Do we finally have our first confirmed cast member for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot? Though nothing has been officially announced, a reliable source is claiming that Adam Driver will be suiting-up as Reed Richards in the movie.
The Star Wars: The Last Jedi actor has been rumored to be the studio's top choice for a while now, and last we heard, he was said to be in the "final talks" stage of negotiations. Now, @MyTimeToShineHello - who has a solid track record of beating the trades to some big stories - is reporting that the deal is done, and Driver will lead the team as the super-stretchy Mr. Fantastic.
We'll obviously have to take this as a rumor for the time being, but if accurate, the trades are sure to weigh-in fairly soon.
We have heard a few names mentioned in connection with Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and The Thing, but nothing solid just yet. Mila Kunis - who was said to be in contention to play Sue Storm - did recently say that she knew "who was in the movie," so there's a chance Marvel has locked-down its main cast and is waiting for the right opportunity to make an announcement.
Matt Shakman will direct from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Plot details are still a mystery, but Kevin Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
Filming is currently scheduled for January.
