An Animated Fancast by ager and FlixMentallo21: 'The Rogues: The Animated Series'

An Animated Fancast by ager and FlixMentallo21: 'The Rogues: The Animated Series'

A 5 season cartoon series spinning off of the DCCU (DC cinematic universe) ager developed, revising said timeline from 2005-present.

I, ager, have created my vision of how I would have created the DCCU. I began with Superman (series beginning in '05). From there, I forged ahead with Batman (series beginning in '06), Green Lantern (series beginning in '07) and Wonder Woman (series beginning in '08). I have decided that the success of the DCCU would cause DC to invest in 2 newer, fresher animated cartoons, and 2 CW live-action shows.

I wanted to make very interesting cartoons that are tailor-made for specific age groups. Not everything has to be made for YOU. Sometimes, a light-hearted cartoon can made for the younger children.

Anyway, in coming up with two such cartoons, The Rogues and Shazam (with a 5 minute Cyborg cartoon at the end of each), I turned to the CBM voice casting expert, FlixMentallo21, to not only come up with the ideal and realistic voice cast for each cartoon, but edit any part of my story he sees fit.

Together, we will bring you 2 cartoons, that we hope you enjoy very much. 1st up is The Rogues, a cartoon made for the wee-ones in the vein of Teen Titans (2003), The Batman (2004) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008).

I can see a very comedic opener exploring the Barry Allen Flash gaining his powers, only to be interrupted almost immediately by Captain Cold freezing the speedster, breaking the 4th wall and explaining that this is not Flash's show, it's all about the Rogues...

Did you Know...

A little about who the Rogues are:

Some of the enemies of the comic book superhero the Flash, led by Captain Cold, constitute a loose criminal association who refer to themselves as the Rogues, disdaining the use of the term "supervillain" or "super-criminal".

The Rogues, compared to similar collections of supervillains in the DC Universe, are an unusually social group, maintaining a code of conduct as well as high standards for acceptance. No Rogue may inherit another Rogue's identity (a "legacy" villain, for example) while the original still lives. Also, simply acquiring a former Rogue's costume, gear, or abilities is not sufficient to become a Rogue, even if the previous member is already dead.

Flix says...
The show, akin to "The Dukes of Hazzard", is narrated by...

ager says...
A Missouri (where Central City is said to be) native in John Goodman.

ager also says...
In terms of the show's art style, I was thinking Legion of Super Heroes in the 31st Century (though the best art is Young Justice, this takes place before that). Legion has a very kid-like feel to the art.

Season 1-13 episodes

The show's first episodes are origin stories of each of the founding members. Each additional member throughout the series gets an origin episode as well.

Over-arching theme: the Rogues battle the Flash throughout season 1.

The Rogues members:

-Captain Cold
Bio:
Leonard Snart has very strict morals for a villain, a 'code of honor' if you will: refusing to kill women or children, actively against drugs and senseless (what he considers senseless) violence.

Cold was raised by an abusive father, who forced his son to refer to him by his military rank, that of Captain, and took refuge with his grandfather, who worked driving an ice truck. When his grandfather died, Lenny grew tired of his father's abuse and set out to start a criminal career. Snart donned a parka and declared himself to be Captain Cold, a dig aimed towards his father.

He is the very intelligent, directing, leader of the Rogues

Voiced by:

Flix says...
Jason Sudeikis of SNL fame, who also voices Holt Richter on "The Cleveland Show".

ager says...
His deep voice and his comic timing make him an ideal choice for the lead.

-Mirror Master
Bio:
Sam Scudder was a simple convict, but had the goal to learn how to get inside the reflection of a mirror. Stumbling into a hall of mirrors, he experimented and discovered a way to get in his own reflection. He used this power to become the criminal Mirror Master. It has been shown in several past incidents that something lives in the mirror universe that is deadly.

He is the most unhinged member.

Voiced by

Flix says...
Dan Castellaneta, better known as the voice of Homer Simpson. Other characters: Doc Brown in the cartoon based on "Back To the Future", Grandpa Phil on "Hey Arnold!".
DCU cred: Voiced the Ventriloquist/Arnold Wesker and Scarface on "The Batman".

ager says...
If he did something similar to his Megavolt voice from Darkwing Duck, I'd be pretty happy.

-Heat Wave
Bio:
Born on a farm outside Central City, Mick Rory became fascinated with fire as a child. This fascination turned into an obsession and one night, he set his family's home ablaze. His obsession was so great, that he simply watched the flames engulf his house, instead of running to get help.

After this event, he took a job as a fire eater with a traveling circus. This did not last long either, as he ended up setting the circus on fire. He decided to use his mania to become a villain. He has an intense fear of cold, called cryophobia. (This puts him at comical odds with Cpt. Cold.)

