A New Look At 'Abin Sur' from A Set Piece In Green Lantern Movie

Visiting the Warner Bros. lot, Johnny Whiteshoes of Geek Tyrant described what he saw being, "a big Green Lantern party going on', which was most likely the celebration for the studio recently wrapping up on Martin Campbell's much anticipated Green Lantern film. The photographer there was nice enough to share a photo with Johnny of Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison), which we've seen several times including at last month's San Diego Comic-Con, but not like this.

Starring Ryan Reynolds (Hal Jordan), Blake Lively( Carol Ferris), Peter Sarsgaard (Hector Hammond), Mark Strong (Sinestro), Tim Robbins( Senator Hammond), and Angela Bassett (Dr. Amanda Waller), Green Lantern forces into theaters June 17, 2011.

Great find DCMF!

I'm still not sure about this movie because now I'm beginning to get to know the characters (finished reading "The Sinestro Corps War" a couple of days ago) I'm not sure I like a lot of what I've seen...the look of Kilowog and Hal's costume are just two examples. I wanted the white gloves, dammit! :P

MULTI: Looks nothing like the EW cover you say? Ah, well that has me feeling a hell of a lot more positive about it! Glad to hear there's some black in there rather than an entirely green body suit type thing.

MULT @ Sounds wicked!!

JOSH @ Yeah I too want white gloves lol, but what can you do, still at least Hal's got his mask! ; P

FRESHMAN @ Your names called ROCHI?!

Thats quite an original name dude!

GLFanboy - 8/13/2010, 10:34 AM
@Pietro I really do hate you. Only because I'm insanely jealous! That is great news about the costume! I was on board with the EW version or at least giving it the benefit of the doubt but I know having a more traditional one will make a lot of the purists happy! Did you see Sinestro in his GL costume? I can't wait to see the Guardians! Krona being a fallen Guardian is perfectly in keeping with the mythos. That all just makes me giddy! Hell, just those bits of info there is article worthy.
As for the lab, I know it's Hammonds lab. I was referring to the structure itself. What is it? What does it do? I suppose that'll be one of those wait and see things.
Thanks for the info and all the other great stuff you post!

@JoshW How did you like the Sinestro Corps War?
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/13/2010, 10:37 AM
LEE: Yeah, but I'm not a fan of how the mask looks like it's painted onto his face! I know that the costume isnt technically a costume (like Spider-Man where he actually puts it on if you see what I mean) but I dont see why it still cant look like a costume rather than that "projected" appearence! It's amazing how excited I'm getting about this movie now, lol! :D A few weeks ago, and I wouldnt have give a [frick] about white gloves!!!

@Pietro Filipponi

GeekTyrant is the same people who started trouble on twitter saying "Fox Doesn't Want Ryan Reynolds playing DEADPOOL Because of GREEN LANTRN!?"

but Robert Liefeld reply back to GeekTyrant "You have it reversed @GeekTyrant it's Warners that wants to film back 2 back GL's and disrupt Deadpool. Not FOX!! Get it right!"

@ poni:
p-p-p-p-pleeease show us what you've seen... I am dying to see the costumes, ect.!
And im infinitely jealous of you for seeing all of this a head of time.
How are you getting all this? inside source?
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/13/2010, 10:44 AM
GLFanboy: Fantastic! :) I've only been reading Green Lantern at the moment (as I cant afford to catch up with both titles at the same time) so some of the Green Lantern Corps issues went a little over my head because I didnt know a few of the characters, but I still loved every second of it!

Favourite moments? "Lethal Force Has Been Enabled". (I'm no long time GL fan but even I found that a pretty huge moment!) The Ion/Superman Prime fight. Hal wearing 10 yellow rings. The Hal/Kyle/Sinestro fist fight. And that awesome last page among too many to mention here!

However, as much as I enjoyed the epic event I think I've enjoyed the more Earth based stories so far! I'm still waiting for "Revenge of the Red Lanterns" to arrive and I know that "Blackest Night" follows on soon after, but I'm hoping they pick up on the Hal/Cowgirl/Carol relationship which started to get really interesting after the Star Sapphire arc. :P

@ JoshW Glad you're enjoying it, but at some point you have to read GLC, you'll get a much fuller picture. I'm about to finish Blackest Night(Which has been awesome) and Brightest Day GNs are released in December. Johns and Tomasi are Amazing! Can't wait until you get to read Larfleeze!

GLFanboy - 8/13/2010, 11:01 AM
@JoshW I'm really glad you like it! And yeah "Lethal force has been authorized" was a very big moment.
I think one of my favorite moments was when, to Hal's surprise, the people who had faith enough in Hal to return to and help rebuid Coast City stayed in the face of the oncoming threat including his brother's family. When the all lit green lights in their windows as a show of support I thought it was just a great moment for Hal. It was just this moment of forgiveness for him that I think allowed his character to move forward from the events of the past and gave Coast City a renewed identity.
Anyway, glad you liked it. Guess now you get to get into all the set up stuff for Blackest Night!! Man, am I jealous!
And yeah, you really should read GLC too. They really are pretty much equal in importance, especially from here on out. If you have the $$. I know that sucks. Try Amazon!

@morgeyboy

thats not the GL footage its the fricking fan made trailer done by Jaron Pitts his video is on youtube. MSN UK is so dumb by using that fan made trailer in the interview and say the trailer is 'Courtesy of Warner Bros Pictures and DC'

GLFanboy - 8/13/2010, 11:09 AM
@Wolvie Secret Origins. Definitely. Emerald Dawn is good in the sense that it has a little bit more about Hal's training on Oa and a little more relationship development between him and Tomar-Re and other GLC members. Emerald Dawn 2 touches more on his relationship and training with Sinestro and his subsequent expulsion from the Corps. Secret Origins sort of streamlines the two Emerald Dawns into a tighter story and retcons out some of the unnecessary things that they were playing with in the early 90's such as Hal drinking a lot, etc. You'd probably be just fine though if you only read Secret Origins.

the guy Jaron Pitts who did the fan trailer caught the eye of Avatar executive producer Laeta Kalogridis with his other fan trailer.

Poni: When are we going to get to see the outfit?
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 8/13/2010, 12:09 PM
GLFanboy: Ah, I forgot about that for a second - the part where a pile of people started moving into the city was also a great moment for Hal...I had been wondering how Johns was going to repopulate the city and that was an excellent way of doing it.

When I get to "Blackest Night", for now I'll just but the main event book, Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps (because I've read online that they're the only really essential titles) but as soon as I get past that and catch up with the current "Brightest Day" GL titles, then I'll go back and pick up the GL Corps from the start. I just want to get up to date with the main Hal Jordon stuff and then I'll fill in the gaps as I go along!

I've noticed that there's another GL ongoing which has just come out so I'll need to catch up on that as well, lol! I'm not doing too bad with DC now though...I'm right up to date with Batman, (starting from way back with "Batman and Son") Batman And Robin, Superman (from #700) and Wonder Woman (from #600)!
