Green Lantern release date pushed six months later

For some of you who don't know the original release date was on Dec. 10, 2010 but they pushed it to June 17, 2011 so fans out there be a little more patient.

With no lead officially cast in Martin (Casino Royale) Campbell's take on the DC Comics superhero Green Lantern, Warner Bros. has decided to push the Emerald Knight's big screen debut back six months to June 17, 2011 from its original scheduled date of December 17, 2010. No word whether this will affect the plans to start shooting in Australia in September or whether the move is to give Campbell more time for post-production and special FX.

@Grif: I'm afraid your probably right. I will definitely go see this, as GL is one of the only DC characters I really like, but 2011 is set to basically be a year of Marvel. Thor and Captain America are due out then and I'm thinkin our DP spinoff, X-Men First Class, or Wolverine 2 will be out that year too. Godd luck Green Lantern!

I'm just glad they have a director attached to it as well as some casting choices. I didn't know about the Dec release date anyway so another 6 months won't bother me.

Please for all GL fan everywhere who love the character do NOT do the movie we GL fan just want the animated movie that it don't do to GL what Marvel did to spiderman and the X-men

I'm a GL fan and I would like to see a movie. At least try to do it. If it doesn't work, I will wipe it from my memory, but if it does work, then we got us some kick ass stuff. I think with CGI what it is, a GL film isn't impossible to make believable. As a GL fan, have some faith. The first two Spider-man movies were good, and the X-men wasn't that bad. Just remember, that Fox isn't making GL, and Sony isn't pressuring Raimi to douche it up with too many bad guys.

@Rorschach01: Wow, that'll be fun. I see many a fan purchasing tickets for both to see back to back on opening weekend, I know I will.

If this film is done right, it would be better than Thor and Captain America. Come on!!! Its like super heroes and star wars thrown into one. How would Cap or Thor be better than that?

DC wants to drop one of their flagship characters, dead into the middle of the summer blockbuster movie season, agains their greatest rival competitors film?!
If ANYTHING, this raises my expectancy level of the film 100 fold!! It indicates confidence, and quite honestly, that they believe that they have a chance of beating any/all competition! I hope that they have another announcement coming soon about the increase in the budget, just to prove my point.
I say: BRING IT DC!!! And make us cheer!

The next anouncement will be that they'll be pushing Thor a couple weeks (casting reasons of course). I don't think Marvel would go toe to toe with the big dog willingly. Unless they have cast a better actor than what WB will cast. I don't like either of the last choices we were shown on both characters. But if Pine gets GL especially after the success of Star Trek, Thor is doomed.

This could be a good thing.

But I don't see them being released on the same day. One of them will change. And since no Marketing campaign is set yet, Neither one of them should have a problem.

What's going to help Thor is it's connection to the other Marvel movies.

Green Lantern is a big risk. I hope its done correctly!

I dont think the date its a good idea, because it might cause superheroe saturation among non comic geeks. To me its a good date, Ill go watch both Green Lantern and Thor, but in the eyes of the people that dont read comic books it will loke like "Mall Cop" vs "Observe and Report" all over again.

As long as the movie is successful then I'm good to go, however I'm starting to worry that there is no lead character yet, I hope a good actor will accept the role.

Havnt been to a double feature since Empire and Jedi all those years ago. Yeah i dont think Thor will stand up to Lantern.. i mean it all depends on cast and how the trailers look and all that, but as far as character popularity goes, id say GL has it
TimeLordLantern
TimeLordLantern - 5/7/2009, 5:43 PM
it depends on how far into a story line they go. OR what story they're even doing! THAT is the main problem with GL.
spideysweb
spideysweb - 5/7/2009, 5:53 PM
LOL..too funny Shaman. I agree Rorsch...I am a Marvel fan over DC but I must admit I think GL will take it all the way. Man they can really make this into a wicked movie. You brought back memories. Remember when they re-released SW 4,5 and 6 in the theatres. I saw all three. An event I will remember.

The perfect Green Lantern will be Sam Witwer from Smallville. I know you must be thinking that I am crazy but just look at him. He has the face and build for the role. He is in about his late 20s or early 30s which makes him even more perfect for the part. He has acting experience so its not like another Brandon Routh incident will reoccur. If not him then I guess Chris Pine is the best rumored choice, but he is not a better one than Sam Witwer. If Pine was given the role he would be paid a ridiculous amount of money and everyone will view him as Captain Kirk, not Green Lantern. Pine also looks nothing like the Green Lantern…
I have many more reasons why he should play the Green Lantern. I am so confident in this that I have even written a petition. Here’s the link, read it and sign before you leave, I’m sure you will agree with me:

Im all for Witwer actually! Not only is he the best actor in Smallville by a mile, he was great as Crashdown in Battlestar too. Good call, has the look as well.

spideysweb i saw em too..and at the time i loved all the little changes, like Greedo shooting first and Jabba talking to Han..but now i think they may have been a mistake. The movies are what they are. You cant go back and improve older movies just because the effects exist to do it. Whenever i watch the trilogy these days i watch the originals

Well ive been thinking!!! : D ... i do that sometimes lol!!

I really 'think' we need UNKNOWNS for GL, THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!

The more names that come outta the bag the more i think this is the best way to go! After all we don't want oh look theres ANGEL playing GL, oh look theres DOOMSDAY playing THOR! These characters are very delicate and should be handled with real care or there gonna be laughed at and with BOMB!!!

This is why i think these characters need UNKNOWNS to play them! Look at Chris Reeves, Hugh Jackman, etc etc. UNKNOWNS people, UNKNOWNS!!! ; )

I'm actually undecided on Sam Witwer or Chris Pine... Hmmm...

I say Chris Pine for Hal and Sam Witwer for Sinestro!!! You KNOW it would be awesome to see both of them go toe to toe in space!!!

TucsonRican

I think Sinestro should be a little older. Would make the relationship they initially had(teacher/pupil), make sense. Too bad David Niven is dead....

But this movie will kind of suck if they jump the gun and make him the villain. Like Batman, it made sense to not have the Joker in the origin story. I love the GL character, and I get the drama of having a close friend become a nemesis.

Burton's Batman made it work because the movie wasn't about Batman's origin's. He already is Batman when the film begins...
