"Dark Crystal" Sequel IS Still In Development

MTV got to head over to the Jim Henson Co. and pick (Co)CEO Brian Henson's brain about the prospects of a "Fraggle Rock" movie, and the developing "Dark Crystal" sequel.

During MTV's visit with Jim Henson Studios, they were told by the surviving son of Jim, Brian Henson, that work on a Fraggle Rock movie was very active. Heavy emphasis on the very.

Henson says that the script is looking very strong, and it will have a heavy musical component.

On top of that, MTV was able to uncover that the sequel project for The Dark Crystal, titled The Power of the Dark Crystal, is still under very active development. More emphasis on that very.

Any self-respecting child fantasy fan of the '80s will remember The Dark Crystal (directed by Jim Henson and Yoda himself, Frank Oz) as a turning point in puppet fantasy. Even bordering on horror for some of the character designs.

The last bit of information we had on a Dark Crystal sequel was from 2008 when it was reported animation guru, Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls), would direct. Tartakovsky's conditions were that it would use old-fashioned muppets with a mix of computer animation, and the original character designer, Brian Froud, would return.

During it's lifetime, The Dark Crystal has had a tie-in novel (now out-of-print), an Atari 8-bit video game, a 1983 comic adaptation by Marvel, and most recently a TokyoPop Manga prequel series titled, Legends of the Dark Crystal.

...one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

I also hope they bring back "The Never Ending Story."

That movie was also one of my favorites.

OMG. They could do a Neverending Story 3. It could be so bad ass. I wrote a concept Power Metal album in 2004 based loosely on Neverending Story.