Voiced by

Flix says...
Seth Green of Robot Chicken and Family Guy
DCU cred: voiced 'Wizard' on "Batman: The Animated Series" and Nelson Nash on "Batman Beyond".

ager says...
Its an odd choice that I somehow can't disagree with. How would he not be hilarious as Cold's counterpart, the Wolverine to his Cyclops.

-Weather Wizard
Bio:
Escaping a prison transport by leaping from the window, Mark Mardon fled to his brother's house only to find the house empty. Mardon's brother, Clyde, a scientist, had just discovered a way to control the weather before disappearing. Rather than find his brother, the crook used the weapon to become the Weather Wizard.

He is Cold's right hand man, and the most capable, next to Cold himself.

Voiced by

Flix says...
Patrick Seitz. Seitz has voiced a long list of anime characters and is even well versed with DC, having voiced Deathstroke in the video game "Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe".

-The Trickster/James Jesse
Bio:
A conman whose favorite occupation is damaging enemies with items such as explosive teddy bears. He was a circus acrobat.

The class clown of the team.

Voiced by

Flix says...
Rob Paulsen, better known as the voice of Raphael in the '80s TMNT cartoon, Pinky from Pinky and the Brain and even Donatello in the new TMNT. He also voiced the leads of the cartoons based on "The Mask" and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". His Jim Carrey impression from those shows inspired this pick.
DCU cred: Lightray on "Justice League", Goggan and Bumpy on "Green Lantern: The Animated Series", Sal Maroni in "Batman: Gotham Knight", and the Weaponers of Qward in "Green Lantern: First Flight".

ager says...
With a range and funny bone such as that, I can't fathom the voice he'd create to bring to life the Trickster.

-(Pied) Piper
Bio:
A deaf man who's mastered the lobotomizing sound waves of a mysterious flute. He uses the flute to put others in a zombie-like stupor in order to do as he pleases. He's the arrogant member.

The outsider of the group.

Voiced by

Flix says...
Neil Patrick Harris.
DCU cred: Replay on "Static Shock", Ray Thompson on "Justice League", Barry Allen in "Justice League: The New Frontier", the Music Meister on "Batman: The Brave and the Bold", and Nightwing in "Batman: Under the Red Hood".

ager says...
Although he voiced both Barry Allen and Nightwing, Harris, I think, would be wise to bring the arrogance of Barney Stinson to this character.

-Captain Boomerang
Bio:
Deadly with the weapon on which he took his name, he sought to challenge himself against the fastest man alive.

Having the ability to hit any target, he aimed to hit the quickest moving bulls-eye, Flash, and prove to the world there is no one better.

When other expert marksmen show up to battle the Rogues, "Digger" takes it personally, and aims (pun intended) to prove they're not in his league.

The A-hole of the group, he is, by far, the one member that may not share the selfless morals of the others. He's very sneaky.

Voiced by

Flix says...
John DiMaggio returns as Digger. I picture him portraying Digger as the "Bender" of the Rogues.
He voiced him before on "Batman: The Brave and the Bold". (He's also lent his voice to multiple DC shows.)

-The Shade
Bio:
Richard Swift was a young man in the year 1838. One night in London, Swift was trapped amidst an unexplained mystical tragedy, in which 104 people vanished. The most immediate of effects upon him was the permanent loss of all memory before the incident; fortunately, a carriage appeared and took him in.

The gentleman who had picked him up gave him the name Piers Ludlow, and offered to help him recount his past.

Accepting his "kindness", Swift was taken to Ludlow's house.

However, the whole affair was a setup; the whole Ludlow family was in fact a band of killers and swindlers. When they intended to use Swift as another scapegoat, he reflexively unleashed his shadows, killing all the present Ludlows. Only a young pair of twins, absent from the affair, survived. Ever since then, the immortal had been pursued quite actively by the Ludlows, whom he abated with little remorse, ridding himself of dozens of the family. Bored with life, he sought to become a criminal for the rush. He originally fought Jay Garrick, and nowadays fights Jay's successor Barry Allen.

The aristocrat of the team.

Voiced by

Flix says...
David Hyde Pierce from Frasier and the voice of many characters, including Abe Sapien in the first Hellboy movie. I was inspired by his character Cecil Terwilliger, brother of Sideshow Bob (played by Kelsey Grammer), on "The Simpsons".

ager says...
That snobbish voice that comes naturally to him would bode well here.

-Ragdoll
Bio:
The only other remaining villain from the rogues gallery of the original Flash, Jay Garrick. He is well into his 70's. His hyper-elastic ligaments are beginning to collapse and over-extend, causing the villain great pain. He is brought to, and kept on, the team as a show of great respect for the original rogue, despite his limits and growing senility.

