Green Lantern Spoilers From Rob Liefield!

What does Rob Liefield, the man behind Deadpool, Cable, and some of the most lambasted artwork in comic history have to do with the big screen Green Lantern movie? Well, apparently he is very close to the production because he is good friends with the FX supervisors.

When Nukethefridge caught up with him over the weekend at the Frank And Son Collectible Show, Liefield revealed that...

"He has seen most of the storyboards for the Green Lantern film and he claims that it looks fantastic. He said that if they could translate what is on the storyboards to film, the movie would be amazing. Over one-third of the movie is set on OA, the home world of the Green Lanterns. The film will have numerous Green Lanterns, including fan favorite Kilowag and Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) mentor turned archenemy, Sinestro."

If this turns out to be accurate, how cool is it that the movie will be set predominantly in space?! I was worried that they may try to ground the very sci-fi orientated GL comics mostly on Earth. It also means that we will indeed be seeing everyone's favorite Poozer, Kilowog:)

Gotta luv KILOWOG!! ; D

Damn fine news, but i really have no idea why ROB knows anything about GL, he's not involved in the project??

Still more SPACE the better, though i hope the first 3rd of the movie is him getting used to his powers on Earth, and not turn into the cartoon an have him wisked off in space in the 1st 5 minutes lol.

BRAINIAC is GAY!! ; D

DOOMSDAY!!!
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 9/24/2009, 8:38 PM
Doomsday sucks as a villain. Sorry, but he does. The only good thing about him is that he's cool looking, and strong. That's it. No depth, no threat beyond a physical one. Brainiac can challenge his enemies mentally, as he is one of, if not the most, intelligent beings in the DC universe. Not only that, he is more than a physical match for Supes.

But back to Green Lantern, I'm incredibly glad that there will be a lot of space involved. Green Lantern should be an epic, galaxy-spanning adventure, and it's looking like that will be the case with the movie!

Sounds perfect!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 9/24/2009, 8:49 PM
Yeah i agree about Doomsday. I wouldn't say he is lame, but he is definitely only known for killing Supes...thats it! There is a reason he has only ever featured in one or two comic arcs. Brainiac is a classic villain that poses a psychological and physical threat on every level.

Anyway, how cool would it be if Brandon Routh turned up in GL!
superdog
superdog - 9/24/2009, 8:49 PM
Tyler@ agreed. Plus If they go with the kryptonian braniac you get all the baggage that comes along with that.

Green lantern will be the darkhorse of summer 2011!! Mark my words!!

Ror: It would be very cool indeed if Routh made a cameo! I really hope they keep that part in!

I really am looking forward to GL. So far WB/DC really seem to have a good thing going here they seem to understand what needs to be done with GL.

Stephen McHattie for Abin Sur

I hope this news is true as that would mean one whole act may be Hal's training. I figure the second act with the third being the confrontation on Earth. Just a guess. Oh please don't let Liefield be a contributor. I cring at the thought of his DC work "Invasion".

Man Great news! sounds almost to good to be true.

LEEE777 Duncan as Kilowog, We're on the same page buddy, as long as he study's the character to capture that Kilowog attitude.

Im with Jason Isaacs as Sinestro, HUGO is Very convincing but I think Isaacs has the Sinestro demeanor.

He wont be in it it would be to soon in the story, but Michael Jai White as John Stewart! Had to say it.

LEEE777- I Liked how the animated movie took it to space in the beginning, to me it made allot of sense. Abin Sur dies, one of the most decorated lanterns, of course the corps would come looking for his body. Not to mention his ring or the new holder of the ring. On top of that, a human holding a ring was un-heard of, so it had to be questioned.

About Doomsday in Superman, whenever the hell we get the next one.

I have three issues about when and why not to bring Doomsday into the fold for a while:
1) doomsday is a weak villain as far as character is concerned,
2)They shouldn't START a new Superman franchise with his death, there's no investment in the character yet, no heart strings to pull watching him die.
3) Superman's death was an okay story on its own, but its aftermath is what made the story truly comic legend. What I mean is if he dies in his own film you only see how the death effects his mom and Lois and Jimmy, but if you save his death for say JLA3 you see it telescope across the whole film DCU. I’ve been saying this for a while. This can bring in the Reign of the Superman and destruction of Coast City at the Climax of JLA3. Follow that in the same summer with GL3 or GL4 and you set up the fall of Hal Jordan and destruction of the Green Lantern Corps... Do all those in one summer say 2020 or so and you have one hell of an attraction.

As for CGI characters, I really hope they follow Guillermo del Toro's lead and use practical makeup effects for a lot of the Corps including Kilowog. CGI is good, but you look at it and know its CGI, a really well done suit is more real at times. I know you may say, "Yeah, but it can look corny as hell too, if done wrong." But then again bad CGI can take you out of a movie just as much.

Why ten years? Man you can knock that out in 5-6!

This is hardly new information, seeing as how the first draft of the script has been leaked online for over a year now.

well figure at best there is a year gap between films, and give them a couple years to get organized and churn out the first, so maybe ten years to JLA3, if they hurry.
NERO
NERO - 9/24/2009, 11:25 PM
Not to mention anyone in JLA will have their own careers to look after and their own superhero franchises, so you have to leave them enough room between flicks to make other films as well.
