In a programme presented by Zoe Ball and featuring the likes of Peter Davison, the 12th Doctor was revealed to be Peter Capaldi, who has been one of the popular favorites in the ongoing speculation. Since Matt Smith announced his departure back in June, fans have been wondering who would be stepping into the Tardis to replace him. Rumors flew that it might be a woman, and pretty much every name in British tv was thrown around at some point or another. Capaldi, 55, was most recently see in World War Z playing “W.H.O. Doctor” (yes, really) but is probably best known for his sweary, hilarious turn as Malcolm Tucker in the BBC comedy series The Thick of It and its follow-up film In the Loop. What do you think of this choice?

I really wanted Rupert Grint, but I'm willing to see how Capaldi is.

The perfect choice! Im tired of a young goofy doctor, I want an older slightly more edgy doctor and Capaldi is perfect for that

LMFAO I LOVE THIS GUY. [frick]ING HILARIOUS

Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some [frick]ing regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some [frick]ing Jane [frick]ing Austen novel! Allow me to pop a jaunty little bonnet on your purview and ram it up your shitter with a lubricated horse cock!

If you don't watch The Thick of It or In the Loop, then you are an idiot and doing yourself a disservice.

I think it was time we had an older Doctor!

I would've liked a lady doctor, but this is enough of a shakeup of the modern Doctor Who status quo (status qwho?), to be interesting.

Matt Smith was my favorite Doctor so far, so I'm sad to see him go. This guy better be good.

Doesn't matter; Colin Baker was in an episode of DW before being cast as the Doctor. In the episode he SHOT Peter Davidson.

Is this a joke?!?
I don't mind if the Doctor is a little older, but this guy is 55 years old.
I was expecting older to be at least 38 ...
I hope the Doctor is still running around.

It's gonna be a little weird to see the flirtatious relationship with his companion.

This casting decision proves that the BBC aren't going to cater the show towards the shallow Teenage Girls who only care about looks. This is incredible casting that separates the real Doctor Who fans from the shallow fan-girls.

It's a shame they didn't take a chance on something/someone different to the shows normal Doctor choices.
Colin Salmon would've been pretty great.

He's been in Doctor Who already and he's been on Torchwood.
That's really all I know about him.

Also, given his age, here's hoping we can lose the constant romantic crap Moffat has been shoving down our throats these past few seasons!!

It's not rare for Doctor Who cast members to turn up in a guest role on the show before they join the cast. Karen Gillan was in "The Fires of Pompeii," Freema Agyeman was in "Army of Ghosts."

Anyways, I'm happy about this choice. I was hoping for an older actor to get the role.

Yeah, didn't think about that. As if it wasn't cradle robbing already, having him look old just makes it worse.

Who knows, maybe because of his age his companions won't fall for him like they have in the past.
