EDITORIAL: Why Neveldine/Taylor deserve a chance.

Here I will explain why I feel we should be giving this directing duo a chance.

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are still technically unknown directors, their also the directors that either you love em or you hate em. A lot of people tend to trash their movies, but do they deserve all the hate?

Debut: Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor made their mark in hollywood when they released a film, starring Jason Statham known as Crank. From the story, to their directing style. Crank was completely different than what anyone has ever done. Their style is their trademark. Their high octane, adrenaline, fast paced camera movements make it interesting and unique to look at. Critics actually liked Crank.

Since then: Since they came out with Crank, Neveldine/Taylor to most has been disappointing. They produced Pathology (which I really enjoyed), and they directed Crank 2 and Gamer. Crank 2 and Gamer are like the original Crank, their fun movies. Gamer is actually my favorite Neveldine/Taylor film. This year they came out with the "requel" that many consider to be one of the worst CBM's ever, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Although it wasn't panned by critics, it still received negative reviews and still not well liked and now their coming out with Crank 3 and possibly in 3-D.

Why they deserve a chance: For years we've been given directors who came out with damn good movies, and character driven films. Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, just to name a couple. Alot of people expect Oscar worthy movies from these directors and at times they can appreciate a fun movie. So, why all the hate on Neveldine/Taylor? Alot of people hate on them because of their style and their fairly short movies. Their my favorite directors for the simple fact of their unique style and they don't give character driven movies. When they make a movie, they don't aim for an Oscar. They just wanna make a fun movie for the audience, although a lot of the things they put in their movies aren't meant for kids. Who says a movie can't be trashy fun? That was the whole point behind Crank, they wanted to get out there while making a fun movie and in the end, they got their money's worth.

Give these guys a chance, don't expect a character and drama driven film from these guys. When you watch a Neveldine/Taylor movie, watch it because it's a fun movie. Their style is unique and different from the rest, they make fun movies. Expect the movie to be trashy fun and I can guarantee that you'll appreciate these guys and their films alot more.

Respectful comments below, please and thank you.

@TheLizard1: dude I totally agree with you. Of the movies they have directed, I saw 2 and enjoyed them both thouroughly. Crank was [frick]ing awesome, and I really wish fans would have given Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance a shot, that was truly a unique CBM, action wise, visually and a great performance by Nic Cage.

I loved spirit of vengeance! id let them take a stab at another rider movie.I don't get why there is so much hate for it.like ironpool said its truly a unique cbm, ghostrider off the pages. It was great to see something diff than most cbms repetitive set up and deliver. i guess a lot of people just don't like gritty action movies.Fun times cant wait for the blu ray

If you are in the right mindset (the [frick] it lets what stuff low up and eat popcorn mindset) their films are fun (aside from GR 2... wtf). Unfortunately they don't transcend that.

They just need to grow up a bit.

After watching the Crank movies I heard they were directing the Ghost Rider sequel. That is when I knew I wasn't going to watch it. I love gritty action movies, hell I grew up in the eighties when action movies were all TnA and violence and R ratings. It seems like thats what they want to be but they just tell crappy, stupid stories.

I'm sorry but just wanting to make fun movies isn't really good enough, especially not for a CBM. Comic books themselves are very character driven, and the Ghost Rider sequel should've been so much better. I hope a good director directs a third installment, and hopefully David Goyer can redeem himself with that.
