Recently Dick Cook and Captain Jack appeared at D23Expo announcing POFC4 exciting many people. But now it seems that people should simmer down because Dick Cook, Disney Studios chairman, was fired by Disney CEO Bib Iger. Unfortunately for Pirates of the Caribbean fans not only was he a big deal at Disney he was, apparently, the only reason Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow.
When asked about getting fired, Dick had this to say:
"I have loved every minute of my 38 years that I have worked at Disney," said Cook. "From the beginning as a ride operator on Disneyland's steam train and monorail to my position as chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. During my time at the Studio, we have achieved many industry and Company milestones. Our talent roster is simply the best in the business. I believe our slate of upcoming motion pictures is the best in our history. But most of all, I love the people, my colleagues, my teammates, who are the most talented, dedicated and loyal folks in the world."
Well why does this matter to Depp? When asked he had this to say:
"He said, 'I'd like you to hear it from me before you hear it from someone else or read it,'" Depp revealed. "He said today was my last day. He didn't give me a reason."
The reason might be that because of Cook, Depp was able to land the role and commit to the pirate we all love:
"He said, 'We're thinking about doing this 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie,'" Depp recalled. "I said I was in. This was before there was a script or anything."
Even though Depp is attached to do another, it sounds like he might not even want to do it anymore:
"There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment," Depp said. "It was all born in that office."
So what do you think? Will Depp come back? If Depp doesn't come back, would they replace him? Will there be a POTC4?!? Discuss it all and more below.
