Well after the whole thing with Loki stealing the tesseract, and hawkeye being used as some kind of mind controlled errand boy, which just had me on an eye rolling extravaganza; like I said from (PART 1) The movie just starts off as a typical cliche action movie, which means the audience including me, knew exauctly what was going to happen next through out the entire movie.
The only thing I honestly can say I did not expect in the movie was the whole subplot of Shield holding Hydra's weapons as a way to advance their technology, but by the way that Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Agent Coulson were acting in certain things I wouldn't have been surprised that somebody wouldn't have detected it from the beginning, and the way they played it off as a ploy to add tension inbetween the team was just another unnecessary problem that we had to stick on while Loki is plotting his master plan.
The only thing I liked about the shield conflict on the helicarrier is Mark Rufflo's performance as a tired, withdrawn Bruce Banner who does not want to be used as a weapon, and how he tries to keep himself calm even when all of his so-called teammates are verbally going at it.
(okay so now I would like to post most of the grips I have for this film.)
1. The plot is typical, and predictable.
2. The whole thing with the mindcontrolled Hawkeye, and Dr. Erik Selvig was just not handled correctly and little to simple.
3. Loki was a typical villian who wants to control the human race (like we haven't heard of that before)
4. They did not explain how Thor was able to come back to earth, atleast not in detail.
5. Loki stayed and watched as Iron-Man, Thor, and Captain America fought and none of them thought it was weird, or perculiar that he did not escape and let them arrest him.
6. when they did take him in into the helicarrier it took them a good while to finally realize that he was trying to use the hulk as a strong ally.
7. Captain America smacked a grenade out of the way with his bare hand!!
8. Hawkeye was just getting his butt handed to him in the most ridiculous was by black widow, to the point where he just gets knocked out and that just happens to get Loki's mindcontrolled grasp out of his mind.
9. Scarlett Johanson could have been replaced to play Black Widow, her long pauses on screen and her tries of clever jokes are as flat as Anna Hatheway's stomach, and her russian accent is no where to be found (please don't give me that whole lector of how she's a spy and she has to conceal it, because I don't care.)
10.Agent Coulson's death was handled in comedic way then a dramatic or emotional way, that it just felt goofy and made me feel as though if I couldn't feel sad when such a good character like Agent Coulson dies then I wouldn't care for any of the Avengers dying either.
11. The Chituari are the weakest army since the drones in phantom menace, (they even shut down like them to) all they really did was blow up a couple cars, shoot a couple buildings, and wave their fancy weapons at a couple scared citizens, but you never see someone hurt or killed; you never feel as though this army could really do some damage to the world.
12. Bruce Banner just happens to get to New York just in time for the alien invasion, on a dirty, old scooter which is probaly one of the most random things in the entire movie.
13. Nick Fury's superiors launch a nuclear misssle to destroy New York, are you serious!!!
14. The only way to close the portal is by Loki's skeptor, like they couldn't have thought of something a little more scientific.
15. Iron-Man leads the bomb into the portal, when somehow his suit doesn't freeze in deep space especially in a suit that just flys onto him (Iron-Man 1 anybody?)
16. Captain America just decides to close the portal on Iron-Man after he basically just saved New York without a second thought.
17. and lastly The Chitauri just shut down like robots.
I know that people love this movie and consider it to be the "best comicbook movie ever" but I just consider it to be okay at best, all of this screaming and shouting about which comic book movie is better is unnecessary, beacause both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises have there noticable flaws. it's just that the marvel fans are more dedicated and loud, I am surprised their not fighting people in public around the world, just beacuse someone says something about The Avengers.
But on a serious note Joss Whedon is the one to fix this on going conflict and the time that he accepts the movies as equal apponents in the genre as Tom Hiddleson has, we will all get along.
So this has been like a late movie review for me but at the end of it all I will still buy the blu-ray just to see if there is anything that might mesmerize me as it has done to the fans, because as a lover of films I respect any movie good or bad and hopefully with a new screenwriter, The Avengers sequel has some potential.
(P.S. I understand your opinions I get it you guys have been waiting for the Avengers for a long time; just like I have been waiting for the Dark Knight Rises for a long time, and I understand that The Dark Knight might have sparked this online bickering; but as a fan please for the love of Yoda stop it!! It's over you guys won, The Nolan batman franchise is over. Yes I admit it you guys won but for the upcoming Man of steel movie and the new Batman Reboot atleast give it a chance, and for some of the hater's that just love to hate well the debate will always go no with no real resolution.
