The Amazing Spider-Man Reboot/Remake/ Resomething Fan Cast

The Amazing Spider-Man Reboot/Remake/ Resomething Fan Cast

UPDATE I finally try my hand at the Spidey reboot thing.I'm pretty sure all my choices are original. I gotta say, my pick for MJ is the best out of the bunch.

Like most of you guys, I’ve been thinking about the casting possibilities for the Spidey reboot for weeks. I based m y choices on a 60/40 ratio of looks and acting experience. I’ll add some more info later on, school just started and I’m knee deep in assignments. Till then, here are my picks for the new cast.

Supporting Characters

Liz Allen – A high school classmate of Peter Parker when they attended Midtown High School together, and a minor love interest of Parker and Flash Thompson.

Shailene Woodley

Flash Thompson – Star high school football player who mercilessly bullies "Puny Parker." Ironically, Flash greatly admires Spider-Man.

Ed Westwick

Cocky and brash, Ed has enough experience playing that kind of character.

May Parker – Aunt and adoptive mother of Peter Parker. She is unaware he is also Spider-Man.

Blythe Danner

I want to see a slightly younger Aunt May. From what I remember of the comics,
Peter always worried about his ailing aunt, but that doesn’t mean she has to be old and frail. I think the trauma of becoming a widow and a case of cancer would be enough and something more people can relate to.

Ben Parker – Peter’s uncle whose tragic demise was the catalyst for Peter to use his Spider-Man persona for good.

Albert Finny

I just watched The Bourne Ultimatum and I have to say that he has the presence and the voice to spout the legendary line, “With great power. . . ”.

Harry Osborn – The son of industrialist Norman Osborn and Peter Parker’s best friend.

Jake Abel

Norman Osborn – A wealthy industrialist who, after taking a serum that increased his physical abilities and intellect but drove him insane, adopted a Halloween-themed goblin costume to terrorize New York City and Spider-Man.

Neal McDonough

Neal definitely has the acting chops to pull this character off in a series of films. Plus, I think if you give him red hair he would look spot on as Norman. I envision Norman turning into the Green Goblin at the end of the first movie, therefore he's not one of the villains.

Eddie Brock - A friend and mentor of Peter Parker who also works as a lab assistant to Dr. Curt Connors.

Daniel Cudmore

Just because his tenure with Fox's X franchise is done, it doesn't mean he should go off into the CBM sunset. At 6 ft 8 inches and a solid (really freaking solid) 255 lbs, I think he fits former star quarterback Eddie Brock pretty damn well. He turned 29 years old this year, but I don't think that age difference matters for this particular role.

Villains

Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard – One of Peter’s mentors who ingests a formula containing reptilian DNA in an effort to re-grow his arm which was severed in a war zone. The formula causes him to become one of Spider-Man’s enemies, the Lizard.

Kevin McKidd

After I saw him brilliantly play an Army surgeon on Grey’s Anatomy (I know it’s coming, shut up) I just can’t picture anyone else in the role.

Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven the Hunter – A maniacal big game hunter who has bested Spider-Man on several occasions.

Clive Owen

I’m a Clive Owen fan but I just couldn’t picture him playing the part . . . until I saw this photo. Dead to rights, I think he’s the perfect Kraven.

The Big Three

Gwen Stacy – Not just a love interest, she was Peter’s first real girlfriend. Her death during Spider-Man’s battle with the Green Goblin was a pivotal moment in Peter’s life and shouldn’t be ignored in the new franchise.

Candice Accola

She’s a well spoken young actress who would do a fine job portraying the intelligent Gwen.

Mary Jane Watson - She’s the girl next door, if the girl next door happened to be a part time fashion model and undeniable knockout who is completely out of your league.

Rachele Brooke Smith

I just had to include a picture of MJ so you can see the uncanny resemblance:

Peter Parker/Spider-Man – The brilliant teenager who was the victim of a spider bite that changed his life. Known for using wise cracks and one liners against his enemies as a defense mechanism to hide his fear.

