PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 May Be A Soft Reboot; Orlando Bloom In Talks To Return
While promoting the last Hobbit adventure, Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, took a few moments to share an update on the upcoming fifth installment in Disney's billion-dollar Pirates franchise. Come check it out!
While promoting his latest release, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, star Orlando Bloom took a few moments to share an update on Disney's upcoming fifth Pirates of the Caribbean adventure. While he doesn't confirm that he'll actually be in the film, he does say that talks for him to return are currenly ongoing, which means a return is more likely than not. Bloom also goes on to add that the fifth film may in fact be a soft reboot of sorts shifting the focus from the characters of the original trilogy to a whole new set of characters, including his son, who we caught a glimpse of during the post-credits scene in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Read Bloom's full comments below:
"I’m not entirely sure that [I'll be back] just yet, but there are talks," he said. "Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.
I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly."
If what Bloom said proves to be true, this may mean that the coveted role won by Brenton Thwaites (The Giver) may be that of Will Turner's son, which would also mean that the fifth film may take place more than a few (possibly 10-20) years after the third and fourth films ended. Take that last bit with a grain of salt as it is currently just speculation.
In another bit of Pirates 5 news, Variety has learned the names of five young actresses currently testing to be the love interest for Thwaites' character. The actresses are as follows: Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), Gabriella Wilde (Carrie), Jenna Thiam (The Returned), Alexandra Dowling (Game of Thrones), & Lucy Boynton (Miss Potter).
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is expected to hit theaters July 7, 2017 and will feature the return of Johnny Depp (Public Enemies) as Captain Jack Sparrow. New additions to the franchise include Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), who will play the villainous Captain Brand. The duo of Joachim Rønning & Espen Sandberg is set to direct.
