Rumors have been doing the rounds for some time that Warner Bros. might be planning some type of Harry Potter spinoff for the small screen, and THR is now claiming that a series based in the Wizarding World is in the works for HBO Max.
Though studio reps are denying it ("There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform"), the trade is claiming that early discussions have taken place, and "executives at the WarnerMedia-backed streamer have engaged in multiple conversations with potential writers exploring various ideas that would bring the beloved property to television."
It sounds like the premise is still being decided upon at this stage, but there's a lot of potential to explore the world established in J.K. Rowling's beloved series of novels beyond the main story of Harry and his pals at Hogwarts.
The Harry Potter adaptations (and, to a lesser extent, the current Fantastic Beasts spinoffs) remain one of WB's most successful properties, so it's hardly surprising that there are plans to continue the franchise on HBO Max when streaming may soon become the primary focus of all the major studios.
If this Harry Potter series does become a reality, which stories/characters would you most like it to focus on? Let us know in the usual place.