He's a crotchety old, angry man they 'baby-sit', yet they humor him and listen to his "advice".

Voiced to perfection by

Flix says...
Tim Conway, who's most famous for The Carol Burnett Show, might also be known for guest-starring on "Yes, Dear" or, more appropriately here, voicing Barnacle Boy (alongside the late Ernest Borgnine) from SpongeBob Squarepants.
DCU cred: voiced the Golden Age villain The Weeper on "Batman: The Brave and the Bold".

ager says...
The man is hysterical and would devour his scenes.

GUEST STARRING:

-The Flash (Barry Allen)
Bio:
How and why is irrelevant. All we know is he dons a set of red tights sporting a lightning bolt, dubs himself the Flash (after the retired original) and becomes Central City's costumed crime-fighter.

Flix says...
Zachary Levi (recurring guest voice) as the voice of the Flash/Barry Allen. I have used him before in two of my fancasts.

ager says...
Levi provides a fantastic guest voice that fans may geek over.

+Johnathan Chambers & Jay Garrick
Bio:
S.T.A.R. Labs employees Dr. Johnathan Chambers and Dr. Jay Garrick, 35 years prior, experimented with heavy water, where their protective suits are accidentally torn. Normally a death warrant, Garrick finds that he can run at superhuman speed and has similarly fast reflexes. Chambers, however is virtually unaffected. (Unlike the mainstream comics, where he becomes the Golden Age crime-fighter Johnny Quick after discovering the equation for superhuman speed.)

-Jay Garrick
Flix says...
Henry Winkler
DCU cred: voiced Ambush Bug in the final episode of "Batman: The Brave and the Bold". Had Garrick been in JLU, Winkler would've been my #1 choice to voice him.

ager says...
Winkler may have popularized himself as the Fonz, mentoring a young Richie Cunningham, but he, in recent times has taken on the fatherly role in many an Adam Sandler movie and in the TV series Royal Pains.

-Johnny Chambers
Flix says...
Burt Ward

ager says...
Why should Adam West (TV's Batman) get all of the voice gigs? Why can't Ward (Robin) get a gig or 2? It's a great nod to yesteryear.

-Max Mercury
Bio:
Enchanted by a dying Indian shaman in the 1830's, Max Mercury gained super-speed. Mercury has repeatedly traveled through time, seeking to enter the so-called Speed Force. He usually bounces off and finds himself decades in the future.

In bouncing, he runs into Jay Garrick and trains him to be a hero. Garrick dons a costume, complete with a helmet, alluding to the Roman god Mercury, and also as an homage to Max, calling himself the Flash.

In recent years, a retired, aged Garrick has passed the torch, and acts as a guide, as Max did for him, to Barry, who took on the mantle when he was powered.

Flix says...
Daran Norris. Norris' most popular role is Cosmo from The Fairly Oddparents. He also voices Jack Smith from American Dad.
DCU cred: voiced Batman in the "DC Super Friends" online cartoon special.

ager says...
Max, as I prefer it, is almost exactly smack in the middle of the 2.

Season 2-26 episodes

Over-arching theme: the Rogues battle the Secret Society of Super-villains throughout the season.

New teammate:
-(Professor) Zoom
Bio:
Eobard Thawne, decades in the future, started out as a fan of the Flash. After gaining super-speed by replicating the electro-chemical bolt that gave Barry Allen his powers, he traveled backward in time after confronting Max Mercury, using the Speed Force, to meet his hero.

His adoration becomes borderline psychotic. He dubs himself Professor Zoom.

His obsession weirds out the rest of the team. It comes off as very funny to the audience, though.

Flix says...
Doug Lawrence (Fillburt in Rocko's Modern Life, Plankton on Spongebob Squarepants). I picture a more sinister version of his Fillburt voice, with the same kind of fanboyish zeal Stephen Furst gave for Fanboy on Freakazoid.

New hero:
-Jessie Quick
Bio:
It is not until years later, we find out that the effects of the hard water on Jonathan Chambers skipped him and were passed on to his daughter. The Rogues believe her to be Flash's girlfriend. She's very similar in personalty to B:TAS Batgirl.

Flix says...
Mae Whitman
DCU cred: Batgirl/Barbara Gordon on "Batman: The Brave and the Bold", Wonder Girl/Cassandra Sandsmark and Stephanie Brown on "Young Justice".

ager says...
Thanks to my niece, I'm very familiar with Whitman's Tinkerbell and believe that, if she were to use that voice, she'd nail this role.

***1 episode
-Green Lantern/Hal Jordan
Bio:
The typical personality one would expect from Jordan.

Flix says...
Brian Bloom
DCU cred: Rip Hunter, Captain Atom, Iron of the Metal Men, and the Creeper on "Batman: The Brave and the Bold", among other DC shows and films.

ager says...
If he lost the Brooklyn accent, his Ultraman, from the Crisis on Two Earths animated movie, is dead on perfect for Hal.

