Ray Stevenson To Play 'Firefly' In G.I. Joe 2!

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ray Stevenson - who has played Volstagg in this summer's Thor and the title role in 2008's Punisher: War Zone - has scored another summer blockbuster in the form of the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel, reportedly titled Cobra Strikes. Stevenson will play the villain Firefly, joining cast members Channing Tatum, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, and more.

Thor actor Ray Stevenson has been cast as villain Firefly in Paramount’s G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes. The action movie, to be directed by Jon M. Chu, begins shooting in Louisiana at the end of summer and is slated for release in August 2012.
Stevenson will appear opposite Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson in the film, which is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and follows G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, a hit in 2009.
Stevenson’s Firefly is a member of the villainous Cobra Organization and is known as a saboteur, ninja master and explosives expert.

by the sounds of it this movies going to be ninja heavy not necessarily a bad thing but I don't really have any hopes for it

It'll be just like all the other shiny Hollywood schlock. The Cobra Commander/ Baroness sibling thing clearly made more dramatic sense than any military espionage adventure movie they could have done...

... if it's Orci writing, yer guaranteed to have some far fetched side plot that Orci sees as real world parallel.... like his JFK/ Kirk analogy...

...anyway - yah - don't hold high hopes. if the flick tanks like the first one it'll have to be Ray Stevenson/ Channing Tatum/ RZA/ DJ Cotrona (who the hell ever *they* are) toys that saves the bankroll.

Firefly was not a ninja. He was a covert operative who wore a balaclava, just like Beachhead (who was, also, not a ninja).

that guy sucked as the punisher,and the first gi joe movie made over 300 million dollars,and cost less than 175 mil to make,hollywood does not consider that a tank... sure, they don't care if it was good,or if the fans liked it,but it made them $$$.

Yeah I would take the Ninja story arc with a large grain of salt. There's still going to be heavy action, cool vehicles and even cooler weapons. Instead of the main sub-plot being about the Baroness and Duke it will be about the "Ninja's"

Ray Stevenson is awesome, it wasn't his fault the Punisher had the worst production team in the history of film.

Stevenson is great actor so this is not a bad choice.
He would make a great Zartan. Vosloo is just too [frick]ing old for that role.
Luke Goss would have been better Firefly.

this movie can't be as bad as the first especially with the rock and ray stevenson. By the way I liked ray stevenson punisher better than thomas jane punisher...

So where are Cobra Commander, Destro, Zartan? I really hope they intend to re-cast. It'd be better than leaving the characters out completely. I'd say Baroness too, but after what they did to/with the character in Rise of Cobra ...

As I said before... if they don't intend to reboot they could make this movie way cooler as a prequel than a sequel....more possibilities and origin tellings

@Planes, Firefly is a commando who mainly uses firearms, just like Beachhead (a drill instructor). Whereas, Snake Eyes is both a ninja and a commando.