You’re not going to like this

I mean, really not

Zac Efron

If you’re still reading this, you’re probably curious of the reasons I chose him above the rest of qualified actors in his age group out there.

1) He has already successfully carried a major film franchise.

2) He has more acting experience than the majority of guys his age in the industry.

3) He is the only actor I’ve seen associated with the role that would undoubtedly bring in big box office numbers on his name alone.

4) All personal preferences aside, his resemblance to Peter Parker is undeniable.

My distaste for High School Musical doesn’t make me blind to the fact that the kid can adapt to his various roles easily (Me and Orson Wells, 17 Again). Zac is a very good young actor. I think it’s rather funny that most guys try to knock him because of the singing and dancing he did in HSM. Maybe they’re forgetting all the other actors that started out their careers in the same manner; for example John Travolta, Christopher Walken, and Patrick Swayze. When it comes to casting this particular role it's all about picking an actor that fits the most criteria needed for the character. Efron has more pros than cons in his favor. I think with the proper direction he would be a solid Spidey. The only other two I like for the part already have franchises they are currently working on.

And that's it. I haven't looked at anyone's Spidey fan casts recently because I didn't want to be set on an actor for a certain role just because someone else mentioned them. If some of these were your picks as well, trust me, it's by coincidence. I'm still looking for a J. Jonah Jameson and Eddie Brock so stay tuned.

Efron really isn't that bad an actor, people just can't get over the HSM thing (boy, Lee's going to have a BALL with this one). That said, I think he's a little too well-known and too big a name that he might overshadow the character. I still say Logan Lerman would be perfect. He's got the look, body-type, isn't too big a name, and definitely has the acting talent to pull it off.

I can totally see why one would pick Efron, it's just that for me, a lesser-known actor is ideal.

I haven't heard of your Liz/Flash picks (like I've said, I don't know many teen actors/actresses) but they look the part.

Very good Uncle Ben and Aunt May choices. I still like Helen Mirren for May (she's 2 years younger than Danner) though :)

I've only seen Abel in an episode of Supernatural, and he handled himself very well in it, I can see him as Harry. Still got to go with Yelchin however.

Pretty decent Norman

GREAT Curt Connors

Excellent Kraven, I prefer Gerard Butler though, Clive is definitely my second choice

Accola looks like Gwen for sure, what's she been in?

Damn, based on looks alone, your MJ choice is the best since MEW. But, can she act?

Bwhahahhahhhahahhaha!!! N.......O EFRON..... ever!

MULT @ Your right though man on one thing, mighty fine pic of MJ, it is the best out the bunch, but like TY said, can she act??

Anyways not lovin' KRAVEN, but the rest are quality choices dude!!

clive owen is also a great choice for kraven

zac efron im sure has the ability to be a good parker/spiderman , i just dont prefer him

i like albert finny as uncle ben

i dont know about kevin mckidd, hes a good actor though

dont know much about westwick so why not. and for mj it could be a stretch but i dont see why she wouldnt be able to pull it off, ive only seen her in bring it on

Good picks Multi

I've said all along that Efron would be a decent choice. I am concerned about any tween baggage he might carry, meaning they would change things to fit his pop idol image.

Don't know any of the young actors (except Efron) so like the others said, it all comes down to can they act. They all are dead ringers, esp. MJ pick.

Funny this came out today, because if Efron had been listed in a fancast before this evening I would have had an aneurism, but tonight was movie night at the Nero house and Mrs. wanted to see 17 Again (She was a huge Friends fan.) Grudgingly I watched it and you know... the movie was crap, but Efron wasn't half bad. I had always dismissed him as a tweeniebopper, but he's coming along nicely as an actor.

And ever since Millers Crossing I bow at the alter of Albert Finny, I love that guy. Perfect Uncle Ben. And a right bit of a bad ass when he wants to be: The Old Man's Still and Artisit with a Thompson, indeed.
***CAUTION VERY VIOLENT***

If you've never seen Miller's Crossing go rent it tonight. One of the Coen Brother's best.

