If you're expecting Shakespeare , rent Henry the 5th , but if visual spectacle and plenty of ancient Greek action sounds good to you, then you'll really enjoy this film. I do and I did!
Let's start with the acting. Solid all around! There wasn't a wooden , unprofessional performance from anyone. In fact a big stand-out to me was Rosamund Pike's performance as Andromeda. She delivered a tense, very visceral characterization which elevated the overall quality of the film.
She's just a joy to watch on screen.
The dialog was a bit wooden and cliched, but not to the point of distraction, and it generally worked within the context of the screenplay.
I also have to give high praise to the sound tract which was well choreographed with the action as it carried it forward throughout the film.
Speaking of action, here it's pretty thrilling. I'm not going to say there was high drama as our hero's lives were at risk, but never-the-less the action scenes were great! The CGI was as believable as any in 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes', so it never served as a distraction from the story immersion.
Walking out of the theater I definitely had a sense of satisfaction knowing I got my entertainment's worth out of every dollar.
Heck even applause erupted when the film ended.
If you want clever dialog, intelligent scripting and some social commentary stay away from this movie.
If you want to have a good time at the theater and watch some good old-fashioned 'good vs. evil ' story telling , you won't be disappointed.
