The Soloman Kane film is based on the character created by Robert E. Howard in 1928. He is a brutally efficient 16th Century killing machine wielding pistols, a cutlass and a rapier.

As the story opens, Kane and his men carve a bloody path through hordes of defenders of a city in northern Africa. When Kane decides to attack a mysterious nearby castle to plunder its rumored riches, things start to get strange. Even though that the castle is inhabited by evil demons, Kane and his men push deeper into the keep, hell-bent for the treasure. His men are picked off one by one, leaving Kane alone to face down a ten-foot beast the ‘Reaper’. The demon tells Kane that he's come from Hell specifically to get him. Though Kane manages to escape the demon, he knows that he must redeem himself by renouncing violence and living a life of peace and purity. His newfound spirituality is soon tested as he journeys across an England ravaged by diabolical human raiders who fight under the command of a terrifying, masked Overlord. When he fails to stop the slaughter of a family that has befriended him, Kane vows to free their daughter, who has been enslaved—even if it means putting his own soul in peril by renouncing his vow of peace.

IGN posted these new screen shots on October 28th:

The film is directed by Michael J. Bassett and stars James Purefoy as the title character.

MPP – I’m very excited to see this movie. I’m a big fan of period pieces; hopefully this will make up for the train wreck known as Van Helsing.

"a city in northern africa". This kind of lazy ill informed crap really pisses me off. Africa is not a country...its a freaking continent!

Thats actually correct saying that. Never said anything that seems to make Africa seem like a country.

Hey @ MULTI, do you like ROCKETEER and period movies like that??
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 11/4/2009, 12:43 PM
I think msKyle is saying they should be more specific.

@ Luffy: The character dates back to the ultra classic "Wierd Tales" magazine which featured writings by greats like HP Lovecraft and Robert Howard who also created Conan The Barbarian. Since wierd tales there have been SK runs in different comics

Sorry it wasn't an anime or a manga

I always loved the Solomon Kane and Conan stories. Two of the top movies I am excited for are this one and Conan.

MPP - I like the Rocketeer too but the main thing I remember about it was Jennifer Connelly, she look good in that movie.

MULTI @ Its mine too man!! Yeah i don't think we've got a lot to worry about with the CAP picture apart from a certain actor thats a kiss of death for the role that is lol.

Seriously though, i hope they go the way you did with your WWII costume!! Infact you've change my views of just using the round shield now, i kinda like the old shield too now!

JerusalemJr @ Hey Connelly still looks good lol. Classic movie though, pure comic book period piece! It's a pity we never got a sequel, though ive heard they wanna bring it back with the original cast, so not sure how thats gonna happen 18 or so years later if its true?? It'll be amazing though!

Lee - Very true, Connelly does still look good. She did get a bit too skinny though, I like my women with at least a little bit of meat on them.

LEEE777 - 11/4/2009, 2:37 PM
Yep shes got the meat @ M8 bk then!! ; D

Yeah i know what you mean, i thought she looked good in HULK but lately shes got a tad too skinny, even on the verge of unheathly like.

I didn't realize Alba was in that movie. I guess she likes Rodriguez, which is good because she made a hot Nancy.

I was leary of the original stories that came out, thought the premise was lame. My uncle convinced me to give it a chance and the character is on par with Conan in my book. @Poni: Where you stationed out of? I'm over at Lajes myself.

I could see why. Tdy over there, or are you assigned as PA? And getting back to the subject at hand, always thought alot of Howards stuff would make for a great HBO adventure series. Different seasons being made for the different larger stories with minor stories making great tangent episodes. Any thoughts anyone?

Totally with you, on this. Plus certain mainstream comics, like the X-Men, have too many characters and stories to be fleshed out and told to be done in movie format. Look at Heroes as an example of what a popular live action superhero tv show could be. Can't wait to see what HBO is gonna do for Preacher, though.
