Five things I want to see in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

As the title says, five things I would like to see in Marvel's most ambitious, riskiest project yet.

Editorial Opinion

Some would start to think "This is going to be Marvel's Green Lantern" and I think a lot of people would believe that due to their amount of usage of humor. While, I could see that as a valid point. Not really being a James Gunn guy, I did like his work when he wrote Dawn of the Dead (2004). So, I have some faith between that and it's Marvel. But, since we are introduced to the more cosmic side than ever before. Here are five things I would like to see in no particular order.

5: Death

Thanos is said to have an actual role, a speaking role at that in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. But, I believe our first introduction to him in the film should be him talking to, Mistress Death. She is Thanos' sole reason for going after the Infinity Stones and the Gauntlet. I think to explain her appearance and make it less "cartoony" is if she is just something he sees because he has caused so many deaths that death has just became an entity and he falls for her. It would not only make Thanos even that more interesting but, you also bring in an important part of Thanos' character. Plus, Guardians of the Galaxy is already out there as it is so, why not?

4: Mid-Credit scene

I know, I know. A mid-credit scene is inevitable but, it's what the mid-credit scene contains. Here is what I want it to contain. It would be the birth/rebirth of Adam Warlock. He realizes that Thanos is about to destroy the universe and he must gather an army to stop him. His final line would be "Thanos must be stopped" but, instead of it being a random mid-credit scene. It should be mentioned earlier in the movie about, Adam Warlock. It would just make sense. It's again, also one of those things that you need if you should include Thanos.

3: A well developed villain (that isn't Loki)

As much of a Marvel fanboy I am and I will still go out there and say that, Marvel Studios has yet to make a "bad film" and that the closest to bad they've had is just a good movie. That being said, I want a well developed villain that isn't Obadiah Stane and Loki. Red Skull was a small disappointment, Abomination... actually, I take back Abomination. He was fairly developed but, Aldrich Killain, Whiplash and Malekith along with Redskull? This part of my MCU forever wishlist, for there to be well developed characters. Ronan should be just that because it's said that the movie version is being sought after by Drax for killing his family and what not plus, I think they're mixing the 616 and Ultimate versions into one complete Ronan the Accuser. Thanos being said to have a role, I feel there is no excuse for Ronan to not be a properly developed villain.

2: Adult Humor

Meaning darker, more adult friendly humor than what casual moviegoing families are used to from Marvel Studios. These guys are said to pretty much, not giving a f*ck so, obviously they should show it. The movies are also getting progressively darker so, an add of more adult friendly humor should help out in the humor department plus, after a while the kid friendly humor just gets a little old. Not saying less funny, just makes us wanting something a little bit more darker and naughtier is all.

1: Star Lord emotional moment

This was mentioned in a comment a Guardains of the Galaxy article or two back by, I think it was, Ezio. Star Lord using (what is presumed to be the time stone/gem) to go back in time and witness his mother's death. Personally, I've been hooked on the idea since. In a movie full of action, humor and aliens that want to kill us all, one of the heroes should have a real touching moment and I think giving Star Lord that moment would be very important and make it feel very real in an otherwise very other worldly movie. For me, that would be perfect.

Well, that's about it guys. What do you think? Comment below.

You think these movies are getting darker? I've noticed them to rely on more humor and lighter tones than anything coming out of Phase 1. Thor the Dark World had a good balance, but I do hope they deal with more adult themes in these coming films.

My personal opinion, don't crucify me. I have complete faith in this movie.

@ForeverPowerful: Thor: The Dark World did have a good balance and was darker, Iron Man 3 was generally darker but, still was fairly light. Sequels tend to get darker than the predecessor and The Incredible Hulk was the only "dark" film in Phase One. They've been relying on more humor to balance the dark tone. I don't blame them, I wouldn't want the constant comparisons to, The Dark Knight either cause naturally, people would do that.

Naughtier and darker film?? I don't think so with Disney. In fact I think this film has the potential to be there most kid friendly film. Lots of colorful and cartoony character, perfect for lots of toys.

@BenjiWest: I don't think it'll be their most kid friendly film. Sure, lots of colorful and cartoony characters would be perfect for toys. But, Disney doesn't run Marvel Studios. They only distribute. Marvel Studios decisions is all them last I knew.