Don't like Efron for Spidey! Never have never will!
He is too pretty and perfect to be the every day
genius boy that Peter Parker is! Efron is the kind
of perfect guy all the girls want and it would be
unrealistic for him to be Parker who is an everyday
kid who somehow gets lucky enough for the perfect
model-girl MJ to love him! Efron is absolutely wrong
for Peter parker!

All the other cast are great!!!

Peter has never been a not-handsome guy. He's always been good looking and handsome. It's his shy and introverted personality that makes him not so popular. So, by that, Efron isn't too pretty or good-looking. A lot of people seem to assume that Peter has to look nerdy, when, in fact, he looks quite the opposite. No, he isn't football-star stud, but he's good looking guy.

I still don't want him for the role, but Efron does look the part for Peter.

You know I'm don't like the reboot idea, but man @MULT you really hate it.I don't like to say bad things, but this is bad fancast.I don't like the actors that is your choices. But Efron?Efron?I have see his movies and he can't act.Efron is just a pretty boy.

Peter is a handsome guy. It's all because of his "geeky" personality.

And back then they had limited tools to work with when drawing characters. And if you take away those tears, that Peter still looks like he'd be a good-looking guy.

Point is, most drawings that I've seen of Peter make him good-looking. At the very least, most modern drawings.

Decent cast MULTI! I have my own choices but I like the majority of your picks especially your Harry and Gwen! Your MJ is good but I have her lined up for a completely different role..! :)

I really dont like Efron for Peter though - I've never seen HSM but I have seen plenty of clips of the guy in other movies and I really cant see him making a good Peter!

And hey, if you're looking for a JJJ you should go with James Remar - he's the best choice for the role IMO!
DDD
DDD - 1/30/2010, 4:08 AM
Tyler@ Efron is not lean or skinny!
He's muscular and pretty! There's handsome
and there's pretty! Efron is a pretty-boy
model! Peter is not! Efron could play one
of the young muscular superhero-looking
characters but a pretty boy is not right
for Peter Parker! Peter is lithe and slim.
Efron is beefy! If you don't know the
difference then I can't explain it to you!

I'm not trying to say Efron isn't a good
actor 'cause I think he is! But he's simply
not right for Peter Parker! McGuire has
the right frame for Peter but Efron doesn't!

DDD - 1/30/2010, 4:14 AM
I'm not trying to crack on Poni@!
The rest of his cast here is great in my
thinking! He's totally on the right track
for MJ! Wish he woulda whispered in Raimi's
ear back when his Sidey was first being
cast!

Thank you MULTI!!!!! everything you said is exactly what ive been saying or thinking. about efron and about peters looks. couldnt have said it better. agree 100%. best spidey pick ive seen also. and im not even really an efron fan. im a spidey fan.

i love that you mentioned the swayze, and travoltas! hell, hugh jackman runs around singing and dancing to. and hes our damn wolverine! not to mention all the others that started out that way too.

i wasnt always too sure about you multi, but now i can truly say " i belive in multipurposeponi!" if i had rich friends id throw you a fundraiser. with those imaginary friends, you wouldnt need another cent, ever

Seriously SPIDER-MAN THE MUSICAL can [frick] off! And so can EFRON! : P

DDD @ Elizabeth Winstead is perfect for MJ, but she's too old for this 90210 bollocks lol. She my pick too, damn its a shame, i really do like MULTI's MJ pick up there, looks the part hands down totally for a teen MJ!!
DDD
DDD - 1/30/2010, 6:25 AM
Leee@ you're right on all accounts!
I wanna see a Spiderman 4!
I don't care if its with a new director,
star and starlett! I really wanted to see
some more of the kind of Spidey & villains
that were in Raimi's 1 & 2!
Batmanknight
Batmanknight - 1/30/2010, 8:44 AM
@Multi-DUDE YOU TOTALLY READ MY MINE

I have Efron in my Spider-Man cast that i'm doing. People forget that Travolta and Kevin Bacon. Two really big action stars used to dance and sing.

The MJ pick looks really good too, but i haven't seen her act before so i don't know how good she would do.

