My thoughts on many of the common comments made about the trailer

Yes it's another Green Lantern film thread!

Now, im not here to defend the trailer. I am simply here to put across my point of view on many of the common comments made about the trailer.

1:"Blake Livelys performance was wooden"
For starters she had one line in the entire trailer, one fricking line. Yet people seam to find that on line enough to bash her performance already. Now I hate to compare films but I'm going to right now, lets look at Iron Man. Gwenth Paltrow performance was well... Not that fantastic. But because RDJ was so mesmerising most people tend to forget her bad performance.

2:"The CGI suit looks stupid"
I'm no producer or writer or director but I have a theory as to why it's not the classic spandex. They want the audience to realize that the ring has a mind of its own and can do anything the bearer imagine. I also believe that the producers want to make the costume feel more modern (Or maybe Sci-fi-y im not sure). Plus there isn't many Superhero movies nowadays that don't modify the costume in some way.

3:"How can Van Wilder carry this movie by himself?"
Have you seen Buried? One actor for the entire film, it was fantastic. Ryan has shown us that he can play a variety of roles with sucess. In saying that though, it is also hard to let him morph into the role. Everytime he comes onto sceen anyone who dosn't know his name call him "The guy with the awesome abs".

4:"The Thor trailer Kicked GL's butt"
It's hard to compare these two film, because there so different. It's like comparing Star Wars to Clash of the Titans. Sure there both superhero films, but they are opposite ends of the superhero spectrum.

5:"WB doesn't know how to market this film"
The line up of toys and costumes and random merchandise for this film is astronomical! I can almost guarantee that before GL comes out every kid will own some sort of GL mechandise and he will be a house hold name.

6:"How can GL make any money opening amongst the other blockbuster? Like TF:DM, Super 8, Cars 2 etc"
Well from my guess... WB must suspect they have a blockbuster of there own. This will be a major test for GL and maybe, just maybe WB wants to test just how a Superhero films will cope when there are some othe big hitters around. It's my belief that if GL takes off than Flash,WW,AquaM, will surely get there big screen debut. WB don't want to be putting all there hopes into superhero films if they are just going to be overshadowed by other blockbusters.

If there are any other comments that you have about GL that you would like me to share my opinion about, then by all means just put @Ribbonz at the start of your comment and I will be more that happy to discuss them with you. In the mean time what's your thoughts on the current reputation of the GL trailer?

interesting article tho i have a few disagreements,

i dn't kno bout her performance issue maybe ppl think she is wooden in general

bout the cgi suit the reason ppl say it looks stupid is because of the quality of the cgi, not the fact the suit is cgi.

i've never seen any1 say bout him carrying the movie himself as every1 is thinking mark strong n tht r the ppl tht will make the film great

the comparing the trailers is 2 compare the quality of the trailers hw they grab u nothing 2 do with the type of movie

and as for marketing the film they r making a lot of merchandise, but they r nt putting out posters or trailers or anything to sell the actual film, even the merchandise is using an artist version of ryan reynolds as gl instead of the actual him

n i've never seen any1 say bout it not making money against the likes of cars 2 so have nothing 2 say bout tht 1

GL = fail lol... I agree with Loki, although I will say that 'pants off' line in the trailer does make some Parents not want their kids to see the movie due to sexual reference. I know it sounds dumb but some people are crazy like that. P.s you can't guarantee he'll be a household name, there are tons of kids out there that may nit even know what a green lantern is due to poor marketing

It will do well, but well in comparison to Batman Begins. Batman Begins made money, but didn't knock the socks off the box office like the Dark Knight did. But it was such a good movie, it got the people that didn't see it in the theater excited for the Dark Knight. My guess is it will be the same for GL. GL will do well, but GL 2 will take off like crazy.

Or it will get lost in all the other movies coming out this summer....

@RibbonzReal nice article! Here's what I think:

1) You're absolutely right about how we can't judge Blake Lively's performance based on one line in the trailer. She could end up owning the role (personally, I think she's a pretty talented actress, especially in "The Town"). However, I'm surprised that you think that Gwyneth Paltrow gave a "bad performance" in the Iron Man movies. I actually thought she did quite well.

2) I like your theory about why the producers chose to use a CGI suit over regular spandex. My only concern is that the CGI for the suit is not complete yet, because based on the trailer, it did look a little rough.

3) I'm going to stay open-minded about Ryan Reynolds portraying Hal Jordan. The director and the producers chose him for the part because they obviously saw potential in him, so I trust them. But regardless, we'll just have to wait and see the movie itself before we judge.

4) You're right in the sense that it is difficult to compare the Green Lantern trailer to the Thor trailer since they are two completely different types of superheroes. However, in the end, I think it just depends on which trailer appeals to your taste personally and which marketing team figured out the proper formula. I guess we'll have to see both movies to figure out which one ends up overcoming the other.

5) The Green Lantern marketing team will probably put a lot of effort into marketing the film, so while I'm not sure if every kid might own Green Lantern merchandise, kids and WB's target audience in general will definitely become more familiar with the name.

6) The fact that the Green Lantern is coming out with a lot of blockbusters this year not only presents a challenge to Green Lantern itself, but for all of the other movies as well. With all of the films coming out in the coming months, it seems like it will be an "every man for himself" type of competition.

Blake Lively's line sounded wooden because was made assembling at least two pieces of a larger speech, the trailer just isn't enough to understand if her acting in this film is bad or not.

The Dude Abides... And as far as competition goes look at Zack and Miri make a Porno it opened with 6 million for a whole weekend... And yet that was a good movie.. Oh and look at the Green Hornet look at how everyone was bashing Seth Rogen before the movie came out and look it was a success so seriously people if you think you can do a better job make your own frickin movie and quit whining and complaining about the the movie is...