-Wonder Woman
Bio:
A true Amazon, warrior princess. Barry is shocked to see how much of a badass she is. The Rogues are (not so) strangely attracted to her as she beats them down.

Flix says...
Morena Baccarin
DCU cred: Black Canary on "Justice League Unlimited", the Cheetah on "Batman: The Brave and the Bold".

ager says...
The beauty has voiced both Black Canary and Cheetah. She's yet another coup for the show, if she played the warrior princess.

...Garrick (re-)joins the fight--he's still got it... sort of.

+The Secret Society of Super-villains
-Lex Luthor
Flix says...
Kelsey Grammer

ager says...
And that right there is the reason I sought out Flix. How fantastic is that choice?

-Felix Faust
Flix says...
Armin Shimerman
DCU cred: Psycho-Pirate, the Guardians of the Universe, "Prof" Haley of the Challengers of the Unknown, and the Calculator on Batman: TB&TB.

ager says...
The Trek alumni is also a Buffy alumni; the latter being the show I know him from. He is also the voice of 5 different characters from Batman: TB&TB. I love it!

-Poison Ivy
Flix says...
Vanessa Marshall

ager says...
Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman, MJ Watson, Black Canary, Black Widow... I'd like to see her spin Ivy a little differently this go around. She's more than capable.

-Cheetah
Flix says...
Alyssa Milano
DCU cred: voiced Poison Ivy on "Young Justice", Amee Brenner in "DC Showcase: The Spectre".

ager says...
An odd choice, but I'd never dismiss an opportunity to hear one of my longest Hollywood crushes.

-Killer Frost
Grey DeLisle
DCU cred: voice roles on JLU, B&TB, and other DC shows and movies.

ager says...
It's her voiceover work as Asajj Ventress on Star Wars: The Clone Wars that needs to be duplicated here.

-Deadshot
Flix says...
Ben Browder
DCU cred: voiced Bat Lash on JLU, most recently played Ted Gaynor (a character from the Blackhawk comics) on "Arrow".

ager says...
The Farscape and Stargate star provides the eagle-eyed villain with a sharp tongue.

-Major Disaster
Flix says...
Tom Kenny (SpongeBob himself)
DCU cred: Plastic Man and others on TB&TB, the Penguin on "The Batman".

ager says..
I'm not familiar with his Curtis impression. Not knowing that I'd like to hear him tackle Disaster in much the same way he does Captain America on the Superhero Squad or as the narrator from Powerpuff Girls.

-(A pretty big version of) Metallo (think of the DC Universe Classics Build-A-Figure)
Flix says...
Brad Garrett
DCU cred: voiced Lobo and Bibbo Bibbowski in the DCAU.

ager says...
Garrett brings me back to 2 Stupid Dogs and way back to Rock n' Wrestling. Robert from Everybody Loves Raymond has a crazy deep voice and would be great as the classic, bulky villain.

Season 3-26 episodes

Over-arching theme: The team is at odds with Gorilla Grodd in the 1st 13 episodes. Bottom line, Grodd hates humans.

Flix says...
Keith David
DCU cred: the Center in "Justice League: The New Frontier", Despero on "Justice League", Mongul on "Young Justice".

ager says...
The voice of Goliath from Gargoyles is a spectacular choice given the air of sophistication and intelligence hidden within his ultra deep tone.

Flix says...
The show needs a band of misfits that start another Rogues group, with Captain Cold's sister among them.

ager says...
Closing out the season, the Rogues find themselves up against a new group, outcasts not given enrollment opportunities into the Rogues. These outcasts demand respect and, to each member, a spot on the Rogues. If bumping an original member is what it takes, then so be it. When denied, they start, but ultimately fail at keeping together, another Rogues group they call The Revolution.

+The Revolution

-The Golden Glider
ager says...
Kristen Wiig of SNL fame also voices Lola Bunny in The Looney Tunes Show. She would be hysterical as the bumbling, jealous sister who leads the misfits into nothing good. I would love to see her and her fellow SNL cohort bickering like to children. The truth is that Cold doesn't have the heart to tell his sister her incompetence and immaturity are the reasons she doesn't qualify for the main Rogues team.

-(The) Top
ager says...
Vince Vaughn from DodgeBall can provide the fast-talking, trash-talking boyfriend of Glider with the necessary mouthpiece.

Flix says...
I recently watched the episode of Disney's Hercules where the Norse gods are featured, and he was a HILARIOUS Loki.

-Girder
ager says...
Fitting the slacker/goofball style of the team, Will Ferrell and his bigger than life voice would liven up the dummy of the group.

