Hugh Jackman has broke the news that he'll play a part in Neil Blomkamp's Chappie while promoting Prisoners at the Zurich Film Festival. "I am doing a role in Neill’s new film, called Chappie, which we shoot in Johannesburg," the X-Men: Days Of Future Past actor revealed. "I’m there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year." The movie will also star Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley, who'll play the title role (via motion capture) of a law enforcement robot who is stolen and reprogrammed by a couple of gangsters played by Ninja and Yolandi Visser of Die Antwoord. The Newsroom's Dev Patel will also star. According to Bleeding Cool, Jackman will likely play "a CEO who ends up on the wrong side of the gangsters. He’s apparently quite a resourceful character, though." Chappie is based on Blomkamp's short film Tetra Vaal, which you can see below.

Die Antwoord is [frick]ing terrible and stupid, and is the pinnacle of what is wrong with the music industry. I mean, this is a group of people who encourage dressing like trailer park hobos as a fashion statement. Ugh.

Hugh Jackman could play a role of toilet paper and he would nail it.

Heard of Die Antwoord but not familiar with their music though. As long as the two can act, I'm cool with it.

Oh, wow. Elysium severely broke my heart, so I'll be careful in maintaining my expectation toward this one, but Hugh surely is a great addition. Still, though, I really wish Chappie will prove that Neill Blomkamp isn't just a one-hit wonder. (Though District 9 was one hell of a wonder.)

Hmm...I guess Yolandi was right when she said...

'My bodyguard helped me get through the bar, Neil Blomkamp's making me a movie star.'

...in that old song 'Baby's On Fire'.

Yolandi Visser was also considered for the role of Lisbeth in Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', although aside from their videos I've never seen them act in anything.

They're really just conceptual artists that pretend to be poor Afrikaner rappers but I dig some of what they do.

I really am interested in this film, haven't heard a lot about it. Been a Hugh Jackman fan from day one. Seriously, the dude is just awesome personified. So, good news to hear he's added to what to me has an interesting chance for a film. And, don't wanna not give honor where it is due, Sharlto Copley is also an amazing actor. Really think he's one of the most talented actors on screen today.
