If you're wondering why you never heard anything about Ryan Gosling potentially being in line to play Nova, that's because it was never actually rumored (not by anyone worth paying attention to, at least).
But, as we know all too well, these bogus reports and fan-casts still tend to gain traction from time to time, and The Gray Man star was asked about the possibility of suiting-up as Richard Rider during a recent interview.
MTV's Josh Horowitz sent out the following Tweet, confirming that Gosling will not be taking flight as Nova in the currently in-development Marvel Studios project (most likely a Disney+ series), but there is another Marvel Comics character the Academy Award-nominee would be interested in playing.
"Ryan and I chatted about the Nova rumors yesterday which he said aren’t true," said Horowitz. "But, this morning Ryan reached out to me to say there is one superhero he wants to play... Ghost Rider."
We have heard whispers that Gosling did recently meet with Marvel Studios, so there's a chance some discussions about him taking on the role of the Spirit of Vengeance have already taken place - although we still don't know what Kevin Feige and co. actually have planned for the character's MCU debut.
As for which iteration of the flame-headed hero we might see when he does eventually tear his way back onto the screen, rumors have indicated that it will not be Johnny Blaze or Robbie Reyes (who have featured in the previous Ghost Rider movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., respectively), which still leaves Danny Ketch, Alejandra Jones, Kushala or perhaps even an all-new incarnation of the character.
