There is an undeniable beauty to these films that Jackson has done. It's actually a great feat to behold from a visual standpoint and the acting is pretty terrific.

For me though, they're just a bit redundant. It almost seems like after a certain point, I am watching the same film remade over and over again.

Yes the story changes, and there are differences in focus, but it almost seems like a carbon copy template of the one that came before for the most part.

What was really funny was that at the end of the other films, when they just fought a large hoard of orcs, dragons, and ghosts, I'd hear Gandalf say 'and now, soon...the real battle will begin'.

I was like..damn...I thought I just saw 'the real battle' for like the second time?

Of course the next battle was the same. Just had the enemies changed up.

Maybe it's just me though.

Thranduil is supposed to be fierce, not vulnerable.

Thranduil looks awesome. I personally found An Unexpected Journey disappointing, but I expect Desolation of Smaug to be the best of the three, and I hope that it makes me happier.

@Humperdink - If they had just stuck to the Hobbit book more directly, it would not feel so much like more of the same. Granted, the story structure of the Hobbit is in the early stages similar to Lord of the Rings, but the tone is very different. However, Jackson appears to be trying to mimic the same tone (and running time) as LotR.
