Ryan Gosling Debunks NOVA "Rumor," But Would Be Interested In Playing GHOST RIDER

Ryan Gosling has debunked a (supposed) rumor that he might be in line to play Nova in the upcoming Disney+ series of the same name, while also expressing interest in taking on the role of Ghost Rider.

If you're wondering why you never heard anything about Ryan Gosling potentially being in line to play Nova, that's because it was never actually rumored (not by anyone worth paying attention to, at least).

But, as we know all too well, these bogus reports and fan-casts still tend to gain traction from time to time, and The Gray Man star was asked about the possibility of suiting-up as Richard Rider during a recent interview.

MTV's Josh Horowitz sent out the following Tweet, confirming that Gosling will not be taking flight as Nova in the currently in-development Marvel Studios project (most likely a Disney+ series), but there is another Marvel Comics character the Academy Award-nominee would be interested in playing.

"Ryan and I chatted about the Nova rumors yesterday which he said aren’t true," said Horowitz. "But, this morning Ryan reached out to me to say there is one superhero he wants to play... Ghost Rider."

We have heard whispers that Gosling did recently meet with Marvel Studios, so there's a chance some discussions about him taking on the role of the Spirit of Vengeance have already taken place - although we still don't know what Kevin Feige and co. actually have planned for the character's MCU debut.

As for which iteration of the flame-headed hero we might see when he does eventually tear his way back onto the screen, rumors have indicated that it will not be Johnny Blaze or Robbie Reyes (who have featured in the previous Ghost Rider movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., respectively), which still leaves Danny Ketch, Alejandra Jones, Kushala or perhaps even an all-new incarnation of the character.

@Reeds2Much - Can’t deny that it would be awesome to see Gosling in the role, but… Cage better come back again. To great an opportunity to pass up. Furthermore, Nevaldine & Taylor need to make Crank 3, and Cage should absolutely play an integral role, if not the hardcore villain.

Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider would reach "literally me" levels that weren't thought to be possible

@Fares - what does that mean?

@UGLYsonic - Oh you know the "literally me" meme? When the average guy, one whom you might consider a nobody, relates to a movie character that displays "lone wolf" and "outsider" charactersitics. Someone who's badass and going against the flow of the world, among other things. e.g. The protagonists of Drive, Blade Runner 2049, American Psycho, Fight Club, etc. Ryan Gosling characters became classically used in these memes to the point that Ryan Gosling himself became a "literally me" character. And Ghost Rider would only add fuel to that fire.

Hard pass on Ryan Gosling. He has an ego problem and as much as I love Robert Downey Jr, do did he. And we all know where that went. Constantly demanding payment while reducing his actual physical on screen time. They paid him $50 million to voice act most of his scenes. But you know who I think would be a great Johnny Blaze? You guys may think I'm crazy but Lucas Till.

@SonOfAGif - Lucas Till is excellent casting, in my opinion.

@SonOfAGif - I’ve never heard of Gosling being egotistical? He always seems down to earth and his dry humour in interviews are hilarious.

This clip of him explaining how his working class family had to make money growing up to Harrison Ford is hilarious.

@SonOfAGif - haha how is Gosling egotistical? he seems pretty down to earth in most interviews

@Dredd97 - I remember reading that he was difficult to work with during filming for a few of his films prior to La La Land and he was reportedly fired from The Lovely bones because he clashed with the director.

@SonOfAGif - he was fired from The Lovely Bones because after he was cast as the dad he thought the character should have a dad bod, gained a bunch of weight, and Peter Jackson fired him because he didn't think the dad should be fat, it was pretty much just a miscommunication and a practicality issue (they'd have had to delay filming for him to get back in shape which would've been too expensive)

@AC1 - Ah I see. From some of the articles I read it pertained to him arguing over creative differences. Although I guess the body style of a character does fall under creative differences. But I did read an interview where he stated he fights tooth and nail for a character he portrays. Which in essence can be problematic for an MCU character. He may or may not conform to what Kevin wants for the character and that's exactly why they fired Edward Norton.

@SonOfAGif

He clashed with the director for getting fat for the role. And honestly he was a better choice for the movie than Mark Wahlberg. Any capeshit movie would be lucky to have Gosling.

@SonOfAGif - Yeah I feel like if he signs up for something it's because he's got a specific idea of what that role is when he reads a script, but then if the higher ups want something else that can be problematic. But I figure at this stage in his career he probably discusses all that before he signs up for anything.

It would be kind of poetic. Gosling is dating Eva Mendes, who starred in the Ghost Rider movie next to Nick Cage. Maybe Gosling is jealous of Cage. Just kidding. But I find it funny.

Ghost Rider doesn't need a big star... let the character MAKE a big star.
