I whole heartedly believe that The Lizard should be the villain in the sequel to the to the Spider-man reboot. We waited for him to show up ever since the mention for Dr. Curt Connors in Spider-Man 1. This should almost run like a Dr. Jeckle/ Mr. Hyde mixed with The Wolfman type of movie. It also serves as an opportunity to begin one of the most controversial moments in comic book history
As previously stated in my overview of a possible story line for the reboot, Peter and Gwen are still interning at the ESU biology labs, under the tutelage of the good doctor. A small scene in the first film indicates that Norman Osborne has been financially backing Connors in order to further his recreation of the Super Soldier Serum. Perhaps Oscorp has been given the contract by General Ross, linking this movie to both the Captain America movie and the Incredible Hulk movie. Osborne either calls or visits with Connors in the first film and threatens to pull his funding if he does not come up with a working formula for accelerated healing soon. Connors later decides to test the formula out on himself in order to re-grow his arm which was lost in the explosion that killed Peters parents, Richard and Mary Parker,
who could have been friends of Connors and fellow scientists in his lab when they worked for the government. This could also be how Peter was granted the internship. None of this has to be shown in cut-scenes or flashbacks, but could be suggested in conversations in the movie
Peter arrives at Connors lab
Connors - "You look just like your father. Has anyone ever told you that?"
Peter - "You knew my father?"
Connors - "He, your mother, and I were collegues years ago."
Connors picks up a picture frame from his desk, housing a photo of himself standing along side Richard Parker and shows it to Peter.
Connors - "If you are even half as brilliant as your parents were, i should expect great things from you."
When Peter and Gwen leave for coffee, just before the battle with Electro in Time Square during the first movie, Connors is left alone in the lab where he decides to test the serum he created using starter DNA from a lizard. Peter and Gwen return to the lab at the end of the movie to find it has been completely wrecked. as the camera pans the room, claw marks can be seen on a pillar, hidden from the view of the two characters, indicating that the lizard is indeed the next villain.
Spider-man Sequel
Through out the next movie news reports can be heard indicating that there has been an outbreak of disappearances over the weeks or months or how ever long it is supposed to be between movies beginning with the disappearance of Dr Connors, most of which occurring late at night in or around the subways. Dr Warren has taken over the lab in Connors stead and business continues as usual.
A rash of break-ins begin to happen at the lab in the middle of the movie, in which lab equipment is repeatedly stolen. Since the lab is on the 3rd floor and it is apparent that the door is not used, Spider-man is blamed. Peter, being the good superhero he is and wanting to clear his good name, decides to investigate.
Spider-man stakes out the lab and sees someone or something entering the lab through the window. He jumps across the gab between the buildings and crawls down to get a better look. Spider-man silently climbs through the window and across the ceiling, attempting to ambush the creature. The camera pans down in front of the lizards face too close to get a full idea of what it looks like, stopping to show only its eyes and nostrils which flare as it smells the hero inching closer. Its eyes slowly move from what is is doing to the side Spider-man is crawling from.
Then like a flash, it spins around and knocks Spidey from the ceiling which its tail. It stands completely upright, completely dwarfing our hero, its head almost touching the ceiling.
The camera switches to ground level outside the building and the two crash through the window and hit the ground.
Spider-man is down but gets up in time to see The Lizard crawl up the side of the adjacent building where he soon follows suit. The Lizard runs on all fours, leaping from rooftop to rooftop as Spider-man gives chase. The Lizard disappears between two buildings and Spider-man crawls down after him.
He jumps off the wall and narrowly misses a powerful swing by the Lizards tail which hits a dumpster, completely crushing it against the wall like a stepped on soda can. It claws at Spidey with razor sharp claws, slashing Spidey across the chest, ripping the front of his uniform. Spidey narrowly misses another slash and counters with a right hook. His arm is caught before it connects and the Lizard slams him into the wall, picks up the crushed dumpster, and tosses it at him like a football. Spidey back-flips onto the wall, escaping collision with the flying dumpster.
The Lizard takes the opportunity to make a get away exiting the alley and runs into traffic.
Cars swerve and honk as the giant reptile weaves through the intersection (camera switches momentarily into one of the cars that cashes into an already stopped van, giving us the perspective of the driver. The Lizard's clawed hands and feet are seen through the cracked windshield running across the hood, followed by two consecutive thuds on the roof and we see Spider-man land on the side of a lamp post and disappear into the park.
A Couple is taking a romantic carridge ride through the park when the horse is startled by the Lizard as it runs past. The couple looks on in fear and amazement as Spider-man swings by chasing the beast. he manages to swing along side the Lizard and give him a cannonball kick to the ribs and the animals momentum sends it tumbling into a near by tree. Spider-man gets up with a slight limp and quickly walks it off as they once again begin to fight.
Punches and kicks are thrown by each party and once again the Lizard gains the upper hand, grabbing Spider-man in a bear-hug and begins to squeeze.
The two are eye to eye and just before the Lizard attempts to make a meal out of Spidey's face, it gets a web mask and roars in suprize. it drops its would be meal and attempts to rip the webbing off as spidey starts giving it body jabs. The Lizard stumbles back and finally removes the webbing then resumes its attack. Spidey bobs and weaves like a well trained boxer, jumps up and kicks the Lizard in the chest and, using it like a springboard, back-flips off. He goes in for a flying kick. The Lizard meets his efforts with the swing of a nearby park bench and connects with the hero like a baseball pitch, sending him reeling. The monster once again makes his escape.
The sound of screaming people can be heard and Spider-man Slingshots himself skyward towards the commotion where, from above, a crowd can be seen fleeing the subway in terror.
Sider-man lands on top of the terminal sign and makes his way to the source of the commotion, sticking to the ceiling as the crowd pour out beneath him. He finally arrives on the platform and finds the Lizard, who has a woman and her daughter pinned up against a pillar. It lunges but its mouth is webbed shut at the last second. As it spins around in an attempt to free its jaws, it's tail slices across the pillar. The police arrive led by Captain Stacy (Gwen's father, Introduced in the previous movie)and try to hold the crowd back.
Suddenly charges toward an officers but Spider-man swings in and grabs the would be victims in the nick of time. Spidey quickly webs a pay-phone, slamming it into the beasts head like a bolo. The section of the pillar begins to break loose, but everyone is too preoccupied by the fight to notice. Everyone except Captain Stacey, who sees the impending doom about to befall a little boy. Spider-mans spider sense suddenly rings out and he turns around to try and catch the pillar before it falls but the pillar is far too damaged and a section crumbles in his hands.
A portion of the upper platform begins to collapse. Captain Stacy rushes over and pushes the young onlooker out of the way but is, himself, crushed under the debris.
Spider-man rushes over to the fallen Police Captain, and tries to lift the chunk of concrete away. Stacy utters something that Spiderman can barely hear. He leans in to hear what the Captain is saying. Stacy reveals that he has always known that Spider-man was really Peter Parker and tells him to watch over Gwen. Spiderman, shocked by this discovery and grief stricken by the events that have just occurred, rips the slab away and grabs the lifeless body of the heroic police man and takes him to the nearest hospital.
Peter rushes him into the Emergency entrance. they are greeted by the charge nurse who he stutteringly' informs of what happened. "The-there was an accident in the subway" he mutters. She turns to call a code but he is gone when she turns back around.
