Conan Reboot? What is Hollywood Thinking?

I am flabbergasted at learning that Hollywood is releasing a remake of Conan the Barbarian. If they wanted to make more money off of the Conan franchise why not have the original Conan in the follow up called Conan the Conquer?

Hollywood must really be running out of ideas, I have stumbled across several remake ideas that they are pitching, another one is the True Grit remake(as if anyone is of a big enough caliber to top The Duke, on the other hand, at least they waited till long after he was dead to do this.) If memory serves me right, the original series of Conan movies are still doing substantially good(even after all this time.) Which begs the question of Why the remake, instead of the final installment? I mean really, How long are Conan fans going to have to wait for the actual completion of the trilogy?

Furthermore, if they are so deadset on doing that type of Movie, then Why not a Thundarr the Barbarian Movie(with Kevin Sorbo as Thundarr, Eliza Dushku (after an awesome tan) as Ariel, and a contender for Mr. Universe as Ookla.) On the other hand they could do another installment, hopefully with better results, of The BeastMaster, or even green light the Masters of the Universe remake, which it needs due to the fact that the original was no where near the comics or cartoon storyline.

The fact of the matter is, there are vertually tons of ideas that they could use, if they bother to look, and this fan sees no reason why they needed to do a remake, consider the fact that I got The Frachise Collection of what they call The Complete Quest.

One thing that really frustrates me is when Hollywood does remakes for no sound reason. Consider this fact, Conan made Arnold Schwarzenegger a big name star, with that stated what kind of notariety can this vertual no name actor from Hawaii hope to gain from this. To further complecate this "New Conan's" shot at actual notariety, wasn't it the original Conan that made that hairstyle popular in the 80's? As for the main supporting actor in the Conan Movies, who have they got that could possibly contend with the likes of how Mako performed that roll. Likewise, how are these new actors going to contend with the performances of Grace Jones and all the other memorable characters from the original stories?

I can understand if it's a remake like what they are doing with Judge Dredd, the flexibility to hold closer to the comic then what they could in the original there, or even RoboCop, mainly the same reason, on account that the comics for these two are in the realm of not for children, RoboCop primarily for the graphic nature and Judge Dredd for the obvious reasons, if you have read the comic.

However, there is little we can do to rattle those hollywood braincells into actually funtioning, especially in reguards to the release of the "New Conan", it is slated for release on August 19 of what is about to become this year.

In closing, let us hope that the new year brings working brains and rational thinking to the powers that be in Hollywood, I know it is a great deal to hope for, but my parent's always told me, if your going to dream- dream big.

Until next time comfans.

This isn't a remake of Conan the Barbarian: it's a new film based on the original stories of Conan from the 1930s. Aside from the character's name, and the idea that he goes on a quest for vengeance against the sorcerer who destroyed his tribe and murdered his parents, the new film doesn't have anything from the original film: none of the characters, settings, props, ideas or quotes.

Now, if they were making an actual adaptation of one of the stories, it would at least not tread on CtB's toes, since the 1982 film took about as many liberties with the source material as Stallone's Judge Dredd did, and both series could co-exist. But of course, they're not doing that: instead they're making up yet another origin story that has nothing to do with the original stories, as well as ignoring CtB.

So neither CtB fans, nor fans of Robert E. Howard's short stories, are particularly happy about this.

First of all, True Grit isn't a remake of the John Wayne movie. Its the book that they are adapting, which is a very different story.

2nd, this isn't a reboot, its a new series based on the books about the character. They will be very different than the old Conan movies that really didn't do the character justice.

and 3rd, you said, "Hollywood must really be running out of ideas". Do you realize that there are FAR more original movies that come out of Hollywood every year than remakes and reboots? just wondering...

Alright, just because I am a Comics Oricle doesn't mean I know everything, and I am willing to admit my mistakes. First to LEEE777, I figured that out years ago, this was just my first chance to vent that notion. To earzmundo, we at least can agree on this point, and I hope that this presentation of Red Sonja does far better than Stallone's EX did back then, I don't feel like stuggling to spell her name. To everyone else, thank you for setting me straight, and hope I do better next go around. Till next time comfans.

I have two Questions for you, my readers, one, What did you think of my suggestions for the main characters in a Thundarr the Barbarian Movie? Two, What would you think of an avenue for comic fans to express thier creativity, who knows what possibilities might open up that way? Awaitng feedback, hopefully positive. Till next time comfans.

NO SORBO FOR GODS SAKE. I liked the old Conans but CorndogBurglar is right. This will be way more faithful to the original stories. I will agree that Thundarr could be a cool bringback as long as Lucas dosnt want to sue him for stealing the light saber.

felixxx, Sorbo was TV"s Hercules and Captain on Andromeda. Furthermore, Thundarr uses a Sunsword, and I think the magicians in the Hollywood effects departments could be able to do this in a manner that shows a clear distinction between the two, i.e. making it more of a radiant flame rather than a solid color optional beam. Question, So you think the other two choices are workable? Additional, seperate question What opinion do you have on my creative avenue idea? Till next time comfans.

With respect, Sorbo has always seemed like a sissy to me. And he's about on the Caspar Van Dean level talent(and draw)-wise. Whoever casted him as Kull should be shot, and Hercules was kind of a joke. Of course, it's hard to imagine Thundarr being taken that seriously as a film, even though I loved the cartoon, and the concept in general.

OK,
avengingson,
Who would you slate as Thundarr, provided that an attentive, reasonably knowldgeable, and passionate writer were given permission to write the script? Keep in mind that chioces like The Rock have been over exposed. Likewise, just my opinion, if I were allowed to undertake said task(or similarly associated projects), I would try and leave open the possibility of some crossover Movies. Till next time comfans.
