Channing Tatum Talks More About G.I. JOE RETALIATION

Channing Tatum is busy doing press work for Haywire, and not so surprising people are asking him about his other movie G.I. Joe Retaliation. After the let down of the other movie Tatum stated in a previous interview he wished they would have just rebooted it completely. In his interview with Crave he was not as gloom on it and is happy to be sharing the work loads with stars such as The Rock and Bruce Willis saying, "I’m very, very happy with the arrangement for sure." He also said that unlike in Haywire don't expect him to get beat up by a girl, "Oh no, there was a French martial artist. I don’t know, I’ve never really seen her fight. I wasn’t really in any of the scenes that she was in so I don’t really know what her capabilities are. She’s insanely beautiful in her movements, just elegant like I don’t even know. I wish I would’ve stayed to get to watch her fight though, do her scenes. She’s a very good athlete for sure."

Jon Chu is directing the film which excited Tatum who likes Chu's directing style saying, "I love Jon. Jon has his finger on the pulse of, I don’t want to say pop, but of the youth. I think he brings a youthfulness and an edgy hipness to it that I think the first one didn’t have." Edgier doesn't mean darker though, "Yeah, I don't know if it got darker. I just think it got edgier and more current and hip and it didn’t go so far into the CGI technical world. It really got more, I think Jon uses the words “boots on the ground” to describe it. More hand to hand stuff and just normal guns and normal soldiering." Said Tatum.

The big question on everyone's mind has been will any of the original Joe's from the first movie make an appearance. There have many denials from Rachel Nichols and Marlon Wayans. But Tatum didn't confirm nor deny that we will see any of them in the film and shrugged off the question by saying, "You’re going to have to watch the movie on that one, sorry."

G.I. Joe Retaliation stars Channing Tatum, D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray Stevenson, and will be released on June 29, 2012.

Well almost. I saw the trailer on this movie and it looked good. The only thing thou is that they show like 4 seconds of Duke and then it looks like the rest revolves around Roadblock, Snake Eyes and I'm guessing Lady Jane.

He doesn't seem so confident about GI Joe 2, remember what he said that the movie could've been clearer or better if they rebooted it instead continuing the mess of the first one. He's statements are diplomatic!

Duke dies during the first few scenes of the movie. that's why he wishes they would had rebooted the whole thing.

Channing Tatum and Jon Chu have the very special ability to make me nerd rage about a series I never really cared about.

@Dawnelldo That wasn't Duke whose dogtags were taken off by Flint, the guy didn't have a beard like Duke has.

Dawnelldo- Thats not Duke they take the Dogtags off i'm afraid, you pause it at the right moment you'll see, different face, different costume/gear... and no beard! The costume/gear looks to be Beachhead if anyone (front chest pouches, on a one piece, no zip... Duke's gear has a zip up the front and side panels from an earlier desert shot!)

And they just wouldn't kill him! They didn't kill him in the 80's animated movie (not after the 80's animated movie death Optimus Prime fan uproar), and they wont do it now!

The whole movie is gonna be a rescue mission at the last minute!

Hey man, you might be forgetting something..... yeah, that's right, THE ROCK AND BRUCE WILLIS are also starring!!!

Dawnelldo- Just because he's not in the casting list doesn't mean they wont stick in an easter egg character that fans might point out! I work closely at times with with both Hasbro and IDW, and i'm pretty sure i'd have heard inhouse if they were planning on killing him off (IDW are doing the prequel books too remember).

And its CLEARLY not Duke in the trailer! The guy on the floor even has sideburns, whereas Duke doesn't...

See the 2 shots here...

More than likely Duke will slip into a Coma anyway!!

spidermanfan2099 - 1/17/2012, 6:55 PM
Dawnelldo- How did you not get that an 'unnamed' soldier (Beachhead) might be an easter egg (if they are killing of most of the Joes, i'm sure he'd be one of them)!? Why WOULD they post him up in the cast list? He might not speak or do anything of substance to merit being on the cast list (apart from dying), he'll just be a visual for fans to spot!

You DO know what an easter egg is don't you?

And just because the prequel books explores Snake Eyes and Roadblock, how does that justify anything? I was merely saying that I might have heard at IDW if they were killing off Duke in the movie!

Did that photo not convince you at all!

And why would Duke slipping into a Coma be silly! It would be a great homage to the animated movie where he was supposed to die, then at the last minute they changed the dialogue to say that he was just in a coma!! Well, actually, Duke has slipped into a coma twice including the comics run. So its even funnier!

They ARE killing Joes in this movie, would it be pointless then to put any Joe's in the movie if they are gonna be killed (of all those soldiers that die early on, we're gonna see that some of them are characters we'll recognise in some way from the franchise)! Its a perfect Easter Egg opportunity, they dont have to name him as Beachhead at any point, just let the fans think he is (I do)! And that photo comparison, hair colour or not... the outfit doesn't match at ALL!

We're just going to have to agree to disagree... until the film comes out!

An easy way to make any film better is to cut Channing Tatum out of it. He's gonna put a shitstain on this movie somehow.

@Dawn, it's not Duke, you can tell by his eyebrows and bone structure. The guy who's dead, actually looks more like the actor who is playing Flint (who takes the dog tags from the dead body) than he does Tatum. The dead guy isn't pure caucasian.

And where are you guys getting Beachhead from in this trailer... ?
Vital

And how is Storm Shadow alive? He got stabbed in the chest, then fell into freezing ice water which would have killed him within minutes if he wasn't already dead from the stab wound to the chest. Makes NO sense, but he was a cool character from the last film, so I see why they brought him back.

Vital- Beachhead is coming purely from my imagination as a fan, from looking at the gear layout and the difference from the rest of the Joes in the back of the plane (the dead soldier is the only one with the long pouch layout across his chest like Beachhead has), I just placed the dead Joe on the floor as maybe visually looking more like Beachhead than any other Joe seen (obviously without his mask though). I know he's not credited, and its probably just an unknown soldier, but my mind was going 'Look, beachhead's front pack layout!' Thats all it is, me hoping it is some sort of nod to the character as he's not been mentioned yet in these movies. Dawnelldo seems to think that i'm officially declaring that it IS Beachead, that's not the case! The case is, that the dead guy is not DUKE haha! The dead soldier is more than likely this guy...
