GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Director James Gunn Reveals "Biggest Regret" About The Marvel Studios Movie

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has revealed one of his biggest regrets about the Marvel Comics adaptation, and it boils down to cutting one of Dave Bautista's lines as Drax the Destroyer...

Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge hit back in 2014 for Marvel Studios, and it put director James Gunn on the map in a big way. However, after admitting that including Thanos in the movie proved to be problematic for him, the filmmaker has now shared his "biggest regret."

During a recent live commentary on Twitter, Gunn explained why he wishes he hadn't cut one of Drax's (Dave Bautista) lines when the team first arrived on Knowhere.

"After Drax said 'Sounds like a place where I would like to visit' he added 'and kill many people there,'" Gunn wrote. "My biggest regret is not keeping this line in the movie."

Perhaps Drax threatening to come to Earth and kill a bunch of people was seen as just a little too dark for a  PG-13 movie? Honestly, though, it probably would have generated a lot of laughs!

In the final version of Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax said the shortened version of the line and Quill agrees with him. Beyond that, not much more is said, but it's easy to see why that member of the team would want to visit a planet like Earth and go to war (he did, of course, finally get the chance in Avengers: Endgame).

I mean, if that is his biggest regret then it sounds like he was pretty satisfied with what did make it into the movie.

I sometimes take things too literally (not as much as Drax, but I miss a "lot" of humor) and I would have wondered why he would have wanted to kill people on Earth, since I thought his grudge was with Thanos, Ronan and anyone related to Thanos (like he thought Gamora was).

Drax didn't strike me as a person who just went around killing people, but he also didn't allow anyone to [frick] with him.

But James "does" have a dark sense of humor, and I would have had to have known that (I had not seen his other films) before watching this movie for me to think that line would have been funny.

It's no different to having Bender constantly talk of killing all humans. Could've gotten away with it easy.