@LEE and DDD-guys i agree that Spider-Man 4 would have been a great thing to see. But at least this way we get to see a new take on the franchise. I think Raimi was too into the action and not enough into story. Every story was the same and Spider-Man 4 probably would have turned out the same way.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 1/30/2010, 9:54 AM
BatmanKnight @ People tend to forget he was in [frick]ing high school the [frick]ing musical lol, i'd rather a million Raimi sequels than have a Ultimate rebooting EFRON spidey starer!!!

HELL NO.

DDD @ Exactly dude, a CONTINUATION Reboot is the much better way to go!

ecksmanfan - 1/30/2010, 10:59 AM
@Multi- Ballsy dude! I like the cast for the most part. As far as Efron goes, I don't think he'd make a horrible Peter. I think he's fully capable of pulling the role off. My only concern is whether he's too big of a name, like Tyler mentioned.

All in all, not bad.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/30/2010, 11:11 AM
Guys, comic books don't do ugly! Characters are all drawn handsome or beautiful, a good 98% of the time, its just how its done. Parker is supposed to be average looking..just normal, average, doesn't stand out one way or the other, either way, it doesn't really matter because its a movie, not the damn comic!!

Multi, the actors I know I like for the roles. I have actually never seen Effron act so can't comment on that. Don't know the girl for MJ but she certainly looks the part..yum! McDonagh can be pretty good, but also pretty bad(Street Fighter *Shudder*) Finney and Owen spot on.
Ryden
Ryden - 1/30/2010, 12:00 PM
@Tyler- Actually Ditko purposley made Peter a pretty average looking guy, he didn't want him to be handsome...that only cahnged after Ditko left Spidey, then they made him good looking.

Anyway...on the cast, I'd say you did a good job Multi..except for your Spidey choice. Zac Efron is far to "pretty" to be Peter and he's not a good actor. I've seen Me and Orson Welles and I was hoping he'd surprise me. But I was sadly mistaken, he sucked..big time. He was just so boring and uninteresting, where as everyone else in that film was great.

And I understand your Travolta argument but Travolta proved himself a good actor, Efron hasn;t, and when he tried he failed.

I'll give you props for showing that choice though because a lot of people will be quick to base your whole fan-cast on that choice alone. So besides Efron the cast is very good. :)

Pefect Cast @Poni, except for Efron. Its not just cause of HSM, I just think he's a shitty actor... but when I finally see Me and Orson Welles will I rule him out or not. I gotta say, what a PERFECT!!!! pick for MJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont care great casting man im over the tobey mcaguire whatever. the only thing i did not like about your casting was there was no doc ock in the remake casting, and that is a must.like the conners, and kraven, even norman and could see effron as spiderman, but doc ock has to be in there too.i would love to see more doc ock,and some doc conners turning into the lizard, and kraven hunting him and spiderman down.

MULTI @ Yeah he can play in that image comics cbm movie no ones ever heard of called FIRE lol!

Seriously though, you knew i wouldn't like the PP pick as ive been posting his mug with my anti-reboot campaign lol all over other SPIDEY articles! : P

Still i like the rest dude, nice one!!

And your totally right about the kid from LIGHTNING THIEF & KICK ASS, no way either of them two can play SPIDEY with being starers in their own franchises!
1chris2
1chris2 - 1/31/2010, 6:28 AM
multi im just saying that the doctor should be in the film not him as the villain. build on him, and then in a sequel have him turn bad. this is a remake right,or a reboot? if it a reboot/sequel then doc ock is dead or he could come back later. anyways great casting again and i agree with you effron could really work.
Ryden
Ryden - 1/31/2010, 7:00 AM
@Multi- It's not just that man but he's just not right for the part. Both in looks and acting skills. I'd much prefer Emile Hirsch or even Logan Lerman to Efron. besides he already has his own heroic type franchise on the horizon, he's gonna be Johnny Quest and in a movie based off a graphic novel called Fire. Plus Sony wouldn;t choose him because they know that the majority of fan-boys out there will freak out.

If Efron were a better actor I'd certainly consider him, but he's just not got the chops.