-Magenta
ager says...
Molly Shannon (SNL) plays the good girl gone (CRAZY!) bad, Magenta. Girder blunders big time when his attraction to her leads to an embarrassing loss for the new team.

-Rainbow Raider/Prism
ager says...
Steve Carell's crazy, angry personality will rise to the top as he performs Prism.

-The Turtle

ager says...
I could not think of a slower speaking, more obnoxious, seemingly dim-witted actor than Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder. Turtle such a loser that he makes the others look like A-list villains.

Flix says...
My alternative choice for the Turtle's VA would be Jon Lovitz. For some reason to me, in some artistic interpretations, the Turtle resembles Jay Sherman, the title character from "The Critic" (whom Lovitz played).

-(the new) Ragdoll (Peter Merkel, Jr.)
ager says...
Tim Conway, Jr., obviously.

The attempted entry of Jr. would reemphasize the rules and order of the Rogues:

"No Rogue may inherit another Rogue's identity (a "legacy" villain, for example) while the original still lives. Also, simply acquiring a former Rogue's costume, gear, or abilities is not sufficient to become a Rogue, even if the previous member is already dead."

Jr. thinks it's time daddy hang up tights and rest the double/triple joints.

Flix says...
If he can do to Ragdoll Jr. what Bud Cort did with Toyman in the DCAU, he's good to go.

Attempting to take over the Rogues is none other than--

Blacksmith
ager says...
Wendie Malick from Just Shoot Me has that sort of bitchy, raspy, angry sound to her voice. That's important because, unlike the others on the Revolution, she belongs. She's a true badass and eventually takes charge of the Rogues only to learn that Cold doesn't think a woman belongs on the team (in reality, he thinks she's too good and may want to do away with him, unlike the real reason he felt Golden Glider shouldn't be on the team). He uses the 'woman' excuse to let her down easy, costing himself and his team the membership of the very capable Blacksmith. She settles on running the underbelly of Central City and promises to leave them alone if they stay out of her way.

Flix says...
DCU cred: Dr. Price in the Batman Beyond episode "Joyride", Omnira on "Static Shock".

New hero:
-Kid Flash
Bio:
Relate him to, say, Spider-Man, in personality.

Flix says...
Sam Lerner (Zak Saturday on The Secret Saturdays)

ager says...
He's also the voice of Chowder in Monster House, not to mention a stint as Malcolm's (in the Middle) mother-smothered best friend. His excitable energy matches well with young Wally.

****In 1 episode
The team battles the Joker, a villain that goes against everything they stand for. He tries to kill them for not allowing him to join. When that fails he tries to kill many of Central City's residents.

Flix says...
Johnny Lee Miller (of Elementary fame). His take on Holmes is just so crazy (outside "The Adventure of the Deranged Detective") that he'd be a great Joker.

ager says...
Matt Frewer
I know, I know. I've got nerve going for a different pick, but the voice of Jackal from Gargoyles, well, that to me is the best possible actor to create a new, yet familiar, Joker.

+The Royal Flush Gang
Flix says...
For this iteration of the Royal Flush Gang, I picture a more sophisticated band of thieves, sort of like "Ocean's Eleven". They're dressed similarly to 50's-era swingers a la the Rat Pack, with their card suits present as lapels.

The episode featuring them could have the Rogues competing with them for the biggest heist in Las Vegas. The Rogues try to prove that the blue-collar super-criminal (though the Shade calls himself otherwise) is just as good as the white-collar kind.

Call this casting a "Wings" mini-reunion:
-Tim Daly as the voice of King (the leader, and a veteran con-man)
-Farrah Forke as the voice of Queen (electronics/surveillance expert)
-Steven Weber as the voice of Jack (explosives expert)
-Thomas Haden Church as the voice of Ace (mechanic)
-Amy Yasbeck as the voice of Ten (disguise expert)

*Fittingly, Daly, Forke, and Church have DCU experience, with Daly being one of the best voices of Superman, Forke being the first actress to voice Big Barda of the New Gods, and Church playing Killer Moth on Teen Titans.

ager says...
Damn, that's a good idea.

*The Flash-trio return.

-The Ludlows
Flix says...
*A minor query about the Ludlows-- you (ager) sure you want to put a family of psycho-killers on a kids show?

ager says...
Yup. Downplay or imply that aspect.

Season 4-26 episodes

****In 1 episode
Abra Kadabra beats the Flash trio. Amazed by the new villain, the Rogues track him down and offer a spot on the team after laying down the moral rules, to which he agrees. Unbeknownst to the group, Abra has been mind controlling them to benefit himself only. He is kicked out by the end, forbidden to return.

