Evangeline Lilly Signed Up For THE HOBBIT Movies On One Condition: No Love Triangle!

Well, we know how that turned out! Coming off one of the most famous love triangles in tv history, the former Lost alum really didn't want a repeat of that in the final 2 Hobbit movies - but when 2 films became 3, everything changed.

It seems Evangeline Lilly didn't want to recall her Jack/Sawyer days on Lost when signing on to The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug and the final flick in the trilogy, There And Back Again. The actress reveals to Yahoo! in the video below that the one and only stipulation she had when agreeing to be a part of the movies was "no love triangle". Of course anyone who's seen the current movie will know that didn't exactly stick - Lilly's character Tauriel is quite taken with Kili (Aidan Turner) while also drawing some very interested glances from Legolas (Orlando Bloom). Apparently when the decision was made to expand the 2 movies into a trilogy, those extra scenes were added.

“We came back for reshoots in 2012 … and they were like, 'Uh, the studio would really like to see…' And I was like, 'Here we go. Here we go' And sure enough I'm in another love triangle.”

Lilly can take solace in the fact that her scenes with Turner, at least, work very well in The Desolation Of Smaug..we'll have to see how things play out in the final movie (though anyone who's read the book will have a fair idea what shape this little triangle will ultimately take!)

Didn't feel forced to me at all..in fact I loved her scenes with Turner..nothing schmaltzy, very natural. Course there'll always be the "Ugh, love stuff!" contingent.

^One of the only things I disliked about it...couldn't they have saved it for MoS 2? Lois could've kissed his broken nose after Batman smashes it in w/ his Kryptonite mood ring...

But the love triangle was actually done well, meaning that it wasn't over done.

I really liked Tauriel. I don't get the hate. The Hobbit is a shorter book but I think they're expanding was a smart decision. I think she added something and she was a great character. Plus, I don't want this to be a sausage fest of a movie. She was really refreshing. And the romance is cute, not gonna lie.

Yeah, Supes and Lois in MoS felt way more forced than this elf/dwarf relationship. Both characters just so happen to meet up all the time in different parts of the world? Haha COME ON!

Legolas standing in the shadows is the creepiest scene in the whole middle earth series.

This love triangle was easily the worst part of the movie. Not that I didn't like the characters...I like all the characters involve. It does feel force. And personally, I feel any "mutual affection" between elves and dwarves diminish the importance and ground-breaking nature of Legolas and Gimli's friendship in the future.

Plus I'm calling it now that Kili (who we know dies in the book) and Tauriel both die in the end.

I have not seen TH:TDoS yet, but Tauriel is my primary point of interest, other than Smaug himself. If you are going to create a new character in a Tolkien story, you really can't do much better than a redhead Sylvan elf named 'Tauriel.'

If she were the only addition to the book, I'd be thrilled.

@Tempo not true, Gimli had affection for Galadriel in LotR, straight from the books. So this wasn't totally out of place.

What love triangle in the book? Tauriel wasn't even in the book? Oh now I get it... ok wont spoil (somebody else spoiled already anyways).

The love triangle was a pretty piss poor excuse to give Tauriel extra screen time.

I had no problem with her as a character, and some of the scenes between her and Kili were quite sincere, but that healing scene in particular was one of those 'so-cliche-that-noone-in-their-right-mind-would-actually-do-that-in-a-film' sort of scenes. Multiple people in the theatre were laughing, others, were in tears.

I'm not surprised that it was a 'studio' decision.

"though anyone who's read the book will have a fair idea what shape this little triangle will ultimately take!" Really? Cause Tauriel isn't in the f***ing book so I, as a fan of the book, have no f***ing clue!

Well I don't remember her being in the Lotr movie trilogy, so she probably dies next to him... Unless Jackson pulls a Lucas and digitally inserts her into the council scene...

This movie lacked the heart of every other. A half arsed love story toss in a small book to make 3 films didn't help that one bit. Half the movie was scraps from a more talented directors cutting floor.
