First Snippets Of Footage From The R-Rated Cut Of THE HOBBIT: TBOTFA

A trailer for the upcoming theaterical screening of the extended cuts of The Hobbit trilogy has been released. Though there's nothing R-rated in this footage, we do get to see a few new shots that weren't in the theatrical cut of TBOTFA - including Beorn laying waste to orcs!

Warner Bros. has confirmed that the extended cut of The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies will indeed be rated R. Why specifically is unclear, but one would assume it's for some extra violence and not an added inter-species sex scene between Tauriel and Kili.

Anyway, the following trailer is for the upcoming Fathom Events screening of the trilogy, and contains some brand new shots. One of things a lot of fans took issue with in the theatrical version of TBOTFA is that bear-man Beorn was only in one blink-and-you-miss it shot towards the end, but as you'll see from the trailer there will be more of him in this extended edition.

The Fathom Events screening of the extended cuts of all three The Hobbit movies kicks off on October 5th. and The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies extended edition arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on November 17th.

Pretty [frick]ed up that an adaptation of a kid's book is rated R.

Not one of the LOTR films were rated R (extended or theatrical).

When this gets on blu-ray, I'll be running to Target like:

@Ragnaroknroll

Kind of shocked that none of the LOTR were rated R actually, even if it was just an extended edition.

Watch Mad Max: Fury Road and then The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies back-to-back. I can pretty much guarantee you won't find two movies that will give you more of a massive, jarring whiplash.

These Hobbit movies are remarkable because they made New Zealand relevant for 15 years. Now we can all go back to not giving a shit about that country.

The LOTR trilogy extended cuts really could have been rated R. There were decapitations etc all over the place. Maybe WB just slapped the R on this final release to drum up a bit more interest.

How the hell are there extended editions to movies that were already 50% padding. The movies should have exploded from being overstuffed after this.

@SauronsBANE

Oh you mean one that is amazing in Mad Max and one is nothing more then what should be 30 mins of film extended over 3 hours.

@Ragnaroknroll -- a lot of The Hobbit Trilogy was actually adapted from The Silmarillion, and The History of The Lord of The Rings writings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Peter Jackson was a huge Middle-earth fan which is why he pushed for The Hobbit to be turned into a film for so long.
What I personally like is that he tied that story, into his previous trilogy very nicely.

Great film series all-together.

@AlexanderLykins Steven Spielberg is still very much a great director.

Wished Jackson would direct Thor 3, now that'd be something...

@ckal

And the one with the Goblin King ended with a stupid comedic dog pile with the Goblin King's corpse landing on all the dwarves.

@pesmerga44 Actually...yeah haha.

Mad Max had George Miller, who actually understood action and how it can be used to tell a visual story. The Hobbit, on the other hand, had Peter Jackson. Who USED to understand action in the LOTR trilogy (for the most part...you can see a lot of the same problems with The Hobbit start to crop up in The Two Towers and Return of the King), but basically gave up by the time The Hobbit rolled around.

Woah Spielberg made Lincoln that was a damn good movie but I will agree Jackson went totally Lucas with the Hobbit Trilogy those movies were shit.

He also directed the Adventures of Tintin and that to me is a really underrated animated film. I really like to catch that film on tv when I can.

@Niklander

I don't have a problem with a movie being over two hours the LOTR films for an example are fine to me for being over two hours. There is a lot of story to go over for those three films. The issue is Jackson by far the smallest book in the Middle Earth books and stretched it so thin where it was almost translucent to 3 movies that were all over three hours.