Flix says...
Nestor Carbonell
DCU cred: El Diablo on "Justice League Unlimited". Outside that, he's had experience with the 'spooferhero' set as Batmanuel on the live-action version of "The Tick".

ager says...
Carbonell has chalked up a few voice roles over the years, most notably JLU's El Diablo. Carbonell isn't particularly a number 1 choice of mine however, I've never been a fan. Check out Bates Motel for his latest. Great show.

****2 episodes later, Doctor Alchemy, formerly Mister Element, is denied membership because he's completely nuts.

One of the Rogues says they got a message from a guy named Merlin but Cold quickly says no more magicians after the mishap with Abra Kadabra. Now everyone wants to be a part of the team.

Flix says...
-Carlos Alazraqui

ager says...
Carlos makes 3 voice actors from the very funny Rocko's Modern Life. I'm fine with that. That's old school fun right there.

*****1 episode
-Max Mercury returns to antagonize our stars.

+JSA
The team arrives in Keystone/Central for the opening of a JSA-themed wing at the Flash Museum, which the Rogues plan to crash.

-Hourman
Flix says...
Will Friedle
DCU cred: the lead in "Batman Beyond, Blue Beetle/Jaime Reyes on TB&TB, Fang on Teen Titans.
*Fittingly enough, in the episode, it's revealed he's been dating Jesse Quick.

ager says...
When I hear Friedle, thanks to Batman Beyond and Thundercats, I have a certain level of respect for his character. It would be nice to label Hourman with said respect.

-Mister Terrific
Flix says...
Phil Morris
DCU cred: Martian Manhunter on Smallville, Vandal Savage on JL/JLU, Jonah Hex and Fox of the Terrible Trio on Batman: TB&TB, Saint Walker on Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

ager says...
The ol' Oreo eater from Smallville would be a good Terrific based on his fan approval as Kal-El's guide.

-Sandman
Flix says...
Liam O'Brien
*I was partially inspired by his voicing another very 'sandy' character, Gaara of the Sand Village on Naruto.

ager says...
What an obscure choice. I realize now that he is the voice of Angel, Nightcrawler and Nitro from Wolverine and the X-Men. If it were my call, I'd roll the dice and let him find his voice, as long as he channels a small amount of Rorschach.

-Stargirl, the team rookie
Flix says...
Alyson Stoner

ager says...
Even though this show would predate Young Justice (a show criminally and prematurely canceled), I'll reference her talents as Batgirl as the best example of what she could bring to the table.

*Can't have Stargirl without STRIPE, so....
Flix says...
Clancy Brown
DCU cred: Surely, you all know Mr. Brown's contributions to DC animation, right?
Anyway, I thought it's time he played a good guy in the DCU for once.

-Wildcat
Flix says...
Dennis Franz

ager says...
Way to pull out the dark horse, Flix. Franz is a remarkably different choice, having never voiced a cartoon before. I, however, have no doubt the gritty NYPD Blue actor would be a stand out as Wildcat.

Flix adds...
Franz actually has done voiceover work before--he voiced himself playing Homer Simpson in a FOX made-for-TV movie in the Simpsons episode "Homer Badman" (where Homer is accused of sexual harrassment). (He'd also be the second Dennis to voice Wildcat, with the first being Dennis Farina in JLU.)

+The team battles another version of the SSoSV
-Ultra-Humanite
Flix says...
John O'Hurley (Elaine's boss on Seinfeld) or Jonathan Frakes (Cpt. Riker on Star Trek: TNG)
O'Hurley's not without comic book cred--he voiced the Grandmaster on The Super Hero Squad Show (a nod to his time as a game-show host). If he's not your cup of tea, my alternative choice is Jonathan Frakes, who also voiced a Marvel character on The Super Hero Squad Show, the High Evolutionary.

ager says...
Again, I think a better voice, and one that can still keep the comedic tone O'Hurley perfects, would be...
James Woods, the voice of Hades from Disney's Hercules.

-Solomon Grundy
Flix says...
Kevin Michael Richardson

ager says...
From Panthro to Kilowag to... Grundy, KMR is perfect for everyone's favorite sewer-dwelling, suit-wearing criminal.

He'd do right to bring the humor of his American Dad! character.

-Slade Wilson
Flix says...
Gary Sinise

ager says...
1st, let's call Slade Terminator, if we legally can. The problem with calling him Deathstroke in Teen Titans was the allusion to death, so let's opt to refer to him as something other than Slade to separate from TT.

2nd, Sinise is a fantastic, unexpected choice. Sinise can play both badass and debonair at the same time, hence my wanting him to play Lex in my live action Superman '05 revision. He has a great deep, tough guy voice and would be fun to use since he is attached to the live action Lex from which this spun.

