The Quest to Find Jonny Quest is Over

Looks like Zac Efron will be portraying Johnny Quest in the upcoming big screen live action movie. Dwayne Johnson is also eyeing a role.

Zac Efron has landed the role of Johnny Quest. This news has already ruffled feathers as Johnny was only 11 as the series progressed on TV. Hard core Johnny Quest fans are trying to piece together what type of film we will receive with johnny being in his lower twenties rather then a 11 year old boy?

Dwayne Johnson is eyeing for a piece of the franchise. If accepted Johnson would play a certain beefed up version of pilot Race Bannon.

The studio is also looking at changing the title of Johnny's first adventure on the big screen. The studio is worried that if they use "Johnny Quest" in the title the movie going audience will associate this film as being old and outdated as they did with Speedracer. As a result the studio is kicking around a few different titles for the upcoming movie.

Dan Mazeau has revamped the script.

For those of you that do not realize this movie is a comic book movie let me reassure you. A Johnny Quest comic book (a retelling of the first TV episode, "Mystery of the Lizards Men") was published by Gold Key Comics in 1964.

I actually have that johnny quest comic. Doesnt Zack play a 17 year old in 17again? Thats pretty close but yeah he should be at least kid age. Sucks that they really try to nail that wide demographic. If the character is really young, well, lets make him a little bit older. If he's 27, well, he might as well have a colostomy bag, make him 19!

THeyre gonna call this "Jimmy Danger, johnny quests stoner step brother" with Kal Penn as Haji.

This is absolute filth. Hollywood continues with their obsession to destroy everything original and cool that has ever been filmed or written.

The entire concept of the show was the adventures of two pre-teen boys, the scientist father of one of the boys, and the bodyguard assigned to protect them against enemies who would kidnap the boys to force the father to do their evil bidding.

In fairness, Jonny's age could be adjusted slightly, as it was in the Real Adventures back in the 90's. Jonny was older, but not so much older as to destroy the basic premise of the character. That said: a 20 year old man doesn't need a bodyguard. Unless he's a complete wuss, he's capable of defending himself. He's also going to approach a situation a LOT differently than an 11 year old boy will. The whole thing is as stupid as having a 30 year old man play Robin. Oh wait. They did that and it sucked.

I'm wondering if they will cast a white kid to play Hadji instead of using one of the boys from Slumdog Millionaire...

Hey TusconRican; that would be funny if they did that. Like Dragonball:evolution, this is a failure.

@ SpiderMan 209,Johnny Test was a good cartoon. However it wouldn't work as a movie. That is unless they release it straight to DVD.

Itll prob be more like Alex Rider. But yeah, youre right yeti588 it would be like spy kids if they used younger actors. lame.

JOHNNY TEST could work, if done Live-Action or even CGI! It has a bit of a following (maybe younger generation.) I was born in 76' and Johnny Quest was the sh*t for it's day, but frankly I never got into it like all the other kids my age.

Now I'm a Father and my kids introduced me to Johnny Test and got me hooked! In the right hands, and put out in time for a holiday release, Johnny Test has a shot! I think anyways. :)

What's the problem guys. Effron looks just right for JQ. Now, I've never seen him act, as I refuse to watch anything with 'High School' or 'Musical' in the title, or any combination thereof. Who are we kidding anyway. Jonny Quest sucks.

@SpiderMan209: LOL, that show is hilarious. My kid watches too. There are a lot of those childrens cartoons nowadays that are good. My daughter loves Sponge Bob... almost as much as I do. :0

i don't really like Zac Effron, but i have to admit,he's the best candidate to play Jonny Quest

does The Rock have to play every action hero these days? its cool and all,but someone else should play Race

as for Haji, either Kal Penn like KeepItReal said, even though he's working for the white house or something like that now,but if not him, then that kid from Slumdog Millionaire,he'd be perfect!

I also love the idea of a Johnny Test movie, but only if it's animated! That show cracks me up, but I don't see how they could do a live version of it that wasn't completely lame.

Well there goes another fond child hood memory.

I think Supermike may have been talking about the tv show from the 90's. I had some early cgi.

The only thing that could redeem this movie would be if they got someone like Liam Neeson to play old man Quest.

The Rock is Haji, on roids! It'd be better than him as Race.

Interesting news here. I am a fan of the old cartoon series. The action, the cool-as-hell music, and sometimes the bad guys would get knocked off. Once upon a time this was a saturday morning kids show. He may be to old now but I always felt George Clooney would be a great Roger(Race)Bannon the ultimate bodygaurd.

I dont mind having an older jonny quest, i grew up more with the real adventures of jonny quest when there older and stuff. I think a movie around that would be great, just dont use ZAC friggin EFRON as Jonny! very disappointing. I hope they play up the brotherly relationship between Jonny and Hadji tho.

The studio is also looking at changing the title of Johnny Quest to "H.S.M.5"

QUEST
JQ

Bewildefy: The original Jonny Quest was not a Saturday morning cartoon originally. It ran in prime time for one year. Too bad they didn't make any more episodes than that back then. Clooney could make an interesting Bannon. That series has been one of my alltime favorites ever since I was a kid back in the 70s.

As for the Real Adventures, unlike many of my friends, I really enjoyed that series. Now THAT is a way to age Jonny and the cast enough to put an interesting new twist on the show without ruining its basic premise. That show benefited from the formula that made Batman: The Animated Series work so well: tight stories, lots of action, and interesting villains. Looking back, the Questworld computer thing was a little cheesy, but at the time, it worked, and gave the show a contemporary feel.
