt figure out a better person for light than aaron johnson, but i think i found somebody better, somebody who can pull off a darker, more malicious character, just dye garrett hedlund's hair dark brown and you have a perfect light, voice and all!

I look at this no differently than I do Akira. Americanizing this show makes my stomach turn. I'll stick with current Death Note movies, as I thought they were pretty good.

Thanks guys! :)

@ joob234: Eh, I like Garrett Hedlund, but I fear he might be too old for Light. Remember, he first starts out as a high school student, then a college freshman. Sure, there is that time skip, but still, I don't really see Hedlund as Light.

@ Ranger14: I agree, I really don't like the idea of remaking another Japanese movie and "Americanising" it. But I do think, with the right director and actors, it could actually be well done.