-Cheshire
Flix says...
Maggie Q (Nikita)

ager says...
I'm guessing this originated from the idea of wanting her as the live version; that's always a good place to start when casting a voice actor. DC does it often.

-Blockbuster
Flix says...
Dee Bradley Baker

ager says...
Among his most popular, Klaus from American Dad!, DDB has voiced about 1 character in every modern cartoon (practically). He voiced Sandman, Lizard and Carnage in The Spectacular Spider-Man and, most importantly, was Blockbuster in Justice League Unlimited. Let one of the best voice actors in the business, that no one really knows, reprise the role.

-Floronic Man
Flix says...
Robert Englund (Freddy Kruger)
DCU cred: Felix Faust on JL, the Riddler on "The Batman", Warden Myglom on GL:TAS.

ager says...
Without even hearing this, I'd have him return a few times just to hear it again and again.

-Scarecrow
Flix says...
Peter MacNicol
DCU cred: Chronos on JLU, Man-Bat on "The Batman"

ager says...
I was shocked to see his extensive voice work, I mean, I know who he is, I've seen a ton of his movies and always enjoyed him as the creepy guy but, I was very impressed to see that he's lent his voice to over a dozen characters. He's a great pick for a creepy Scarecrow. I'd flesh out Scarecrow and give him a larger role within the team, make him the one that creeps out the others. I'd do that based on the actor Flix chose.

-Bizarro
Flix says...
James Arnold Taylor
DCU cred: MULTIPLE characters on "The Brave and the Bold"

ager says...
Wow, after youtubing voice talents of James Arnold Taylor, I was amazed to think someone was that talented. Hell, he could just do the whole show himself and render every choice here moot. Check it out, it's worth it.

*****Grodd returns to help the Rogues by beating Ultra-Humanite personally. Bottom line, Grodd hates Flash and wants his enemies to live to fight him another day.

Season 5-26 episodes

The team systematically takes down several heroes and inadvertently causes the formation of both the JLA and the Teen Titans.

****1 episode each

-Superman
Flix says...
Mark Valley
DCU cred: the lead role on "Human Target", Superman in "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Pt. 2"

ager says...
Like Maggie Q, Valley may be another live dream cast that won't come to pass. The next best thing is to utilize his voice. It would seem that Flix is using that as a blue print for this JLA.

-Aquaman
Flix says...
Kevin Sorbo
I used him in my "JLA/Avengers" fancast.

-Batman
Fix says...
John Hamm (Mad Men)
*This casting also doubles as a teaser for an upcoming fancast of my own: an animated adaptation of 1987's "Batman: Son of the Demon".

-Martian Manhunter
ager says...
William Forsythe is possibly best known these days for starring in Boardwalk Empire and The Mob Doctor. He is one of those trusted actors, best known for playing tough guys much in the same way as Michael Madsen. He has a very deep, subtle voice and can take the green Martian in a different direction.

-Green Arrow and Black Canary

Flix says...
Jeremy Piven as the voice of Green Arrow
DCU cred: Elongated Man on JLU

ager says...
I hate Piven, I just hate Piven. For some reason, I'm liking Gorge Clooney here. I keep coming back to him and I can't say for sure why. I also think it would be funny for the worst cinematic Batman to redeem himself behind the voice of the Batman-opposite Green Arrow. I would love to see a back and forth between the 2, referencing the Shumacher disaster.

Flix says...
Since Piven's a bit of a red flag for ager here, my alternative choice would be...
Patrick Dempsey (who was still just doing TV then), I think he'd have a decent voice for the emerald archer, especially for the uber-lefty he is.

Flix says...
Dina Meyer as the voice of Black Canary
DCU cred: Oracle on "Birds of Prey"

ager says...
The Birds of Prey actress is again, a very smart way to pay tribute to the many attempts of DC to bring attention to the characters.

(Returning)
-Wonder Woman
-Green Lantern
-Flash and Jessie Quick

With each hero captured, their sidekicks must save them. Kid Flash and Robin gather them.

*Kid Flash returns.

-Robin
Flix says...
Devon Werkheiser
*Do note, I tweaked the Robin pic as, the way I see it, Robin's costume in the show would be a combo of his regular one and the Earth-Two version's (hence the yellow legs), because even I would think the kids seeing this cartoon would find the bare legs weird. (Though they did show them in Brave and the Bold.)

ager says...
7 years ago Werkheiser, best known from Ned's Declassified, voiced Casper in Scare School. I bring that up so that voice can be used as a template for Robin. Somewhere between that 15 year old voice of his then and the deeper voice he has now lay the perfect voice for the boy wonder.

-Supergirl
ager says...
I'd go for Lacey Chabert. You may know her as Eliza Thornberry, the original Meg Griffin or Zatanna from Young Justice.

