UPDATE: GREEN LANTERN And The GREEN LANTERN CORPS Confirmed For JUSTICE LEAGUE

During tonight's DC Films special, DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns confirmed not only Green Lantern for the Justice League film, but the entire Green Lantern Corps. Not only are Hal Jordan and John Stewart in play but Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner and Simon Baz as well!

To close out the DC Films special airing on The CW Kevin Smith asked Geoff Johns to reveal a world exclusive, to confirm the seventh member of the Justice League in the DCEU and end the show with a bang. Johns certainly didn't disappoint.  "We've been to these cities, we've been underwater, but there's one place we haven't been to: space.  But now we are. So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps are coming to join the Justice League universe."  Kevin Smith followed with, "That's every kids dream, to see all those Justice League characters together, Green Lantern is a big part."

Green Lantern will be joining Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg in the upcoming Justice League.  However, he won't be coming alone.  Geoff Johns confirmed not just Green Lantern but the entire Green Lantern Corps.  The implication of his statement is that Justice League will have more than just one ring wielder.  Images of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and Simon Baz (sorry Alan Scott fans) were displayed on screen, with Jordan and Stewart definitely being highlighted.  This resonates with previous rumors that the Green Lantern Corps movie would focus on both Jordan and Stewart. However, perhaps the other three Lanterns cameo or receive some sort of mention?  Prior to the standalone GL film,  when the Justice League forms on screen, will they have not one but five Green Lanterns?

Justice League Part One is confirmed for release in 2017. Part Two will follow in 2019.  A Green Lantern Corps film has also been confirmed for release in 2020.  However, the intergalactic guardians of space are now officially confirmed to make their DCEU debut a full 3 years before their standalone film.

I didn't follow Lantern but can all of those guys exist at the same time? I thought that the same ring passed on to them.

@0megaDaGr0dd

Exactly! In no way does it imply that Green Lantern will be in the first JL, or second one for that matter. Just the world.

@0megaDaGr0dd @BatmanHeisenberg The question from Smith was to confirm the last, seventh member of the Justice League film.

I'm not sure Geoff Johns' words mean that Hal and John will show up in Justice League. He's mostly likely referring to their debut in the Green Lantern Corps movie, once the DC EU's Earth has been fully developed.

So I'm betting the Green Lantern Corps remains its own separate entity for the time being.

Also, from the Cyborg and Aquaman concept art, it looks like they fight some sort of advanced militarized enemy.

Depending on who they bring to direct GL, this movie could be something special.

He very clearly said that the Corps is coming to the "'Justice League' Universe", meaning they will exist alongside them like the Suicide Squad does.

I hope that all human Green Lanterns or beyond at max two of any Green Lanterns aren't going to be in Justice League. Having too many characters with the exact same power becomes a kind of boring. It would be like having multiple Iron Mans on the Avengers or trying to have Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man 2099, etc... all in the same Avengers movie. It is cool to see the characters but seeing everyone have the same powers you begin to lose interest.

Honestly, I honestly don't mind Green Lantern not being in the first Justice League. Justice League Part 1 can be set primarily on Earth, and as some rumors suggest, Green Lantern show up at the very end.

It would be a fantastic way to introduce the space aspect of the universe. Because until Justice League, Man of Steel will be the only DCEU movie including any sequences from space.

.............Maybe they aren't going to make a choice! Maybe they're treating the Green Lanterns as 1 entity rather than an individual. Maybe Green Lantern Corps 1 will introduce them, and the sequel will dive into Blackest Night.

Ant-Man and The Wasp were HUGELY important founding members of The Avengers, and they won't be included until Infinity War. So Green Lantern not showing up until later is fine.