@Charlie Obediah was a great villain by comic book standards.

MAC

I'm seeing Ronan as more of a guy who gets psychotic in fights. I'm hoping he and Drax have some big fight and Ronan just goes apeshit and swings the mallet all over the place as Drax pretty much dances around him making slashes at him and Ronan's ducking and swinging at him and the two barely land a hit, it's just a dodgefest.

My thoughts on the death aspect.

I don't think death should be a physical form. I'd prefer it to be more like this:

Thanos is immortal. He knows that. His brother Eros embraces this and Thanos is jealous of his optimism and becomes depressed. So depressed that he wants to kill himself. Then he realises he can't die. So he becomes infatuated with the idea of death. He knows he can't die but he wants to. So, he starts looking for ways to die. Hence why the Other tells him in regards to the Avengers; "To challenge them is to court death." So he's happy to hear that he can finally die. So he goes to the Avengders but wants to feel he's earned his death. He arms himself with the Infinity Gauntlet and then goes to earth to face the team.

@ EdgyOutsider....maybe your right. If Marvel still makes most of the big calls then I could easily see this being a big over the top type of film. Think about it, Marvel is being accused of becoming formulaic and to genre. This film provides them the perfect opportunity to change up the pace. The characters themselves are rather unknown and carry a far less die hard fan base such as Marvels' other properties. So they could really go two ways, perhaps amp the dark nature drama of it. Or more than likely, what I think they will amp up the comedy and PG13 action. As I said perfect characters for that plus they have cast some comedic actors in the form of Pratt, O'Reily, and Cooper.

thank u for the shout out by the way, definitely, next year looks great for movies, i also am a guy who would say marvel studios have not made a bad film yet, iron man 2 imo is their weakest and that is still an alright film imo, anyway the reason i thought was because Laura Haddock who plays star lords mom in the film mentioned working with chris pratt so i think maybe that scene or some variation of that might happen, i disagree with the kid friendly humor ,sure thor had kid friendly humor, but iron man 3 mostly did not, sure their was slapstick humor , but their was some pretty adult stuff as in prostitutes, drug references, bodies exploding, ashes of people left on walls and i think alot of the humor too appealed to everyones sensibilites

@fangz - yes Marvel cannot get lazy and try to rest on the success of Avengers. The films run the risk of becoming stale and way to similar, you can already see this taking foot, as alot of the audience excepts that they're going to get a good not to complex light hearted action paced film. You can see as villains are being downplayed, and some people just want to see what the big "mid/end credits" scene will feature. Allowing some to just glaze over the feature as, it was pretty good. Nothing special or spectacular. Its good for business as they continue to make the money.

I think this year highlights that as, IM3 and TDW, just held serve, sticking to the plan, whereas as MOS tried not to be the same ole Superhero genre flick. It had an otherworldly introduction, not straightforward storyline, cinematically rich scenes, and tried to jam action on top of action on top of action, with difficult choices made and consequences.

Was it that unique? Primary hero losses powers/suit? Doubts himself then overcomes? Villain fake out? Main Villain ended up being very similar to the others, which is a boring villain driven by his envy of Stark.

And as Whiplash says in IM2, "Glad to be back"!

@0mega - very good, and you have great points. I just took slight at a line like IM3 is the definition of unique. Hyperbole at its finest, now perhaps more fittingly IM3 is the definition of a Shane Black film.

@fangz - great points as well. I really wanted to like IM3 alot more. I didn't mind that it had no Avengers as I believe that is a good choice, this is Iron Man's world. It had great call backs to the trilogy itself and helped the trilogy be its own contained series, which is good. I was so disappointed though by that Mandarin, I think they were ultimately trying to be clever and unique. But I think it let down fans of the films not just comics. Kingsley wad a great choice and Mandarin is one of IM's greatest nemesis but we were cheated out on that great dynamic and now RDJ will probably never get that great Iron Man film were he faces.his ultimate threat.

Listen to some of the things Tony says to a kid in IM3. It was definitely NOT sweet and candy coated.

One of the BEST things about Iron Man 1 was Ghost Face rapping in the backround while the stewardesses were stripping. It was little things like that, that made that movie so good. Like Shoot to Thrill in Avengers.