-Wonder Girl/Donna Troy
Flix says...
Ashley Johnson
*If Troy had been in the Brave and the Bold episode "Sidekicks Assemble!", Johnson would've been my choice to voice her.

ager says...
Johnson graduates from Terra in Teen Titans to Donna Troy, the original Wonder Girl.

-Aqualad/Tempest
Flix says...
Sean Marquette

-Speedy/Arsenal/Roy Harper
Flix says...

Jack DeSena (Sokka on Avatar: The Last Airbender)
DCU cred: voiced Jimmy Olsen on "The Batman".
*I stick with Speedy since this is supposed to be during the sidekicks' pre-Titans days.

ager says...
Shia LaBeouf. Shia has an oddly deep voice that adds, or could add, layers to Arsenal. I only opted to find someone other than DeSena because I'm not familiar with him.

-Cyborg and Beast Boy
(2 other like-minded young heroes willing to help)

Flix says...
Tyler James Williams
DCU cred: Firestorm/Jason Rusch on Batman: TB&TB

ager says...
The Everybody Hates Chris star is such a great pick; I don't know how Flix does it.

Flix says...
Nathan Kress

ager says...
The iCarley star has the funny down pat and would add a very fun element to the team as they face our stars, the Rogues.

Flix says....
Thank you all for checking out our first collaboration! As soon as I've recovered from this one, expect the next ones: Shazam! and Hawkworld.

Holy moly Flix thx for posting this with amazing pics. I'm so glad for the way this turned out. I can't wait for Shazam! Hopefully I can post that one for us.

Can't wait for '87 Demon starring Hamm.

@ager
And thank you for kick-starting this collaboration in the first place! For that '87 Demon, I cast Armand Assante as the voice of Ra's Al Ghul.

Do this with the style of Young Justice and I promise to watch it. Good article, man.

@Odin
ager stated that it's supposed to be a bit more kid-friendly, hence the idea of using the art style of the Legion of Super-Heroes toon.

Hey, sorry for not commenting sooner. This is a pretty big cast, and I don't know much about Rogues, but I'll see if I can judge properly.

- Nice to see Sudeikis get some love around here. I don't know if he's universally loved or not, but using him is ballsy. Same with Seth Green, but I think with Robot Chicken, he isn't too much a pariah.
- I seen Morena Baccarin thrown around as Wonder Woman. Live-action or DCAU, she has the voice at least.
- Wow, I didn't know Kristen Wiig voiced Lola Bunny on The Looney Tunes Show. I haven't watched it much, is it a good show?
- Same with Vince Vaughn, I didn't know he voiced a character on that Hercules animated series.
- The SNL vets and Steve Carrell fill their roles nice enough.
- Good to see Nestor Carbonell plucked from The Dark Knight into a bigger role.
- Alyson Stoner? Is she liked around here, or is she a C-word? On the topic of Young Justice being canceled... what else is new?
- I see Flix used my Corset Demon pick from my Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt fancast for a role here. Well played, pally!
- Wow, I wish I would've thought of Gary Sinise as Deathstroke for my Injustice: Gods Among Us. Somehow, that is genius casting right there.
- I think Dee Bradley Baker is well-known around here based on the work you've described.
- Ooh, I recognize Peter MacNicol. He played Lennox on 24. It didn't hit me until now. I think he'd work for Scarecrow.
- I don't care for the two picks for Green Arrow. They just don't fit in my eyes. But I don't think Jeremy Piven's that big of an asshole, ager.
- Lacey Chabert is cute!
- So I see Shia LaBeouf appearing in fancasts. Speedy could be a great role for him to sink into.
- Does TJW have a deep voice for Cyborg? I'd use the Teen Titans voice actor Khary Payton again. He was good!
- My other pick for Iceman makes it on here! Great job, Nathan Kress could use a good voice gig!

Overall, a great job here. How about one of you guys comment on my fancasts depending on if you visited.

- Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt
- Injustice: Gods Among Us
- Titan Maximum

@RoadDogXXIV
James Woods was actually ager's idea, mine was either John O'Hurley or Jonathan Frakes.

And that was a funny Hercules episode Vaughn was in--it had Garrison Keillor (NPR's A Prairie Home Companion) as the voice of Odin.

RoadDogXXIV@

Thx for dropping by I love ur extensive input

Looney Tubes is cute but not taylored for a crowd over 12 I'd say.

Why would anyone have bad thins to say about Stoner?

Flix@ gets all the credit for both Carbinal and the very awesome

Liven is an arrogant a hole from what I've seen

Chabert is sooooo cute, ill say she's hot.

I've always liked LaBeouf

I stopped by Injustice and it wouldn't let me leave a stinking comment I tried 4 times. I am not familiar with the other 2 so I must've skipped then ill check em out tomorrow

Thanks again
