10. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor in Superman

9. Mickey Rourke as Marv in Sin City

8. Jackie Earle Haley as Walter Kovacs (Rorschach) in Watchmen

7. Gary Oldman as James Gordon in Batman Begins

6. Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus (Otto Octavius) in Spider-Man 2

5. Warren Beatty as Dick Tracy in Dick Tracy

4. Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman (Selina Kyle) in Batman Returns

3. Ron Perlman as Hellboy in Hellboy

2. Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man (Tony Stark) in Iron Man

1. Patrick Stewart as Professor X (Charles Xavier) in X-Men

NOTE: Heath Ledger's Joker was a re-imagining by Christoper Nolan. It was a portrayal given by Christopher Nolan. In the DC comics, the Joker wasn't that dark. He was always up to something. In the DK Heath Ledger Ledger's Joker was always serious, not laughing or making jokes, etc. You know what I mean.

i wouldn't put catwoman on there either, i always found her whinney and annoying in the film, i dont really get that from the character when i read the comics books.

Although i do agree with you on Heath's Joker, in making that point you cant possibly have Catwoman on this list.

I take it your judging the actors based on how close their portrayal was to the comic book version?

I agree with most of this!!! ; )

But no JOKER, either JOKER?

Though if it was the worst comic casting pics ever, if ackles ever got picked as CAP, that would be number one lol!

TheShakeBake - that's not true, we saw him float away, we didn't see him die. He is "still at large" to quote the news paper at the end of Spiderman 2.

I agree with pretty much all of this list, although I'd put Rorschach and Hell Boy further up the field. But Completely disagree with your Joker reasoning. Not saying he should be listed but the reasons you gave for not having him are wrong. He did crack jokes (disappearing pen) and laugh a lot. And lets get this straight, Heath's Joker wasn't re-imagined in any way whatsoever. All Heath did was play a f*cking good Joker the way most of us seem to imagine him. He didn't re-invent him, he didn't do something so remarkable it should be held as the greatest performance ever and he didn't make it impossible for anyone else to follow him up. Just because the guy died (all respect due) we all jump on the bandwagon and want to make him out to be something he's not, and that actually takes away from his performance.

I'm surprised that burton's Joker isn't on there, i could see him up there rather than Gene Hackman's Luthor. I'd honestly like to see Gary Oldman higher on the list. In my opinion he is possibly one of the best casting s in any comic book movie, His portrayal of Gordon is what I have always wanted to see on screen.

Gary Oldman does such a great job as Jim Gordon its uncanny. A friend of mine put it best when he said "Its like they were able to pull him straight out of the comic book".

Christopher reeve should be on it. And if I had to pick a joker i would say nicholsans was closer to the comic character. But i agree with tea about putting them together. And I would put rorshach higher. But good list otherwise.

I hated Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Rorschach and Comissioner Gordon should be higher up. Where's Joker?

If you weren't going to list the Joker, then why in the blue hell is he the teaser picture for the article?

well because heath did a hell of job portraying the joker that nolan re-imagined, guys be lenient it is just my opinion ;p...i respect yours as i read your comments i think heath should be mentioned as honorary character. well heath didnt perform the characteristics of the real joker he was dark, and as Howlett04 said about the disappearing pen it was portrayal of a darker joker a joker created by nolan not the one in the DC universe.

Have you ever read a comic book?!?
I'm inclined to think not.

First of all while Gene Hackman is a great actor his portrayal of Lex is wrong, not his fault obviously it is the writers fault but Lex is not some goof ball he is a criminal mastermind and a genius. If you want a great portrayal of Lex look to Michael Rosenbaum's. It's as iff he stepped right out of the comics.

And Michelle as Catwoman is terrible she was absolutely nothing like Selina Kyle she doesnt even look like her.

And then Joker deserved to be on that list, Heath brought a much lacking part of that character to life. Your statement that the joker is too dark is proof you have never read a Batman comic in your life. Joker is a sick, sadistic, psychotic killer in the comics not some dork with make up on who plays with whoopee cushions.

Get a clue, read a comic.

racerx@ no reason to be a dick. its just the guys opinion. thats why its a fan fic. you shouldnt insult someone cause they have a different opinion than you. and hes right, ledger is not the joker from the comics, no matter how you try to slice it. yes he had the sadistic side, but thats it. no jokes, no hand buzzer, no smiling fish. ledger was great but he is not the comicbook joker. i agree with you about hackman and pfieffer as well. they were not based on the comic characters either. but no reason to be insulting.

I agree with RacerX to a degree. Heath's Joker was a lot closer to what the Joker is like in the comics depending on who the author is. But they pretty much summed up who the Joker was in TDK. The Joker is a very dark character. He has not only shot and paralyzed Barbara Gordon but he also took pictures of what he did to her and forced the James Gordon to watch and he has even killed countless people including Gordon's own wife. Mind you this graphic novel came out way before the TDK and was once of the sources used for the movie. This is just my opinion though so take for what it is.

All awesome choices except for Catwoman and Lex Luthor. Catwoman was too bloody weird and I would love to see Nolan modernise her as a sexy cat burglar and Lex Luthor was better played by Kevin Spacey and Michael Rosenbaum, but I still think someone could do a better job in the role!
