We originally got our first look at Marvel's First Family a few months back with some leaked footage and period-accurate promo art. However, today marked the first official look at the Fantastic Four First Steps! The reveal was reminiscent of when Marvel went all out for relatively mundane announcements like a trailer, rather than a tv spot prompting us to go online for the rest of a trailer. The reveal began with an hour-long countdown to the trailer, showcasing space artifacts from the Space and Rocket Center in Hunstville, Alabama.
The aura throughout the presentation was spot on, with a slight film grain and even presented with "Fantasti-vision," the production designe wasted no time immersing viewers in the retro-futuristic feeling the movie itself will no doubt embrace. . Ebon Moss-Bacharach, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Pedro Pascal made their way to the small stage making a point to interact with fans along the way, with the internet's sweetheart Pedro seemingly holding things up to great each fan.
Title cards reminiscient of 60's era talks shows and news reports would identify each cast member as they answered questions from the presenter. In case you haven't caught on yet, the main highlight of the ordeal (aside from the trailer) was Marvel's willingness to lean into the retro-futuristic vibes of the Fantastic Four. This is what initially got me excited as soon as the stream started. I personally would love to see this moving forward but also makes me long for what could have been.
Could you imagine a STEM Expo to spotlight technological advances to reveal the Iron Man movies? A USO inspired concert rasiing funds for veteran organizations to announnce Captain America: The First Avaneger? Granted, hindsight is twenty-twenty - nobody really knew for certain where the MCU would be today and how massive it would ave become. Still, this could be a great step (a fisrt step you might say) to have reveals and announcnemetns steeped in the vibes the project in question is going for.
The trailer itself, while not getting too much into the plot, definitely showed anough to build excitement. Everyone seems to execute their roles exquisitely. Pedro, while being the internet's dad, certainly captures the fatherly tone. Joseph Quinn certainly embodies the brashness of the Human Touch. Bacharach, while more than likely doing more voice over work than on screen acting, seems to effectively capture both acceptance and melancholy for his transformation to th Thing . And perhaps my favorite part is Vanessa Kirby's portrayal of Sue Storm. Like Pedro, she certainly conveys a motherly tone, grounding Mr. Fantastic and assuredly the rest of the family, as mothers do.
Overall, the trailer does great to set the tone from the get go - family first. Afterall, anything else from Marvel's First Family would be a misfire. Of course, we get some teases of what is to come from the film. We can see Galactus's massive shadow looming over New York the Fantastic-car, and Herbie.
You can view the stream in its entirety below, butthe presentation itself starts at the one hour mark. What did you think of the trailer? Are you excited for the Fantastic Four: First Steps? Either way, we'll see you Sunday at 7pm for dinner - no matter what! As awlays leave your thoughts and comments below, and let me kow if there's anything else you'd like to see from the Spaceport!
