Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2 - Spoiler discussion

Discussion for those that have seen it! SPOILER heavily so don't come in unless you want to be spoiled. The Drax/Rocket love scene was tastefully done and Gamora being Star-Lord's father was a brave twist.

Editorial Opinion

Movie was released April 24th here in Australia (we generally get this US '1st week of May blockbuster' on this date, as the 25th April is a public holiday here. So just lucky I guess!

So what did you think?

 - The story
 - The direction
 - The characters
 - The sound track!
 - Where does it rate compared to the first Guardians, and in the overall MCU and/or CBM genre?

My random thoughts....

I liked:
 - Ego's character and threat
 - The opening sequence
 - Mantis
 - The explanation of Quill/Yondu relationship
 - Stan Lee's Watcher connection (genius)
 - Adam Warlock! And most of the other cameos. Give me that Howard the Duck movie!
 - Rocket/Yondu relationship.
 - Everything Drax said.

I disliked:
 - Not much! But thought perhaps it didn't flow in some parts? I need to watch it again. Baby Groot was amazing, but didn't really have an arc other than being cute.
- Some of the Nebula/Gamora stuff felt a little forced, but not enough to bother me.
 - Perhaps a bit too CGI for me, but held together for the most part.

Still very fresh for me!

Initial reaction is I think I enjoyed the first one more... but I might change my mind. As far as MCU sequels go, I think it is only behind Winter Soldier.

Saw it tonight my fellow Aussie, I really liked it also. While I still prefer the original (for now, I feel like Vol. 2'll grow on me quite a bit.

My thoughts?
- Loved Yondu and Quill's relationship here. A lot of touching moments with Rooker's Yondu.
- Zoe Saldana was FANTASTIC, I just wanted to see more of her. Gamora and Nebula had great character development, I liked Nebula's arc.
- Stallone was perfect in the small role he had.
- While the soundtrack wasn't as great as Vol 1. (which is superb in my opinion), I still really dug it.
- I was a little disappointed with how small Tommy Flanagan's role was, but it's understandable because they had a lot of characters to juggle.
- Drax is even more hilarious this time around, great character.
- Baby Groot was adorable. The credits sequence with teenage Groot was great.
- Opening credits were dope.
- If anyone got the short end of the stick it might have been Rocket, had some quality moments with Yondu though.
- Kurt Russell's Ego was pretty good.

Really don't have a lot of negatives about this film, it was appropriately quite colourful, that might be my only minor complaint but I'm grasping at straws here. 8/10

@MrMurdock - i felt this film better captured some of the crazy Starlin like visuals from the comics.

Gunn clearly has a different tone to Starlin though with storytelling. Which is good, although I love Starlin's stories, direct adaptation would be difficult

@ossie85 - The tease of Adam Warlock at the end was really well done too. Makes me quite hyped for Vol. 3.

Did an article on who I could see in the pivotal if you want to check it out;

I thought the Stan Lee interacting with The Watcher's was great, but does this mean it puts the 'Stan Lee is Uatu The Watcher' theory to bed?

@MrMurdock - I'm actually taking it as confirmation that he IS Uatu. And that in the MCU the Watcher can disguise themselves to blend in (which makes more sense really).

Warlock casting will be very interesting :) I liked your article, it could be something a big name (like a Brad Pitt) could be attracted too also

@ossie85 - I don't think Stan Lee is a Watcher as he talks a lot in his cameos and doesn't really watch much just goofs around.
He gets drunk and passes out in one cameo.

What is interesting is that the Watchers were in a MCU movie. They are thought to be part of the FF and owned by Fox.

Could this be a sign that Fox has done a deal with Marvel over the FF characters?

Please say its true.

...or Maybe Uatu is owned by Fox and the watcher are as a race are fair game - like the Skrulls.
