After leaving his mark as a supporting character, appearing in blockbusters X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers: Infinity War, Peter Dinklage is already seeking for a meatier lead role for his post Game of Thrones career. The actor, who will have had portrayed Tyrion Lannister for a total of nine years once Thrones finishes airing, will be returning to the fantasy genre sooner rather than later. Sony, who had previously collaborated with Dinklage on Pixels, has recruited the actor to lead and produce their reimagining of Rumpelstiltskin.
The film, which will be penned by Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls), has been proposed as a blockbuster vehicle for Dinklage. Though it is unlikely to share much with the 1995 horror adaptation of the material, it is possible that it will maintain its genre roots. Variety reports that the studio has still not decided on the setting of the film, whether it would be a period piece or set in modern day. It is likely that the studio may decide once the screenplay is in order, which is when they decide how much they are willing to spend on the film.
Do you think Dinklage will nail the role?
